“Lovely Resort!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

This was our third stay at Playacar Palace and we plan to return next year. The resort is gorgeous, the employees are very attentive and friendly, the food is amazing, and the experience is great. The resort is on the smaller side, which our family really likes. You are close to shopping, there is a beautiful beach with amazing soft sand, two minutes away there are ruins and a jungle area where we did a family photo shoot. This is one of the best resorts we have been to. I highly recommend Playacar Palace. Enjoy!

Just returned from our trip to the Playacar Palace. Upon arriving we were greeted with juice or a beverage of our choice. Staff was professional and friendly. When we were shown are room it was as advertised with one exception. Our partial ocean view was only seen by leaning out over the railing and twisting to see a glimpse of the ocean over a roof top. The room itself was clean and comfortable. The breakfast and lunch buffet didn't disappoint and there was always something new to try. The Asian restaurant was good as well. The Italian restaurant was top notch! The only thing I didn't care for was we saw food on other tables that wasn't on our menu. When we asked for it they promptly ordered it up and had it made for us. This I didn't understand? The whole experience at the Palace was great. We even took a trip to Cozumel and visited that Hotel and loved it also. We will defiantly keep this in mind to return in the future. I heard stories of the credits being hard to use. We had NO problems using them and used all but 70 of them on excursions."

Room Tip: If wanting an ocean view upgrade to full ocean view. Ours had a peak at it but that's it.

This was our second stay at this resort for a full week. And, because we liked our stay so much the first time, we brought three other couples with us who have never been to Mexico before. I want to say here that all of us had a spectacular visit, and primarily due to Mr. Rubio, the resort manager, and his fantastic managers and staff. All of them, without question, made the visit for all of us truly beyond belief!

In addition to the service, the resort itself has so much to offer! From the fantastic beach, to ample pool areas, great restaurants and bars, rooms with fantastic views, the beautiful Spa, and its close proximity to 5th Avenue, for shopping, restaurants, bars, and so much more.

Beginning with check-in: What a pleasure! Individual check-in desks accommodate arriving guests with staff offering cold hand towels, a welcome drink, and a flower for the ladies. The check-in process is accomplished quickly and professionally, and always with a great attitude by the staff. I especially want to thank Elizabeth, Front Desk Manager, for her assistance, a true professional, with a wonderful customer service approach and great attitude, not just during check-in and check-out, but also during our entire stay at the resort.

The beach and pool: The beach is very wide with powdery white sand. The sand extends far into the water with a very gradual slope down. Surf is just enough for playing in the water, but hardly ever so rough that one cannot go in for a swim. Lounges are spread out along the beach, with beach service for drinks and food; nothing short of exceptional. A special recognition for Gabriel at the beach and pool area for his wonderful service and big smile, no matter how hot or how many drinks on the tray. And, some additional notes about the beach area. It is great for walking, with much to see, particularly to the north where there are many smaller hotels, bars, and restaurants fronting the beach. For those guests interested, there are also several activities on the beach right in front of Playacar Palace such as beach volleyball. Rental jet skis and parasailing ventures are available as well. In the afternoons, guests can frequently see beach weddings being performed by the resort. A beautiful location for a wedding. The pool is large and easily accommodates resorts guests, even while the resort is at full capacity. And the swim-up pool bar has just enough shade in the afternoon, to provide a fun place to sit and watch the wonderful entertainment staff keep their guest busy (of course, for those who want to participate).

The resort: It is well laid out: Other than having a variety of room types (which I won’t describe here), there are five restaurants, two large indoor bar areas, a fantastic Spa, a gym, a Zen garden, and other areas such as a gift shop and areas to book tours and spa appointments. Overall, it has everything that makes a stay at this resort a fantastic experience. Some additional notes on the restaurants: There is a new Steak Restaurant which is excellent. The space occupied by the Oriental Restaurant also includes several Hibachi tables, and the Italian Restaurant changes the menu two times per week (great food at all of them). Also, a special note from my wife: she told me to make sure to mention that the Spa is extremely well run and equipped. It is beautiful with a wonderful ambience. She particularly likes the Hydrotherapy area and the Hot Stone Massages. The staff is fantastic.

The part that makes it all work: Management and the staff. It is very obvious that management and staff take great pride in this resort. Mr. Rubio leads the way. In all my experience in assessing operations in some of the best companies in the United States (for our country’s top quality award), he is among the absolute best! He is visible everywhere, from checking on the various functions of the resort, talking to guests, helping the staff tie down pool umbrellas when the wind is picking up or picking up an empty glass by the pool whenever he sees one. He is world class! Palace Resorts is very lucky to have him!

