“breakfast on the beach”
Reviewed 19 July 2014 via mobile

had a wonderful meal and service to match. waiters were readily available, willing and able. ate here twice during my visit and it was consistent as the first. a very minor tweak could be the tablecloths(vinyl?) as its length felt awkward pressed up against your legs. i would return!

“Awesome food!!!”
Reviewed 30 June 2014 via mobile

The food is outstanding! Even the nopales, that we hated everywhere else, were great.
The fish tostadas and the coconut shrimp were amazing, the huevos rancheros were also very good.
Honest breakfast for an excelent price.
An excelent choice to spend the day or just grab some breakfast or lunch.
It does not work for dinner though!

“Nice Ambiance-So-So Food”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

We hit this restaurant at about 0900 on A Sunday morning, and there were about three other tables filled. The setting of the restaurant is lovely: plastic tables underneath a shady palapa with a sand floor, just steps from the water. We took a table and waited to be noticed by the waiter, a spike-haired youth with yellow sunglasses asleep in a chair near the kitchen. No matter, it was a lovely morning. Eventually the kid woke up, noticed us and went to get another waiter. We ordered french toast and eggs with a side of hash browns. The ambiance of the shady palapa was really wonderful; I wish the same could be said of the food. The eggs were overcooked and unimaginatively served with a bit of bland refried black beans. The hash browns were truly dreadful: think McDonalds frozen triangles, cooked to within an inch of their crispy little lives, dripping with grease and barely warm. (Is it too much really, to expect real potatoes when you order hash browns?). The french toast was nice, served with a bit of watermelon, but our sleepy waiter kept trying to take it before I was finished. Not even ambiance could save this place from mediocre food and spotty service. If you do go, take plenty of pesos: we paid in dollars and were informed while paying that the conversion rate was 10 pesos to the dollar. Most restaurants are offering 12 pesos to the dollar at this time.

We love the place, the quality of the food, the attention in every detail, the way we are treated by everyone since the entrance till the end of the meal! It's really a tailor made service and the food is absolutely amazing!

“We go back again and again and again!”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

This was our sixth time in Playa and each time we said we were going to try the food at Playa Maya. We always stayed at an all inclusive so for what ever reason we never made it. This May we stayed part of our trip in an AI and part in a condo, so we did finally go. I wish we would have gone every time we were there! After seeing so many reviews of so many restaurants in Playa, we have finally found one that we can absolutely agree on the positive reviews. We had a mango margarita and a regular margarita both were excellent. Complementary chips, salsa and sauce were very good. I had the coconut shrimp and my husband had the fish tacos. Both were the best we have had in any of the restaurants we went to in town. Yes the tables and chairs are plastic. They are on the sand on the beach, what kind of tables do you want? The only thing I would suggest (if you are a bug magnet, like me) bring some off for your legs. Can't wait to go back next May. It will absolutely be more than once on our next trip!
