The only good thing about this hotel is its location! Close walk to 5th av (great shopping)
Found it so hard to believe that this is rated the best on trip advisor! The food is not good!! There is no variety or options. Everyday we have been told that no towels are available, we are on the beach before 9am??? Not good enough really. Rooms are nice, service is only just! Although a couple of the staff are good. I would not recommend this place.

we always do all inclusives, this was a destination wedding and it was at this resort, and it was also an opportunity for our 10 year wedding anniversary trip. So where to begin, transfers from the airport to the resort was interesting. this was set up through traffictours company via the wedding party, we had to wait almost 30minutes to even have a vehicle ready to take us. I think this is because playa is about a 45min ride south of the airport. Once they eventually found our name on a list we got on van and got whisked away. we had to stop at 4 other resorts along the way so that took an extra 40 minutes so it was an 90minutes from the time we got on the van to the resort. Upon arrival to the resort we were greeted with a nice tropical fruit drink and a cool towel and that was nice, as well as a wrist band that is your ticket for your vacation (don't lose it). We booked a concierge level room with an ocean view. Our room was ready upon check in and we were shown our room by one of the bell men and showed us the features of the room. Then he left and returned 5 min later with our bags. so far so good. Nice room, great view, premium liquor, and beer and soda in the fridge. We then changed out and headed to the beach. the Beach is great with soft white sand and not very crowded, although this was a Wednesday afternoon. They have an area with reserved padded beach loungers with umbrellas for palace members and concierge level wrist band holders. Upon sitting there was a waiter (Leonardo) who took our first drink order and they were around very often and it was great. Now I have stayed at other all inclusives that so not allow you to tip, but that is a different company and well tips are expected but appreciated and seemed to keep the service going. couple dollars here and there goes a long way, especially when you can also order food out at your lounge chair too. Another great thing is the SPA.. It is one of the best spas we have ever gone too, but one down side is there is a limited amt of resort credits you can use at the spa which is kinda a bummer but any extra money you want to buy something the spa is worth it. that also leads me to the added costs of the vacation. if you are a excursion person it will add up quickly. the resort credits help out but there is a 16% "tax" you have to pay for every dollar of resort credit used. and you have to use credits from everything from upgrading from house wine at the Italian restaurant to dolphin swimming. There are also lots of add ons during excursions that you cannot use resort credits. So just be aware of that. now Food: The Asian restaurant was great they have a hibachi grill that is the only thing that really needs reservations. the Italian restaurant is good as well. The buffet section is also chuck full with lots of goodies for every palate. Now we don't eat out often, and when we do we go to exclusive restaurants and do chef tasting menus so its hard to compare to that but some of the options come close especially at the Italian place. overall still great food. I do recommend doing the Chef's dinner with resort credits. The pool is ok, it is small the swim up bar is nice and the baristas are funny and make great drinks. The ferry to Cozumel is just to left of the resorts beach, and there is a Senor Frogs over there as well. The entertainment team who float around all day doing activities are really great too. I won a t-shirt kicking my sandal across the pool area.. lol. there is beach volley ball, and casino games at the poolside which are fun as well. All in all it was a great experience, I recommend it for people who will be out on the beach and poolside all day, it is walking distance 5 minutes to the shops of playa del Carmen, so that is a plus.
recommendations:
SPA big time
bring extra sunscreen if you think you need 3 bottles bring 5. Cheapest sunscreen anywhere around was 21.00 US a bottle. so that hurt a bit in the wallet.
chefs dinner
beach/ water. was perfect
not a a trip offered at the resort but do the Selvatica zipline and cenote swimming tour. It was the best (you have to book through them)
Watch out-fors:
that 16% tax can add up quick
limited use of resort credits at spa
sometimes there is communication breakdown between you and the resort excursion booking people, but they try to settle it as quick as possible but they can be confusing
there are certain points of the day that the beach servers seem to disappear so that can be frustrating but easily remedied by going to the pool bar.

Overall a great vacation and would recommend the resort for people wanting to visit the area but want to stay away from Cancun.

I stayed here for a wedding and I couldn't have asked for a better location, service, amenities, and anything else you associate with an all-inclusive resort. It is right near the downtown area of Playa del Carmen, has a fantastic beach with as many chairs as anyone would need. The service is second to somewhere that charges more but why spend it? Room service, restaurant service, bar service, front desk service, and customer service was prompt, accurate and always said that it was a pleasure to serve.

The food was fantastic as was every drink at every bar. The pool bar took a while based on the time of day but they also served food from it all day long which was why.

Based on how many nights you stay, you're also given resort credits which can be applied to snorkel tours, swimming with dolphins, an amazing dinner on the beach or incredible spa experience. My girlfriend was treated to the best spa experience she has ever had and she's been to her fair share of spas in the Dallas, TX area. Once she was finished, she was able to invite me back to the water therapy room and we enjoyed heated, stone chase-lounge chairs for as long as we wanted.

If you want to see Cozumel, the ferry dock is next door and you're able to go to the sister resort for free that's included in your stay.

I couldn't have asked for a better experience and would go back.

We went to Playacar Palace to have our wedding ceremony and honeymoon. The resort was immaculate! It was everything we were hoping for. Our room was spotless, view was amazing overlooking the pool and into the ocean. A short walk outside and you're on 5th avenue, which is the hotspot in Playa. We hit the town almost daily.
The food was excellent, especially the Asian restaurant. Some of the best sushi we've ever had! Xoetsel (restaurant manager) was a gracious host for our wedding dinner, and treated us to a 5 course meal with matching wines. The table was decorated appropriately, and we were seated in a romantic booth.
The staff kept us comfortable, entertained, and by the end of our 8 day / 7 night trip, we were just as sad to say good-bye to the staff as we were to have to end our weddingmoon. Specifically, Carmen, Fernando, and Nora at the pool-bar. They were AMAZING!! As we were checking out, I noticed multiple plaques dating back to 2006 awarding the resort for a myriad of things, and after staying there, I definitely understand why.
We will be making a return trip, and as we have done nothing but brag to our friends and family the wonderful time we had.

Excellent service highlights this wonderful resort. Very good food and drinks, we learned of several new drinks this trip, always fun. Isreal was phenomenal service, as was Diego who always greet us by name. Rigoberto and Domingo provided exceptional service in the Italian restaurant. Roman brought drinks from the bar, knowing what we were going to order before we even ordered. I cannot express enough how great everyone was who worked there.

The beach was beautiful, bartenders always attentive, and we had a very relaxing time. very close to 5th Avenue and it easy to stroll into town, or walk on the beach for some exercise when the water aerobics class was not enough.

I was so very relaxed my entire visit! With a wedding, you know the anxiety can be very taxing. Your staff of employees were the best. They were always informative, helpful, and gracious. The beautiful location and amenities were perfect!

Room Tip: You just have to ask. Lavender pillows, your favorite wine/champagne, room service par excellence!
