We were scoping this location out for our destination wedding and it was not a great wedding location but otherwise was really great! Here are the negatives and positives:

Negatives:

- Hotel was older looking and a bit run down - not decorated very nicely but it was okay. Very white everywhere with chipped paint etc. I asked what renovations they are doing in the next couple years but they are only doing some spot painting. This resort needs more upgrading.
- Jacuzzi tub in our room was quite old and not as nice as it looked online.
- Our balcony was non-existent. We were on the 5th floor with a beautiful ocean view (which we paid for). However, if was hard to enjoy it because our balcony was less than 2 feet out from the building. They had put two chairs on which was funny because they didn't event sit flat it was so small. Would have been really nice to be able to sit out like other people with real balconies could.
- There is no gazebo area to have your wedding ceremony in. You have to do it on the crowded public beach if you do it outside. We witnessed multiple weddings while we were there. There were people walking back and forth in the background and laying on the beach right behind the archway. One lady was walking back and forth in a thong bikini watching a ceremony - I would not want that in my wedding video or photos.
- Overall the weddings were not very nice looking - very cheap looking archway and decorations.
- They were doing some renos that were really loud - chipping tile and chainsaws during the day.
- The front desk staff were pretty useless - anytime we asked them a question they didn't know the answer and we had to try to figure it out ourselves.
- Just FYI when you use the resort credits you always have to pay the tax - about 16%.
- DO NOT do the "romantic dinner" booking where you have to pay extra to have a dinner on the beach. The food was cold, bad, service was slow, and we were freezing. It wasn't even worth the tax we paid.
- We took the Tulum Express tour and our guide barely spoke English. We ended up just venturing off and exploring on our own.
- No non-motorized water sports available like kayaking that are usually available at other resorts.
- Our TV had cable (about 50 channels) to start but then part way through it stopped working and we only had 3 channels for the rest of the time.

Positives:

- Incredible service!!! The staff was amazing and the resort was extremely customer centric (minus the front desk). Shout outs to Javier, Victor, Juana, and Juan. They always responded to requests with "it's my pleasure".
- Pool was really nice and not too cold.
- Beach was beautiful! Big with really nice soft sand and warm water that was clear and turquoise.
- There were no vendors on the beach haggling you to buy stuff so it was pretty peaceful.
- Tons of chairs available on both the beach and by the pool - we never had to wake up early to reserve chairs.
- Resort was almost full to completely full when we were there and it was never too busy. They have the perfect balance of staff to restaurants to number of guests.
- Smaller resort with 200+ rooms was great.
- All restaurants were fantastic - great selection and really good food. Momonohana was insanely good! You need to reserve for the grill in advance usually but not for the rest of the restaurant.
- Otherwise reservations were not required at the restaurants which was great!
- Location is just a few steps away from 5th ave and downtown Playa del Carmen - really great spot!
- It is also a few steps away from the ferry that goes back and forth to Cozumel. We didn't go but the ferries were busy all day so it was pretty popular.
- Liquor selection was very good but they didn't have scotch (other than blended whiskey) if you're into that.
- There were families as well so it was a good resort for everyone.
- Entertainment was really good.
- Being able to order pizza, nachos, and fries while your sitting at the pool or on the beach was awesome.
- Room service 24/7 was handy.
- Resort was overall quite clean just sometimes they wouldn't clean our tub or toilet completely.
- Bed in room was pretty comfortable.
- Internet connection was always good.
- Area was extremely beautiful - Mayan Riviera is the nicest area in Mexico we have ever been.

Overall it was a fantastic trip and we would recommend it!

This resort was absolutely fantastic. ALL staff are over the top accommodating! The restaurants and all food were soooo delicious. The Asian restaurant was hands down the best sushi I have ever had!! A special shout out to Antonio at the Asian restaurant…you were wonderful! The italian was also amazing and our waiter Alajandro, (excuse my spelling!) was fabulous! Very humerous :D

The resort itself was gorgeous. The BEST beach I have ever swam in the mayan…not a rock to be seen in the water…just pure sand. Also goes for the beach…so clean! This was the third resort and trip to the mayan for myself.
But I have to say my favourite part of the vacation was the beautiful Nora that was our beach/pool waitress. If you are as big of beach/sun bum as myself, then look for her either at the poolside or beach if you book this resort! She was absolutely fabulous and such a sweetheart with a great sense of humor! Beware of the champagne buckets my friends :)
Thank you very much Nora ;) xxx Amy

My husband & I just returned from a fun-filled week at Playacar Palace along with friends. Our room was spacious, with a king-sized bed, wonderful spa tub & a great view from the balcony of the pool, beach area & Cozumel in the distance. We love the location right next to all the shopping & night-life on 5th Avenue. Great for an evening walk after dinner. A 5-minute walk to the Cozumel ferry is convenient for a fun day trip for shopping, swimming with stingrays and a visit to sister resort - Cozumel Palace. The great staff at Playacar Palace is the key to a great experience there. Cristal and Dionicio were our friendly & attentive servers at the buffet. Juana & Martha made sure we always had something cold to drink & snacks poolside. Ivan has a great sense of humor & kept us entertained at the pool. Jazz provided us with 2 memorable dinners at the Italian restaurant. The Crepes Suzette he prepared tableside were out of this world. Looking forward to more visits at this fabulous resort!

