“Friendliest staff- modern resort 2 years old-very clean”
Reviewed 28 December 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed at the adults only side of the resort for 5 nights.....We did not mind the families that shared the restaurants at night. Other reviews make it seem like kids were everywhere but we did not encounter this. Our favorite bar was the MBar, a martini bar where Armando is the best bar tender and made excellent drinks...not over sweetened at all and perfectly prepared. At The Grill, which is one of the many restaurants to eat at, the food was the best. Eric, the friendly waiter invited us back the second evening for a "special" dinner. The second night was even better! Francisco, our waiter, freshly prepared a spicy shrimp dish for us at our table. The ambiance of this restaurant was great and you have to sit outside. Overall, the resort is one of the cleanest and has a gorgeous modern feel to it....we usually stay at Westin's and this was just as good. Oh yeah, the swim up to your rooms options is very cool. We booked our vacation through Vacations to go and they set us up with Best Day Travel. I would highly recommend Best Day for your shuttles and excursions. We will use them again.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 3rd floor and is was very quiet. We are foodies....so the food is not the greatest...

My wife and I stayed at La Perla for 5 days in December for our honeymoon, it was our first trip together to Mexico. We booked the trip through Costco Travel who goes through a company called Best Day Travel. If you have this option I would highly recommend Best Day, the shuttles to and from the airport in Cancun were on time and waiting for you, we never felt lost or not knowing where to go. My Spanish is ok and my wife can say a few words, but you could definitely get through the whole trip not knowing any. All of the employees at La Perla speak very good English and Spanish is not required to communicate, but it's a lot more fun to try and the staff is great at teaching you new Spanish words and sayings.

Before our trip I chose to upgrade to the "Royal Service" because I didn't want to regret not having it once we were there. If anybody is borderline on this, you should do it. The extra restaurants, heated pool, beach cabanas, and other amenities will make it worth your while. Also having a personal Butler isn't too shabby. Our butler Giselle was friendly, accommodating and always just a phone call away. She booked all of our dinner reservations as we wished and would do something nice for us on a daily basis. One night was a rose pedal path to a rose pedal tub, another was chocolates on our bed, and another was a bottle of champagne waiting for us after dinner. She was very nice and we loved all of her surprises.

We mainly hung out at the Royal Service Pool Bar during our days at La Perla. Our bartenders Emmanuel and Mercedes were awesome, they made us laugh on a daily basis and helped me with my questionable Spanish, oh and did I mention they make delicious margaritas, cocktails, and shots. Alfredo and Jacquline were our very friendly Pool bar servers, if you wanted to lay in a Cabana by the pool or beach they were always there with a fresh drink or whatever you needed, and Neftali was always there with a fresh towel and even sunscreen if you needed it. The main pool is kind of cold and not that enjoyable in December, so the heated pool in Royal Service was awesome and all the staff there is accommodating and friendly.

If you want to spend some time away from the resort there are many options from Best Day travel for some pretty amazing day trips, there is always a representative at the Resort so booking these trips is very easy. We spent the day at Xel-Ha (Shell~ha) 'place where the water is born', it is the worlds largest all natural aquarium where underground rivers meet the ocean. It has amazing snorkeling, cliff jumping, zip lines, dolphin swimming and much more. It was affordable and all inclusive with good food and drinks. You can also visit Mayan ruins in Tulum or underwater caves at Xplor through different tours. The shuttle arrives early and drops you off late, so it's a long day, but well worth it.

If you have the time 5th Avenue in Play Del Carmen is another very fun place to visit. All the locals are very friendly and outgoing and there are tons of shops, restaurants, and beach bars to explore. It's less than a $10 cab drive from the resort and there are many places to easily catch a cab back when you are done. At no time did we feel unsafe or threatened, it was one of our favorite days of our trip.

As far as food goes at the resort everything was very good and perfect sized portions. We did not care too much for any of the buffets, but everything else was great. La Palapa was our Royal Service only restaurant and our favorite spot for breakfast. We also had dinner there our last night which was equally delicious. The staff at La Palapa was always courteous and outgoing, tweaking the menu as you pleased. We ate at Bana one night where we had delicious sushi and Asian entrees, The Grill had tasty steaks, fish, etc and our server Erikk was beyond friendly. I was really pleased with the Rib-eye and my wife loved her salmon. We also ate at Fuego one night which was very good, but fancy with a stricter dress code. For me wearing slacks and buttoned up shirt after sitting in the sun all day and still humid outside was not my idea of a good time, but the food and service was great there. The cafe outside of the main pool had great lunch and snack items such as burritos, nachos, and ceviche, this was one of our favorite easy lunch and afternoon snack spots.

