I just want to say what a fantastic hotel and holiday. The staff couldn't do enough for us.
From Adrian on the front desk or Giovvanie and Edward in the main restaurant.
I would also like to say that the rooms were kept immaculate even when we got the tail end of a hurricane they never stopped. The food was wonderful and plenty to choose from.
And for trips we walked down to the small shops and saw Leo who sorted uot some wonderful trips. Will be back to swim with the Whale Sharks

Room Tip: All the rooms we saw were great.

We stayed for 4 day from feb 2 2011 - feb 6 2011. I went with my boyfriend at the time and about 60 people from his work. The first night we were there he asked me to marry him right next to the fountain in the main courtyard. That pretty much set up for the best trip of my life. The drinks were the usual at resorts like this, kinda weak. However the property was perfectly maintained and the beach was the nicest I have ever been to. The beach alone is a reason to go back and I most definitely will!

Room Tip: all the rooms seemed really nice

We really enjoyed our stay at the Riu Palace Mexico. The check-in was a breeze; all of the staff were pleasant and worked hard to assure we were happy. Our favorite was Yamir that led that staff at the Krystal Fusion restaurant; he was awesome. The food was excellent in buffets as well. The beach was perfect; no rocks, white sand and had a gradual slope. The gold-colored wrist bands we received at check-in provide us exchange privileges with the Riu's on each side Riu Yucatan & Riu Playacar, across the street Riu Tequila and up the street Riu Palace Riviera Maya. It was fun to swim in their pools and drink from their swim-up bars. The entertainment was livelier at the other Riu's, but that suited us fine because our room was quiet. Since the 1980’s, my girlfriend visited about 8 other resorts in the Cancun and Rivera Maya area and believes that our stay at the Riu Palace Mexico was the best. I proposed to my girlfirend on the bridge over the courtyard fountain, making it our special place forever.

Room Tip: We stayed on the non-courtyard side and liked our selection because it was quiet. I suspect the cou...

i stayed for 2weeks, 30thsept to14th oct with my husband, unfortunately not the best holiday due to the weather and illness, however nothing to do with the hotel ,firstly the room we were given was very spacious and immaculately cleaned, flowers and animals made daily we had a 2nd floor room facing the fountains and swimming pool definately worth paying the extra for this.
beach
kept clean, plenty of sunbeds, nice touch the waiters bring you a selection of drinks down on to the beach, hammocks amongst the palm trees to protect you from the sun unfortunately we didnt get to see much sun, on the downside the current in the water can be quite strong at times and quite a steep incline to get into the water
restaurants
the food in the main buffet was excellent, choice was fantastic everyones needs catered for, the waiters are very attentive never had to wait for a table we prefferred to sit outside only downside a lot of people smoke as their is no smoking ban there, only went to the steakhouse as we enjoyed the variety on offer in the main restaurant.
bar
lobby bar, again excellent service, hiran looked after us never had an empty glass ,all spirits are well known brands a good choice of cocktails, piano player excellent as was the guy who played the flute.
overall enjoyed the holiday,no complaints about the hotel, weather wasnt the best dont think i would return, to many other places to visit thats the only reason

Room Tip: rooms facing the fountains are lovely nice view

We stayed from Oct 15, 2011 to Oct 21, 2011. Overall, we enjoyed the trip, main problems for us were out of the control of the hotel. It did rain, a lot! The surf was very rough and the red flags were out for a few days. Food was better in some restaurants, not so good in others. I've read the reviews posted recently and have to say we didn't like Miyagi but we did like Krystals. The main buffet, Don Julian, was pretty much normal buffet food. If you got a made-to-order dish, it was hot. Most of the regular dishes were just warm. We enjoyed the entertainment every night, the staff were wonderful. Didn't have any problems with staff at all. Main problem for me was the walkways and corridors were slick because of the rain and I slipped several times and fell down once. The other "problem" was they issue one room key. So, we had to coordinate who was where to make sure we could get in the room if we weren't together all the time. What is the deal with issuing one key. They charge if you lose it, why not issue a second one and charge for that also? I would still recommend this hotel though. We enjoyed the pool when it wasn't raining and the staff at the pool bar were attentive without being obnoxious.

Room Tip: Wasn't aware we could choose...

We Just returned from a 7 night stay at the Riu Palace Mexico in honor of our 20th wedding anniversery. The service and the food quality were the best we have ever had anywhere. The bed was very firm but we like it that way. Everything everywhere was always spotless. Nobody expected tips but we always tip for excellant service. The Steak House and Crystal sit down Resteraunts were both excellant as well. I don't know why anyone would write a bad review about this Hotel. Thank you Very much for our wonerful stay. We have stayed at the Riu Palce 11 times now, 9 times during September, once in December and once in February. If, as the last few reviews keep implying, this hotel is dissapointing then we would not be repeat visitors. Our last visit was September this year, there was a party of 40 of us, all from England, in Mexico to attend a beach wedding at this resort. We have seen numerous weddings over the last 11 years and can honestly say that this was probably the largest group of people together that we have seen. The wedding was amazing, the beach, the reception and the steak house for our meal were outstanding, and the staff were absolutely fantastic. Our party consisted of ages 2 to 82, all of whom agreed that the Riu Palace is a very special place, most of whom WILL return again. The staff at this hotel are among the best in the world, we have so many that we now count as our friends, in fact we now refer to our holidays as "visiting friends".
I know that not everyone has the same views as us but, please, take the negative reviews with a pinch of salt and go and see for yourselves, you will not be dissapointed. Yes, some parts of the hotel are in need of refurbishment, but look above all of that, see the people there, speak to them, get to know them, they are the people who will make your dreams come true.

Room Tip: Be polite when checking in, the reception staff are very busy people, politeness goes a very long wa...