I just visited the playacar palace for a week long vacation and wedding of a friend. My stay was absolutely fantastic.

My initial reaction as I drove through the town to the hotel was nervous as the surrounded area was not what I expected but when I arrived I was relieved. There is a lovely large reception area to check in. The process was quick and easy. The staff all speak excellent english and were very accommodating. The location turned out to be great. A short walk to the main town area with plenty to do.

Our room was a partial ocean view room. It was superb. We had 2 double beds and a jacuzzi. The room is stocked with a full mini-bar as well as a liquor cabinet (all part of inclusive package). The room was spotless and had a large walk in shower. The view of the ocean was amazing. (The only downside was our room was right beside the wedding venue on the beach, so if you wanted an early night that night there would be music but it finished at 11 so not too long)

The beach and pool area are brilliant. I can not say enough about the staff. The waitresses were constantly on hand to get fresh drinks or food when required. They remembered faces and orders after a day or two. The entertainment team kept us going with beach soccer, volleyball etc.

The hotel also is great for weddings. Our friends got married during the week and it was a great night. There were several other weddings on the beach during the week and they all looked very good.

The food was good. The breakfast buffet wasn't 100% to my taste but still very enjoyable. The oriental restaurant was superb & the Teppanyaki must be tried!!

Regarding the credits, we used them for the Dolphin experience, spa treatments and Talum tour. We were never pressured into any timeshare pitches like we expected. Just signed up and off we went. Note: you do have to pay the 16% tax for all these after the credits.

Spa treatments were excellent, very relaxing. The dolphin trip was great, very enjoyable. The talum trip was great but a bit too short (we were an hour late leaving but left at same time) so we were a bit short changed. Definitely bring swimming trunks as you can swim in the sea there.....amazing.

This was my first all-inclusive experience and I will definitely want to try it again. I didn't have a single complaint about my stay at playacar palace at the end. Brilliant!

Room Tip: Rooms on lobby level (200+) can be near the wedding venue so can be loud at night BUT are handy for...

Recently spent a week for a girls getaway and had a blast. Staff was great, especially Dion and his team at the buffet, Angel and Perla in the lobby bar and Juana at the beach. The weather was great and the beach was lovely. Having lunch served to us in our lounge chairs at the beach was a very nice touch. Love the bamboo steamers. Great idea. The entertainment staff were very friendly and not pushy. Cesar very nice to look at. The overall resort is a bit tired looking but very clean. The spa is wonderful. Enjoyed our time there.

My husband and I were celebrating our 14th wedding anniversary. I am 47 and he is 56 so we are adults. we booked the Governors Suite and were very happy, I would HIGHLY recommend spending the few extra $$'s for this suite, as we did see a regular room. The service was impeccable. We had most of our breakfasts delivered as room service, way easier than the morning rush at the buffet, lunches at the buffet or pool side snack bar were fantastic and not as crowded as breakfast. We ate dinner the first night using the buffet, the second night we dined at the Italian Restaurant, the food is freshly prepared, and delicious. the following night we dined at the Asain, Momonohana ... Wow!!!! So yummy we went back the next night which was our Actual anniversary and they sang a silly song to the tune of happy birthday called hoochy coochy all night long, it was hysterical! The next night we did the romantic dinner on the beach using our room credits, that too was wonderful, and then we returned to Momonohana where the staff asked if they could make us a special, off the menu, dinner. that was an easy YES and we are happy we did it, it was amazing! the beach here has to be the nicest beachwear e have ever been to, we have been to moon palace, Mayan palace, Bermuda! Florida, California ... The incline was very minimal, the sand super soft and CLEAN! We were on the senior Frog side of the resort and it was no issue at all, we heard nothing coming from the place. I would definitely come back here again, the pool was beautiful, the pool service was quick and attentive. the shows are silly, but it's entertaining, just don't expect Broadway. Our week here was delightfully relaxing.

We arrived January 19th and are saddened to say we are leaving today. From the beautiful rooms, delicious food to the wonderful staff, it was truly an amazing vacation and we will definitely be coming back in the future! From the time we checked in till we checked out we felt like this was home and were treated like VIP! We were never hassled to upgrade, nor asked to participate in timeshares, and the resort credits were a great bonus to our trip! Not one complaint do we have about this resort.

Thank you Playacar Palace for this wonderful experience!
