“Beautiful View!!!”
Reviewed 20 February 2014

Very large and clean condo with wonderful views. Noisy after 7:00am and goes until 7:oopm ... as a Hyatt Hotel is being built to the side of this condohotel. Staff was wonderful and our room was cleaned everyday. The location is excellent on the north end of playa. The beach (Momita)is 1 block away and is the best beach in Playa. Lots of restaurants are very walkable so a car is not needed. The Kool Club is directly in front of these condos and the music there can be a bit loud....but we were in the penthouse so the music didn't bother us. Five people can fit in this condo easily if you rent the 2 bedroom condo.....The hotel has a grand enterance with 2 sets of stairs going into it...but for those who don't or can't do stairs there is an elevator to the right of the stairs..took me a few days to find this;)

Room Tip: There is no restaurant at this location but there are plenty of restaurants close by. We took a cab...

We booked this apartment having been wowed by the pictures but were seriously disappointed. The first sign was the fact that despite being promised a local mobile phone and mineral water by BRIC rental, we had none of these things. The receptionist at Aldea Thai was also rude and couldn't answer any of our questions around this. What was worse was that we were then given bright orange wristbands - as if we were at a rock concert rather than paying an expensive rate for a penthouse apartment - because these informed the security guard we were staying at the hotel. We had to wear them at all times. I have never, ever experienced this at any hotel.

Once we got up to the penthouse, we saw a huge construction site in front of the apartment making the loudest din as it worked through the night. We couldn't sit on the beach in the day as construction was going on - and at no point had BRIC rental told us that this had happened.

We called our rep at BRIC, who then promised to find us another apartment (having tried to weasel out of it by saying that we had been told in advance) - all of which faced the construction site. It was a shame as it was a beautiful apartment, but we're really annoyed we weren't told about it, and had such a poor reception.

Stayed in this hotel in January, and really enjoyed it. Had trouble with our first room, as it was on the south side of the hotel - right next door to a huge construction site.
Rooms are nice and spacious. Kitchen has an electric stovetop, microwave, and toaster. No oven.
Location is great, a block from the beach, and two blocks from 5th avenue and shopping/night life.
We also had to wear a wristband to show we stayed in the hotel the whole time we were there.
Overall, I would recommend staying here as long as you can avoid the south side with the construction.
The hotel had a nice pool with a bar. No restaurant.
Private pools on the balcony were a nice touch, although we didn't use it since it was in the shade and not heated

Room Tip: Get a room away from the construction. Luxury suite and master suite were both large spacious rooms.

I recommend this property ONLY if you book through someone BESIDES Playa Moments. The condo was very clean, nice inside and close to 5th avenue. The customer service at the hotel provided by Kelly was awesome. Everyone else acted as if they didn't care and pawned off our questions to someone else.

We booked through Playa Moments and the first part of communication via email was great. When we arrived it was a different story. First of all, they didn't let us know that our deposit would have to in CASH upon check in. They emailed us a contract that did not mention anything about that prior to arrival and then when we got there they brought out a different piece of paper with "terms and conditions" that included the deposit "COULD" be paid in cash, not "HAD TO BE PAID IN CASH." But they kept saying no it has to be cash it has to be cash Because we did not have the cash they took my passport as a deposit aka ransom for the weekend. That is illegal to do and I'm sure they knew it.

We knew that our terms and conditions prior to arrival stated that we would not have cleaning service during our stay, no problem. We are 4 adults and keeping it tidy is easy. What they forgot to mention is that we also would not be allowed to have trash bags or towels. I had to call the playa moments office (which was about 5 blocks from the hotel) to get anything accomplished and Karina and Ingrid were always very rude about it and said towel changes weren't in our agreement -- again we didn't receive this agreement until we arrived there.

Finally, we were given pictures on the website that showed a beautiful view and when we arrived we opened our windows and there was an ugly construction site with loud construction going on. I told them they should put that one the website because the locals started construction every morning at 7am which was very LOUD!

We have been to playa with our group 10+ times and always try to stay somewhere fun and different. We definitely WILL NOT be using Playa Moments in the future to book anything. They are sneaky and will lie to you. I did get my passport back -- thank goodness.

Our most positive experience at the Aldea Thai was with Renee at the La Divina check in desk. She had good recommendations and was always welcoming. Otherwise, in spite of the zen like decor of this hotel/condo and its location (not really on the beach but about a block away) near the shopping and fine restaurants on fifth Avenue, the hotel was anything but peaceful. It was extremely noisy. Above all, avoid the week of the music (??) festival in January. We had loud, deep, monotonous base from noon to 9 pm each night and hoards of people passing to and from the beach. Even after the festival, the cafes downstairs and the two "convenience" stores blare loud booming base from early afternoon into the evening. Finally, groups of people in the hotel halls were loud for much of our last night. The hotel's internet is spotty and inadequate. Not a place to relax!

Location is excellent, right next to Mamita's beach, with everything else on 5th Avenue an easy walk away. Apartment was very comfortable and we spent many hours reading on our private roof deck. The property is relatively new, it’s clean and very well maintained. There were rarely more than a few people around the pool, even during a week that was very busy in Playa. The occasionally-open pool bar seemed to be the only service offered by the property other than the front desk. Nothing interesting happens at Aldea Thai and that seems to be the management’s objective. At check-in, you'll be asked to put on a neon plastic wristband and to keep wearing it day and night for the entire duration of your stay. This gets you access to the apartment you've rented but it's mainly to ensure that no-one else gets in, least of all any guests you'd like to entertain in that great apartment. The official guest policy says non-residents are allowed in from 10am to 7pm only and they have to leave their identification card at the front desk. Tha’ts not so useful if you want to invite friends over for dinner, or even for a sunset drink. It's not so much a luxury resort, more an open prison. Disappointing.

Room Tip: Many apartments have roof top terraces with a plunge pool. Each terrace is exclusive to each apartm...

I would recommend you to stay here. The room was very big, the kitchen great to cook in and the beds very comfortable. Our room was 240 right by the pool and that was wonderful. There is some construction out the balcony for a view but we did not mind it at all. You can see the beach from the balcony also. There is a pool on the balcony too. Stop looking and book here

Room Tip: A room by the pool is best