Overall we had an amazing time on our trip and would recommend La Perla to anyone wanting to take a trip to the Riviera Maya region of Mexico, we would definitely go back.

We just returned from a 6 night stay and we are ready to go back! The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, the staff was amazingly friendly and the food is delicious. We loved the swim up bar and cabanas!

We decided to have a last minute spiritual wedding ceremony and Evelyn from the Romance Room was so accommodating.

I would 100% recommend for a relaxing getaway! We will be back!

First off this hotel is beautiful! It is all open air so you can enjoy the beautiful Mexican weather all the time. The staff is what makes this hotel amazing. They are all willing to go out of their way to make sure your vacation is top notch. We never encountered a crabby person or anyone who did not have a smile on their face.

The rooms were immaculate. The shower heads are the waterfall kind which we especially loved. The beds were super comfortable and always well cleaned, to the point of perfection. All the components worked well.

The restaurants were delicious. My fiance loves trying exotic foods so he had a hay day at the different restaurants. I am a little more picky but was always able to find a "safe option" on the menu. Our favorite restaurant by far was the Grill with Vento in a close second place. Be prepared to take a long time at the restaurants. Speedy service was not a priority, which was fine as we just chatted and the drinks came coming but you should plan on about 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours per dinner.

For breakfast eat day we ate at Hadar which had such a wide variety and seem well organized, upscale and clean for a buffet. It also had a bloody mary bar in it and a build your own smoothie station. (side note you can add the vodka from the bloody mary bar to the smoothies :)

The pool is really the star of this resort. We lived at the swim up bar. Beware though the water is really really cold! Alejandro, David and Oscar make it worth it though. These guys became our best friends at the resort and are the reason we will be returning to Paradisus! If you get oscar as your bartender, or "the oscar" and you will be happy.

Vivian with pool activities is amazing! We had a great time with the guacamole class and the water aerobics! Join in you won't regret it!

We loved Paradisus and can't wait to return!

Reviewed 25 December 2013

After having such a wonderful experience at this resort, I'm going to try to be as thorough and descriptive as I can be. Before I begin the review, it should be noted that a few days before my girlfriend and I stayed at La Perla, I upgraded us to Royal Service after reading numerous reviews on this website as well as hearing about it from several family members that have stayed here before.

One thing I will say right now: once you stay at this resort, you will hate all other resorts and feel unsatisfied anywhere else.

When I upgraded us to Royal Service, they emailed me back with a quick form to fill out describing our likes and tastes, in order to get to know us a bit better before we arrived.

- Check-In -

Upon pulling up to the gate at the Paradisus, we noticed right away that security is tighter than at most resorts we've been to. This could be due to the very poor area this resort is located in. The guards needed to check our names on their list before we could even gain access, whereas most resorts just let you right in. Upon being dropped off at the La Perla lobby, we were asked to wait 5 minutes for a golf cart to arrive to take us to the Royal Service lobby for check-in.

Right when we walked in, we felt very welcome and taken care of as we were greeted with two glasses of champagne and extremely comfortable bracelets compared to others we have had in the past. The check-in process was extremely quick and we were told that we had one of the best rooms in the entire place, and they had already taken care of our dinner reservations for the evening. Before I get to that, the lobby of Royal Service has a gourmet snack bar with different snacks everyday and top-shelf liquor, including refrigerated wine and champagne. There is also a wide-variety of espresso flavors to choose from. In the mornings, they have very fresh croissants - try the ones with the almonds and jam inside!

With Royal Service you receive a personal butler, and this was the one and only disappointing part of our trip. In my opinion, this is more a marketing point than anything else. When we arrived for check-in, our butler was not even present and another butler helped us to our room and showed us around. One big point to notice is that the other butlers seemed much nicer and more helpful, and we're around all the time, so maybe we just had a bad one. Our butler was honestly never around. While the other butlers walked around the resort and checked on their guests several times per day, we only saw our butler on the first day and on the last day.

