We were staying at this resort for a wedding and were not disappointed. The rooms were clean however if you have difficulty with stairs I would recommend you let an employee take your luggage to the room since there aren’t elevators, unless you are on the first floor. We stayed in block 23 which was nice and close to the pool. I read review which cautioned about the animal noises from the “jungle area” however this wasn’t an issue. We did have friends staying in block 29 in which you can hear the night club.
The beach was wonderful with white sand and there seemed to be enough beach chairs even if you weren’t a nearly riser. There was food and liquor 24 hours a day and if the buffets weren’t open, room service is an option. The pool is large and it was nice that the pool bar was separate from the main pool.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Overall it was a great trip and I would defiantly stay at this hotel again.

Beach is the best! - Beautiful; spacious; clean/raked daily; plenty of chairs; umbrellas available if you don't get a hut; vendors do walk around offering spa services, scuba, cigars, etc., but they are polite and don't approach you directly unless you make eye contact or call them over. Everyone reserves chairs for most of the day, but there were always chairs available. The beach huts were all claimed by 8am.

Rooms/beds - very comfortable. Décor is just as pictured. They must have replaced mattresses since earlier reviews because ours were very comfortable. Plenty of hot water and water pressure. We loved our Oceanfront room - right on the beach, but set back enough to give us privacy, too. Our kids stayed one building back. I emailed the resort one week prior to arrival requesting that their three rooms be nearby ours and they were! Thank you to the Front Desk Manager!

Staff - everyone was friendly and accommodating. We arrived at 11am. They gave us one of our four rooms right away so we could change, leave our bags and hit the beach. the other three rooms were ready by 2pm. They let us keep one room until 2pm on our checkout day for $10/hr. Although there are waitresses taking orders at the beach, in the lobby and in the nightclub, they had a lot of area to cover. We preferred to go to the bar ourselves rather than wait for the waitress to get our drinks.

Entertainment - nightly show was typically a musical variety type, with some audience participation some nights. The musicians are talented and work very hard. Lots of organized daytime activities coordinated by the hardworking "Star Friends" - water aerobics, bicycle tour, yoga, salsa lessons, water games, zumba in the ocean, soccer games, dart tournaments, etc. Schedule is posted. My kids took out the kayaks (free) and jet skis ($55/30 min), did a dive course ($190 for lesson and 2 dives).

Clean! The entire resort - guest rooms, public bathrooms, restaurants - are kept very clean by non-stop staff. I was really impressed.

Food - better than we expected for the price. We aren't terribly picky. The buffets offer a reasonable variety. Plenty of fresh fruit, salad items, breads, rice dishes, pastas, potatoes, pizza, burgers. The entre meats and fish are prepared for crowds. We only had to wait for a table once in the beachfront buffet, which does get busy, but not so busy you are waiting in line for food. The larger, nicer buffet was never crowded. The a la carte restaurants have nice choices. Although we were guaranteed only two reservations for our 6 night stay, we were able to get 9pm reservations for our party of eight every other night. The Japanese Steakhouse was fun and good. Our teen and young adult kids especially like the Mexican. I enjoyed a seafood dish at the Italian place. My teenage boys ate around the clock, including room service. They were in heaven. Ice cream served on the beach was appreciated by all of us.

Alcohol - better brands are offered in the lobby and nightclub bars. The drinks were not weak; they were routinely made with the right amount of alcohol. We did overhear some folks ask for double shots and the bartenders accommodated them without hesitation.

Jungle - cool feature to walk through the jungle on the stone path. Lots of animals, but no insect problem. Other reviewers advised bug spray, but that was in the summer months.

By the way - we booked through FunJet, but used Entertainment Plus for private airport transfers. Excellent service and communication at a great price. They were easy to find at the airport and very professional. We left a small bag in the van and they delivered it to our hotel that same afternoon. On our return, they picked us up promptly and delivered us back to the airport exactly two hours prior to departure.

Room Tip: Email the resort one week prior to your stay with any special requests. the Oceanfront rooms are won...

