“Clean and close to beach but couldn't sleep”
Reviewed 24 March 2013

This was hotel was clean and just blocks from the beach. The price was good and it included a breakfast and parking. However, we slept terribly because of the noise. There was music and talking until the early hours of the morning. After the music finally stopped we could hear talking and sometimes yelling from people in the halls. The walls are very thin and you can hear everything. If we would have brought ear plugs, this experience would have been much better.

Room Tip: Bring ear plugs

This hotel was great. Our room was not the most comfortable but super clean and very affordable. AC worked great and it was within walking distance from lots of stuff. The staff was very helpful and courteous and there was easy parking for our rental.

PROS: The rooms are nice and clean, very spacious, just like the bathroom. It's a few minutes from the main street, less than 10 from the seaside and quite close to a large supermarket/shopping center. We found it quiet and good value for money. We also appreciated the abundant breakfast and free wifi throughout all the hotel. there is also a very economic laundy in the hotel.

CONS: the reception is all refurbished, our room could use a new hand of paint. Also a mini fridge in the room would be more useful than the microwave

Dear Gianpippero:

Thank you very much for your kind observations about your stay at the PLAZA PLAYA. Yes, we are consideríng to instal mini fridges in all rooms, as the average lengh of stay in our property is 10-12 nights. The room in which you stay was already repainted and the main lobby will be change as we dicided to create the coffee shop for breakfast next to the Reception area. On your next visit you will notice the changes. Greetins from Playa del Carmen; Heart of the Riviera Maya!!!

I just got Back from spending 9 nights at the Plaza Playa. I want to say this place was wonderful for us. My husband and I were very glad we chose to stay at the Plaza because the location was great, the price was extremely good, & we liked the way the rooms looked. That was our initial thinking anyway. What made us love our stay so much really was how well we were treated once we got there. The guy who runs this place is Sigfridio & his wife. They really set the pace for everyone. The friendliness and positive attitude they have is genuine. You may not find that in a fancy resort. Because the staff and management are like an extended family , the guests are also like extended family. This just makes everyone feel good. The maids were terrific,we had a safe in our room,& there was wheelchair access and an elevator. We opted for a room with a balcony on the outside of the building. We wanted this because we like it. However, the rooms on the inside of the hotel are a bit bigger. For complete quiet get a room up high & close the transit window in your bathroom. There were many unexpected pluses like the laundry service. There is a laundry service which is also a part of the hotel.Laundry is cheap and well done. We met many other traveler's on this trip which made it really fun for us. There is also an Italian deli downstairs ,and a cupcake shop. We did not have a cupcake but it was nice to know it was there. The food was o.k. it was actually the same as you would find at any breakfast in an all inclusive just not that much. We had eggs, fresh fruit, refried beans,3 types of pastry,3 types of cereal, coffee, milk, fresh juice. To be honest had it been any grander I would not have had the room for the amazing food all around the place. The El Fagon is just around the corner. The Nativo even closer with some egg dishes that could be addicting. You cannot find better prices in a better neighborhood. The Mega store is also one block away and has all the little things you might need. Its the Mexican Walmart, but cheaper. If you are a budget traveler or might want a different experience than that of an all inclusive resort you cannot go wrong here. We took the ADO bus line to Tolum,Puerto Muralles,Akumal, and to & from the airport. There is a bus station 4 -5 blocks away. It was so easy we were shocked at how nice it was. While we were there new friends asked us out for a drink,we went down to Coba & saw the Myan ruins fron 250 BC .None of this would have transpired had we simply been afraid to take a chance. This place is exceptioal for the money. Well deserved to be remembered as a home away from home.

Room Tip: Choose second floor on the inside side of the hotel. Close your bathroom window, quiet in the hallwa...

Conveniently located if you are operating out of Playa del Carmen, this hotel is well decorated, clean and would be great value for money but for two significant down sides.....
1) It's very noisy.
Each room has an internal window that connects to the main corridors on each floor, which means the room is flooded with the echoing noise of the traffic (which is non-stop in Playa), sirens and people toing and froing.
We complained and were offered a room on a higher floor (note that rooms have a large outward facing window but some have frosted glass for privacy, which means you cannot see out) but it was just as noisy. In the end we left and went to a quieter hotel.
2) Breakfast arrangements are poor.
The hotel has no in-house food preparation, so you have to go 3 doors down to a small cafe style place to have a rather small selection of pastries, cereal or savory breakfast served on paper plates with plastic cutlery. All a bit odd and not quite the "run of the house breakfast plan" that we booked.

Definately would not stay here again and would not recommend the hotel to anyone.

Stayed as a couple.
Mix of cave diving and relaxation planned.

I had to find a budget hotel for one night in Playa del Carmen and found this one. Friendly staff, comfortable room, just don't expect a pool or any luxury but just comfort blocks away from the Quinta Avenida and the beach.
I recommend it for short stays

It is hard to find rooms in Playa del Carmen, so we felt lucky when we found this, as it has parking lot and it has a nice look...I left some money well hidden, and when we came back from the beach, I noticed that the room was specially cleaned, with even notes from the cleaning staff...I inmediately doubted and checked the money I left...Surprise, there were 40 bucks left (I hide $20 bills) and by coincidence there are two old ladies cleaning the rooms...I told the owners and they did NOTHING, just to confirm that their staff is very professional...I would never come back to this hotel, I have traveled a lot, even in places that don´t look safe, and this is the only time I have been robbed

Room Tip: My money simply dissapeared