One other thing that was disappointing was that before we arrived I told them it was our anniversary, and then we told several butlers that it was our anniversary when we were there, and they even asked which specific day it was. Unlike many reviewers on this website, there was no jacuzzi with rose petals or anything at all waiting for us when we got back to our room on our anniversary. We deeply want to come back here again, but we will definitely ask for a different butler next time.

- Room -

Once we got to the room, we were shocked as to how picture perfect it really was - and for the record, they did not lie downstairs, we really did get one of the best rooms in the place. Most rooms do not have a ocean-view, but ours did as it was on the second floor. From what I read on this website, rooms ending in 90-99 in Royal Service were ocean-view. Right when you walk in, there is a separate room just for a toilet for privacy. There is a great deal of closet and drawer space, as there is a his and hers closet with plenty of drawers in between them.

The bathroom has a large soaker tub which is amazing by yourself, but pretty crowded for two lightly fit people. They give you a large amount of towels in a wide-variety of sizes and they are actually pretty soft. The dual rainfall showers are very spacious and are extremely comfortable for two people to shower in at one time - in fact, you could fit four people in there easily. Also, the lotions they give you are of extremely high quality.

Before the butler is finished showing you the room, make sure to ask for more hangers right away.

The mini-fridge selection was very close to what I requested in the questionnaire before our arrival, and they replace the stock on a daily basis with the same things. Also, on top of it is a personal espresso machine with a few flavors to choose from. After about 30 minutes, the butler came back with a bottle of vodka and a bottle of tequila having asked our drink preferences.

Keep in mind that the thermostats in the rooms do not go below 70 degrees F. The safe is large and can easily fit a laptop.

Being two people who usually have a hard time finding a comfortable bed, we felt that the beds and pillows here were absolutely amazing and extremely comfortable. We requested foam pillows and that is exactly what we received.

The jacuzzi on the balcony was a great touch especially since we had such an amazing view. Just like the soaker tub, the jacuzzi isn't super comfortable for two people, but you can make it work - of course, run down to the lobby first and grab two glasses of champagne.

- Royal Service Pool -

The pool is located right outside the Royal Service building and it is mildly heated so that it is easy to get into. The swim-up bar is a nice touch which every resort seems to have. Keep in mind that in the Royal Service section, the pool chairs have padding which makes a huge difference after we tried the ones in the regular La Perla section. Also, there are a bunch of cabanas to hang out in if it is raining or if you need a break from the sun.

The pool area does not seem to get busy in the morning, so there is no need to reserve chairs early in the morning like at most resorts. This is a huge relief as this stress if removed from your shoulders and you do not have to wake up early to get chairs. Keep in mind though that if you leave your things on the chairs for more than 30 minutes unattended, they will take your things off the chair to make room for other guests.

The waiters at the pool have a menu for lunch, which is served at your chairs or in the cabanas if you do not want to go to the restaurant or if you just want a snack. There are giant umbrellas at the pool as well as the beach, which can be taken down easily.

Also, no more towel cards! Get as many towels as you want.

- Beach -

The sand on the beach is very soft and clean, but the during high-tide keep in mind that the water will come right up to the beach chairs. There are a good amount of rocks in the water, but if you ask the security guards on the beach, they'll be able to point out some clear spots. The bali beds on the beach are great for taking a nap later in the day and the towels right on the beach are much more convenient than dragging them from the pool.

- Fitness Center -

We only used it one time, but it was very clean with top-quality equipment. It does not get busy so you can work out at any time of the day.

- Internet -

Compared to most resorts in Mexico, the wireless internet is actually pretty good. We even had wifi signals out by the pool and there is no limit on devices per room like other resorts.

- La Palapa -

This is the Royal Service restaurant, located right next to the Royal Service pool, and to be totally honest, just access to this restaurant was worth the extra Royal Service fee. The menu is a la carte, which is so unique for an all-inclusive, but you can also order anything else you can think of and they can probably make it. The had the absolute freshest and tastiest food of any all-inclusive resort we have ever been to. You can taste that everything is freshly prepared, especially delicate choices like guacamole.