Hotel location and area was more than we expected. Garden, waterfalls on the resort were very nice. Food in the bars and restaurants on high standards.Rooms very clean, cleaning crew was excellent. Once they asked us at 7 pm if we want our room done (even though we left in the morning a card that we did not need it). Entertainment was the only one thing that should be better. Two evenings were good - one with guest they were involved with patrons and one evening with Mexican Show were the best. The other themes (Hollywood, Disney) were done for adults but they should be presented at children show time.
Reception crew in Tucan Resort needs to know the location of the restaurants a'la carte since all of them are around this reception area.
Shops in both resorts are very expensive, 10 minutes walk on sidewalk gets you to the local stores (- turn right when you leave Iberostar Resort), tabaco store or pharmacy.
Prices in Hotel stores are 200% more than in local store: egzample:pack of Marlboro cigarettes in the resort stores are over 102 pesos, local tobaco store (10 min walk) cost 58 pesos - same brand.
Beaches are very clean, sand is white, view for Cozumel island is the best at night.

We stayed at the Iberostar Quetzal from the 18th November to 25th. Transfer and check in to hotel was easy and quick, although quite a bit of paperwork to fill in upon arrival at the hotel.

We had requested adjoining rooms, third floor in blocks 21 or 22, but the hotel was full, and so we got 3rd floor adjoining in block 27. We were a little wary, as we had read about the noise from the animals, but only on the day of departure did we awake to the howler monkeys...it sounded like an alien invasion outside of the room. Block 27 is well located, as it is near the buffet, lobby etc, but still far enough away to be able to sleep. We did slightly hear the disco at night, but the air conditioning helped block out some of the noise.

The rooms are quite small compared to other hotels that we have been to. We were four in the room. We got two double beds and a sofa bed, so sleeping was fine. There was very little shelf space for clothes, but we made do. The room was kept spotless by the maid. The rooms are well appointed with a mini fridge that is stocked daily, ironing board, safe, coffee machine, hair dryer etc. The beds were very comfortable, of the pillow top variety. Maybe we got new beds, as other reviewers complained about the beds. There was plenty of water to drink, towels were changed daily if you wanted that, and other needs such as toilet paper were stocked daily. The shower was always hot enough and water pressure was good.

Food was excellent in all of the restaurants, including the main buffet. There is always plenty to eat, with a nice variety of quality foods. Generally we had lunch by the beach. There was always plenty of fish, pizza, burgers and quality cuts of meats, such as rib-eye steaks. There were also plenty of salad choices. We tried three à la carte restaurants. The Japanese and Steakhouse were both excellent…the Mexican restaurant had great appetizers and desserts, but the main meal was not that great. If you go to the Mexican, don’t order the steak dishes as the meat is quite tough and chewy.

The beach was beautiful, although not comparable to Cuban beaches. We have been to Cuba on a number of occasions and their beaches are hard to beat. There was a big drop to get into the water, and then further out there was sandbank that made the water waist high. There were plenty of fish in the water, especially if you brought a little bread. Unfortunately way too many motorised watersports left the area smelling of burnt fuel. Also due to winds, the water was not crystal clear. Of course, none of this, apart from the motorised sports is the hotel’s fault.

Service was excellent throughout the hotel. From the bar on the beach, to the ice cream parlour and many restaurants and bars, service was always courteous. Again, in comparison to Cuba I found the people friendly, but not as warm as the Cubans. Coffee was good on the resort; the best coffee by far was from the lobby bar. All drinks were well made and tasty, plus upon request they use premium alcohol such as Havana club etc.

Star friends were awesome, especially Carlos. They made sure that everyone had fun and it was outstanding the number of activities every day. Water aerobics in the ocean was packed every day, maybe 150-200 people in the ocean following along…I have never seen that many people participate.

The wildlife and grounds are awesome. We had a monkey on the balcony one day, and peacocks and other wildlife. You can walk through the jungle to get to the beach, but if you prefer you can use the path on the outer part of the resort and bypass the jungle.