Another manager who is one of the absolute best is Jazz, the Italian Restaurant Manager. One evening when our friends wanted to try the new Steak Restaurant, we were told that it would take about half an hour to get a table. What did Jazz do, but to set up an additional table by the pool for all eight of us just so we would not have to wait. How impressive and wonderful! And, he and Chef Oscar, Captain Leonel, wait staff Pastor and Pastry Chef Mayra (and everyone else in the kitchen)……WOW! Setting up a special table for all eight of us for a very, very special and private dinner, during a very busy time, for a fantastic dining experience…..so very special and so impressive! There are so many others to thank, including the staff at Breakfast; Porfino, Artemio, Ayanei, Ceteida, Cristal, Israel, and Francisco. Always so cheerful, courteous, and helpful. And, Araceli, cooking all those omelets (hundreds) over a hot stove; what a wonderful cook and so cheerful, and so good at cooking multiple orders at the same time (to absolute perfection)!

There are so many more to thank, but just a few more that have helped make our stay perfect in every way! Abigail in Guest Services, always going above and beyond in helping all of us, no matter what the question or request. And, Jose Dominguez, Carlos Jimenez, Nataly Lisea, and Cynthia Ramonet, who all added immeasurably to the magic of our stay at Playacar Palace!

Again, I can’t thank everyone by name here, but everyone deserves special recognition for the exemplary job that they do! We will be back!

we stayed at Playacar Palace during our visit to palaya del carmen for a wedding. The Hotel was nice. The Hotel location was very close (5 min walk) to the 5th Avenue( the main street and famous one that all activities are around it). I don't recommend to get out of hotel after 8pm. it is very scary since you see military cars and lots of police that searching the taxis. polices were covering their faces with black masks. they were carrying the hug guns. Playacar palace was nice and clean. staffs were very friendly. The food was ok. the hotel had 3 restaurant. Italian and Chinese and a 24 hour buffet. you never get hungry there. The pool bar also serve fast food as well. we stayed 4 nigh and they gave us $750 reward that we could spend in hotel. 150 in spa and the rest in hotel. but you have to pay 16% tax of whatever you spend of that money. I got a massage that cost $180 so I end up to pay 30+ 16% tax which was ok. you also can spend that money in gift shop but you should spend at atleast $100, not sales items and pay tax. And if you get wine in the the italian and Chinese restaurant, the price of the wine would reduce from your $750 and you pay 16% tax when you checking out from the hotel. Use sunscreen 70+ with you since get burn very fast. Spa was nice. I got a hot stone massage, not the best one I got but it was ok. you also able to use your hotel credit for few outdoor activity. We used our hotel credit to go to "swim with Dolphins." It was such a great experience but remember to have someone to take pictures of you since the people there rip you off. One picture cost $37 and for 2 people $90 for one CD full of your pictures. Our room was nice and clean but remember not to open the window in the day time since the humidity is too high and if you do, in a second every thing in your room get wet. Don't get a room in front of the pool since people have wedding and get drunk and music would be very loud and it would bother you. Get a room with only beach view. If you are traveling with kids, there was a play room full of toys for kids so they would be busy there.

Room Tip: Pick beach side room. not pool view.

Overall Resort was nice. Employees were very friendly. Room was kept clean, air worked very good. Only complaint with room was they never left enough towels or hand clothes had to always call for me. Room service was great menu selection nice. My grandson loved the pizza. The pool was kind of small and if you was down by 7ish forget getting a good spot. There was always plenty of chairs for the beach. Beach was clean and nice. If your looking for a party atmosphere this isn't the place pretty much dead at night. Overall it was a nice place in a great location.

Room Tip: Higher floor to see ocean palm trees are pretty tall. We were on the side of Señor Frogs had heard...

Like another Palace Resorts, excellent service, beautiful accomodations, oustanding food.
This was the first time we stayed at Playacar Palace and for sure we will be back. The service was excellent. The staff was always available to help. The restaurant had good food choices.
The beach was beautiful, the ferry to Cozumel was at door steps from the resort. The 5th Avenue (shopping street) was outside the resort, very convenient to buy souveniers and to have night life. The recreation group was very good. My daughter and husband enjoyed the pool at all times with the recreation group. EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT !!! 100%,100%, SATISFIED!!

I am typically not a fan of all-inclusive hotels, but my friend had her wedding here and I have to admit I was positively blown away by the food and service. I am a vegetarian and kind of a health nut (I am a nutritionist by profession) and I was very pleased with the options. There were many for me, like the fresh juices without added sugar and variety of raw and cooked vegetables, beans, legumes. The people at the hotel were extremely friendly and accommodating. Thank you Isreal, Diego, Guadalupe, and Quetzal for always helping me!! The rest of the restaurant staff were equally as amazing, I just don't remember the names. The rooms are beautiful, the beach is beautiful. I would definitely recommend this place to friends:)
