I spent 3 nights in Hostel Rio Playa in Nov. 2010. It was recommended to me by other travelers and I'm very glad I chose to stay there! Literally 1.5 blocks from beautiful beach access (see my pics). Lively hostel with lots of travelers. Bar next to the pool is nice and opens at 5pm til midnight. Before 5pm you can BYOB if you want. The pool isn't for swimming, more for lounging and aesthetics. It's maybe 1-2 ft deep and I didn't get in it. I agree with other reviews about the breakfast, it may be worth your while to sleep in and eat at noon! Bunk beds are quality and I cant complain there. Lockers are large and you need to bring your own lock. Towels and sheets are given at check in. There are signs posted about the hours of the AirCon use but we never turned it on since the weather was nice. Wifi worked well in the common areas. Overall a very clean hostel with nice staff and a fun crowd when I was there. Nearby walking distance are all levels of restaurants, from cheap street vendors to high end steaks. Tons of shops, who hassle tourists but not to the extent of Cancun. The beach is awesome and clean. For those with a car, there are a few pay parking lots nearby and charge $150 pesos for 24 hours or $12 pesos per hour....More