As others have stated, getting loungers is not easy, unless you get up earlier in the morning and reserve your spot. Too bad life has come to that everywhere.

If you are a cigar smoker, you will be disappointed. Smoking is discouraged in most areas of the hotel and grounds. Also get ready to be approached by vendors selling counterfeit cigars. I have smoked many Cubans and can tell you that 100% of the cigars I saw being sold are fakes. This is also true in Playa del Carmen and the stores in the Plaza near the hotel. The hotel has a few places that sell cigars…they are all Cuban cigars and expensive. I also question their authenticity; also they are stored in the open, so possibly too humid. Buy at your own risk. The best Mexican cigar I smoked was purchased on 5th Avenue at a place called Morgan’s (I believe). They were home rolled and sold for around 6usd each. Skip the cigar factory, as the seller is aggressive and his cigars are not as good as he would make you believe.

There is a gym at the hotel on the Tucan side. It is quite well equipped and you can get a decent workout. Bring gloves if you plan on lifting, as the bars and dumbbells are a little rusty.

Overall we loved the place. We still prefer Cuba, but that is personal preference. The hotel is great and I will probably look to book an Iberostar in Cuba next time. I would definitely return to this hotel, as we had a great time.

Nice solid 4 star resort. This is not 5 or 6 star but still very nice. Would recommend. Staff was nice, food was typical resort but good. Room was clean and adequate. Shows were fun.
Only problem was long wait for room at check in even though we had been booked for several months. Got a $50.00 off certificate for spa use but we had checked out the night before and they would not honor it even though we were still at the hotel and had used the spa service. Said it was to late..

Room Tip: buildings 21, 22, 23 for beach and pool. 24, 25 for jungle. Views from rooms are garden or jungle. N...

This is an amazing hotel, right on the fantastic beach, with jungle in the middle. There were loads of animals running around and the monkeys were amazing although they did wake you up at day break. The staff we brilliant, very helpful, friendly and attentive we would love to go back. Also a bonus that there is Starbucks 10 mins slow walk away with free wifi.

The hotel property is just beautiful. The flora & fauna magnificent. Beautiful beach & water. Service by all the hotel employees was wonderful. Star Friends are the bomb, made everyday fun. Shows at night were very lively & fun filled, some good talent. Food in all the restaurants visited was very good.

My only gripe with the hotel was the PRICE of optional bottles of red wine. The markup is outrageous, over FIVE times the retail price. I ordered a few bottles of a Rioja - Marques de Caceres Crianza 2009 which came to 52.50 a bottle in US dollars when I checked out. The bottle costs 10.95 retail in US dollars. WOW.
Caveat emptor (buyer beware) which I did not heed because I was caught up in the moment.
So needless say, be cautious with the wine list. Have a manager give you the US dollar price.

Only other complaint was with Olympus Tours for shuttle service. Getting there was no problem, BUT the system for returning was very agitating. They make you contact a rep for the return, not once but twice, only to have the return trip fouled up. (They are looking to sell day tours)
We had to take a cramped taxi to the airport with other guests, they did pay the fee though. When we arrived at the airport a Olympus rep was there only to delay us more for no reason, very annoying. I would suggest using another shuttle service that only does shuttling.

Room Tip: We had a room facing the forest (jungle) which was great with all the flora & fauna to see &...

Dear guest,

Thank you so much for your nice comments. It has been a pleasure to host you at Iberostar Tucan & Quetzal.

Concerning the price of the wines, our staff needs to inform our guests of the prices prior to obtaining any of our extra services. Please note that the cost of the bottle might be different depending on the country you visit (taxes) and in this particular situation, the delivery of the bottle goes along with a personalized service.

We will notify our Food and Beverage Department about this incident as we would like all our guests to be aware of this extra services and not leaving with a sense of being deceived.
On behalf of our hotel we would like to apologize about that, which caused a wrong impression.

Hoping to see you again in this wonderful hotel, receive our kind regards!