We went to the buffet just once during our 9-day stay, and we ran straight back to La Palapa. Not that the buffet wasn't good, but it just wasn't anything close to the taste and quality of La Palapa. The presentation of the food here is similar to an upscale restaurant in the states - even the fruit was cut nicely and presented neatly.

The service was very nice and friendly, and they know their menu well. The portions are just right as you get full from the delicious food, but you do not over eat and stuff yourself as you would at a buffet.

Notable breakfast options: bagels and lox, omelet Mexican style, eggs Benedict, chilaquiles, fresh squeezed orange juice.

Notable lunch options: Caesar salad with grilled chicken, shrimp ceviche, cheeseburger, chips and guac, grilled beef tenderloin, salmon.

- Fuego -

This is their South American, Latin fusion restaurant that we heard amazing things about. While most people really enjoyed this restaurant, we thought it was just okay. The portions are small, but some of the things we tried were delicious.

- Bana -

We absolutely loved this restaurant for dinner and ate here four of the nights - two for hibachi and two for sushi. We have visited most of the top sushi restaurants in the Chicago area, and we are certain that their tuna and salmon sashimi is some of the freshest we have ever had. They have a wide variety of rolls to try and they are all great. When you order sashimi, they also give you a large amount, versus just a single piece or two.

The hibachi table is a pre fixe meal and the show is great. The meal starts with their house edamame, which is an improved variation from traditional edamame. Then there are spring rolls followed by a variety of sushi. Then, it moves on to the entree of chicken, steak, and shrimp with grilled vegetables and fried rice. Finally, it is wrapped up with tempura fried ice cream which is great and delicious.

- Mole -

We ate at this Mexican restaurant on our first night and enjoyed it very much. Make sure to ask for the appetizer sampler instead of just ordering one. This way you get to try a bunch of different delicious appetizers.

- The Market -

Their take on a Brazilian steakhouse, we really enjoyed it, but make sure you go on an empty stomach so you can try a bunch of different meats. They also have a salad bar with a wide-variety of choices and sides.

Overall, we can say without a doubt that this was the best resort we have ever stayed at and we can't wait to go back. Check out all the tips I have here and the others on Trip Advisor in order to make your vacation one that you will never forget.

Traveled from the 9th to 22nd of December with my wife for our 10th anniversary. Will make this review short and outline the + and - .

1- Hotel is fairly new and one the best for comfort and design I stayed in my 20 years of traveling.

2- What makes this hotel above all others in the region is the outstanding services. I mean, all employees working there are always smiling, tip or not, and the look happy. No long faces like others resorts in Riviera Maya.

3- Restaurants are good...you find what you need and for an all inclusive it's way beyond the standard buffet.

4- Royal service is ok...not sure if I would do it again. Butler was nice, royal service lobby and the heated pool was also good.

We stayed in room 1390 witch is a corner unit with ocean view. All rooms in royal service ending with 90 to 99 on second and third floor are ocean view. Really nice view, except on the third floor when it rains you can't use it. I give 5 stars to the double heads shower in the room, now my wife want one at home. Excellent Thierry Mugler products provide by Paradisus. Also mini bar service stock everyday.

5- Now my only down side was the hotel stating it's an adult only resort, It's REALY not the case. By all means me and my wife don't hate children, but I'm deeply allergic to stupid parents. The resorts share some restaurants with La Esmeralda witch is a family oriented resort. They have a Policy of not booking reservation for adults with kids after 8:30 pm, which was not enforced. I found so tragic to see 5 and 6 years old kids sitting at the bar while their alcoholic parents make a hell of a party after 8:30. Also far from intelligent is parents who let their 2 years olds kids running around in diapers only at the buffet....not accpetable.

Want to thanks many people like Rui who was very professionnal in every aspect of our stay, always asking if he can do anything for us. Also thanks to our butler Nash, who make our stay perfect with nice anniversary card and arromatherapy every night. And a very special GRACIAS to Arthuro at the royal pool who was always nice to teach us new words in spanish and to keep briging drinks and food on demand. And I tip my hat to Francissco at The Grill who made me the best desert of my life, with the chef Samuel, The Grill was my place. Special mention to Isreal at pool service, we met him at Now Sapphire last year, what a great person.

Almost forgot Alma DeVilla at the Royal service who was prompt to answer emails and make sure to provide what I ask before checking in.

Will definately consider returning next year if price is good.
