“Cute place for a relaxing trip”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2009

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a couple of days in March 2009 and really enjoyed our visit. The staff is really helpful and friendly and the hotel itself has a relaxed vibe. I'm not a spring breaker kind of person, and this hotel was a good fit for my vacation: nice music and snacks at the "Mayan Bistro" (their restaurant), beautiful bougainvilleas and palm trees around the courtyard, nicely kept pools for taking a quick dip, and close proximity to a well-priced and fantastic massage ($30/hr at Spa Azul Maya!). The rooms are pretty big and have expected amenities: A/C, King bed, full bath, sliding patio doors and the location is great- a 5 min walk to the beach, where you can rent loungers at "Kool" (ask for coupon at the front desk) and all the restaurants and shops along 5th ave. Be sure to check out the cafes and restaurants a little outside the touristy area too. Quick Tip: grab snacks and water at the "MEGA" supermarket on Constituyente if you are taking day trips and want to save money! AWESOME PASTRIES!

We stayed at Aventura Mexicana for 3 days in late March. It's in the perfect location in Playa del Carmen, with access not only to the beach, but a number of great restaurants and very good Mexican food. Additionally, it is a great hub for tours heading to the nearby Mayan ruins (we traveled to Tulum, Coba, Chichen Itza and highly recommend all 3).

The staff was very friendly and very helpful. We were in contact with them before our arrival and they arranged cost-effective transportation from the airport (and to our next hotel at the end of the stay) for us. They also let us check-out at the normal time and yet leave our luggage with them so we could spend a few more hours in the town.

The rooms were pretty big and nice, but nothing flashy. For those concerned with privacy, our bathroom was not separated by a door, but in a separate enclave. I am not sure if bigger rooms have that issue.

The restaurant at the hotel was nice, but comparatively pricey to local joints. We only ate off the "snack" menu while we were there. It's good, but for dinner, you are better off going to one of the many places in Playa del Carmen, we had good meals at Quinta Passion (on 5th & 28th), HC de Monterrey (on Constituente) and a local taco place on 5th.

Overall, I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place conveniently located and for a good price.

We stayed at the Aventura with my wedding party from March 2nd-8th. This hotel is really lovely, the gardens, pools and loungers are really nice, there are plenty of areas to chill out in or sit around with family. The rooms are regular hotel rooms, the staff keep it very clean, the beds were not too hard, and the air conditioning worked very well. We stayed int he little house/roomt hats all by itself at the top of the second floor in the newer area of the hotel (honeymoon suite). It was really cozy and nice to have our own gated patio - only downside - people were curious and would come to check it out and also the maid kept comming over early int he morning to move the chairs.
It is very convinient that there is free internet in the lobby and the staff at the front desk are really helpful and honest, they always got us a fair deal on taxis/taxi van, and told us really great restuarants to eat in etc.
I would totally stay here again, the price was great, the hotel itself feels friendly, and the location is awesome. You can walk to any number of beaches or to 5th, or to walmart (walmart is kinda far though). Its location is quiet, its interior is clean, and the breakfasts are very good (omelettes were great!). Everyone in the wedding party said they would stay here again, so we were all very happy, no complaints :)

We stayed at Aventura for 4 nights and it is a beautiful little hotel within walking distance to the beach and 5th avenue. Hotel is as depicted on the website and staff very helpful and friendly.
The only thing you have to beware is that hotel has got limited parking and on busy days, such as friday nights and weekend, please ask hotel for a sign saying Hotel guest that you can display in your rental car if you are not parking at the designated hotel parking spots.
We parked 100 metres away on a busy friday night and went for dinner only to come back later to see that the Mexican police has taken away our number plate and given us a fine. Having read so much about Mexican police, we were very nervous the next day having to show up at the local police station.Thankfully, we paid the fine (early discount if paid within 3-4 days) and they gave us the number plate back.

We booked this hotel Feb. 24-March 2. Upon arrival, we saw that it is a rather small, pretty and a well kept hotel. If this is what you want - this is the place to stay. Quiet and away from the hustle bustle of Fifth Avenue - but just around the corner from the action. I recommend that you book and confirm a king deluxe room. They are bright, meticulously clean and newer, therfore are very comfortable. While we had some wranglings with our room and the proximity of where it was in relation to where my family member's room was located, the priniciple owner of the hotel, Andy Mortensen, couldn't do enough to extend his support in rectifying the situation - and even offered us a great room at a great price the next time we visit Playa. I do not doubt for a second that he meant it!

If quaint, reasonably priced and a clean, pretty place to stay is your thing, you should consider Aventura Mexicana for your stay!

My partner and I stayed at the Aventura Mexicana for 6 nights in March of 2009. We reserved one of the "Deluxe King" rooms prior to our trip and when we arrived we were actually given a "Junior Suite" for the same price. At the time of our reservation, if you booked 3 or more nights you got 30% off. I'm surprised to hear of other people paying $140/night since we paid only $85 or so.

The room was enormous, with a living/dining/kitchen area, a raised bedroom, and very large bathroom. As others have said, he bathroom walls were not to the ceiling so privacy was slightly eliminated, but it did come with a door and with the AC running, noises weren't easily heard.

The room was immaculately maintained, and the chambermaids did a wonderful job keeping things clean (and preparing some hilarious towel animals).

The grounds are quite lovely with two small pools and lush shrubbery. There are three sunbathing decks, but we only used them briefly as it was too much (we prefered going to the beach).

The complimentary breakfasts at Mayan Bistro are very simple (literally orange juice, coffee, and bread). However, for only $2 you can get an omelette, too. Some days, it was worth it to splurge on the extra $2, but most days we just had toast then went to Kool Beach Club and had lunch there.

The staff at the restaurant and front desk were always friendly. My partner took advantage of their spa and had a massage (for $30, I believe...maybe $35). He said it was decent.

Our only problem with our room was the occasional noise. This junior suite is located next to the restaurants storage room so you can occasionally hear them working. In addition, there is a room upstairs and since all rooms have tile floors, we heard every chair being slid...particularly at night when those guests returned from shopping/dining.

But, being city dwellers ourselves, this wasn't too much of an issue. If your'e sensitive to noise, Id recommend reserving a room on the third floor (since there is nobody above you).

Our reservation was initially for 5 days (we planned on spending the final night in Cancun), but at the last minute we decided to stay one extra at Aventura Mexicana.

Long story short, we're already talking about a return trip to Playa, and would definitely stay here again. The location was quiet (in terms of street noise) and was so close to great dining and shopping (and two great beach clubs).

Was there anything not to like here? Not really. Great food in the cafe, pleasant staff, clean, spacious, comfortable room--really liked the spacious bathroom and loft-like design of the room with walls that stopped before reaching the ceiling. There was also a cool small pool in a beautiful garden setting. Yes, will be returning here next time I am in Playa. Very relaxing atmosphere here.
