Aventura Mexicana

This hotel has very friendly staff. If you ask them something, they are immediately prepared to react and do what they can. Although Playa is extremely busy, the hotel has a serene atmosphere.

The restaurant of the hotel offers good food for lunch and dinner. Also the continental breakfast is nice with a good croissant.

The hotel in general is very clean and the rooms too. The rooms on the ground floor are very large and can be darkened really well throughout the day. This was very convenient for the naps of our one year old. Our bathroom was separated from the rest of the room (on the first floor it is not and these are also difficult to darken). Something you might need to mention when you book your room if you have a child that takes a nap!

There are 2 swimming pools: one for adults only and one with a part for little children. The shallow part is large enough for a one year old to play. Although there is no fence and there are stairs to deeper water, as a parent you need to be close anyway because even in shallow water little children can drawn.

There is also a 40 meter square covered area where our one year old run lots when it rained for instance.

Walking to the beach took us 8 minutes. Of course it would be much easier to stay at the beach but budget counts too.

In summary we had a great stay with our one year old in a clean ground floor room.

If you want to be close to 5th ave. and have a great restaurant in your hotel, then you will not be disappointed. I would have liked one bigger pool instead of two small ones, I never saw anyone in them. Great if you just want to go to beach for swimming.

A great place to stay in Playa - a short walk to the beach and right off 5th Ave. Nice pool area - you could easily while a way a day there. Can walk to everything you need. Staff all very friendly and helful. Didn't try the restuarant, mainly because it always seemed deserted, and there were so many other options right on the doorstep. A shame really. Parking is limited but we always found a space either in the dedicated spaces right in front of the hotel or on a nearby road.

This is not the best hotel if you have a toddler. Our room was on the second floor and we had to drag the stroller up 17 stairs twice a day. In addition, there was a giant hole (missing cement bars) that my daughter could have easily fallen through on our balcony, so we held her hand whenever she was there with us. We requested to have our room changed, but since the hotel was full, our request could not be granted. On the other hand, if we were on the first floor, our worries may have been that our daughter would run to and fall in one of the many small unfenced pools.

The lighting in the room was poor. I couldn't believe how dark the living room was. (We had a room with a living room area.) One strange thing about the room itself was that the bathroom was not enclosed. By this, I mean, of course, it had walls but there was no ceiling. So, you could easily hear the person in the bathroom, er, going to the bathroom. I was not comfortable with this!

Sunlight came in from the bathroom, so every morning when the sun came up, my daughter woke us up! There was no way to put anything over the window because there was no curtain rod. Closing the bathroom door didn't help. The toilet clogged, and no, we did not put paper in it. It took a rather long time to get hot water in the shower. On New Year's Eve, there was NO water. I imagine the many people wanting to get showered at about 6 PM were not happy about this.

We were going to try the restaurant at the hotel but when we sat down, we were told they were "running behind." The place looked fairly empty to me. The fact we couldn't get a menu wasn't a good sign, so we left.

Be aware the hotel is not on the beach but rather a few blocks away. It got to be a schlep, having a toddler with us. Staying in a hotel on the beach is much easier.

On the positive, the staff was very nice and friendly. The hotel grounds and our room itself were very clean.

Thank you so much for your thorough feedback! We very much consider ourselves a kid friendly hotel with one side of our hotel reserved especially for our familly travelers. We will look into your concerns and address those that we can change to improve the travel experience for our future familiy guests.

There was a water pump that broke on NYE that unfortunatley caused for our water pressure to fail. This was fixed within a 2 hour period and water was restored to the hotel with little interruption.

Thanks again for your comments as this feedback is valuable to our team so that we may address any concerns and maintain our Trip Advisor Award of Excellence!

Our first trip to Mexico, and didn't really know what to expect when we got off the ferry boat. After a hot walk down 5th Avenue, we were pleasantly surprised to find this beautifully decorated, relaxing hotel in the middle of town. It was very private and the staff was friendly. The food in their restaurant was delicious and we found ourselves dinning there more often then we thought.

I have spent 3 weeks at this charming Feng Shui style hotel. Lush gardens with Feng Shui style landscape are to die for. Centrally located with it's own cosy little restaurant serving delicous meals at all times and nightly Happy Hour! I stayed in one of their completly renovated large & bright rooms with balcony. I was in heaven! A MUST...
During my stay, I was introduced to a courteousvery & very friendly (english speaking) Taxi Driver named Victor Carillo. This father of two children just bought a new taxi: #1563 He knows Quintana Roo and the Yucatan like his pocket. He will take you anywhere your heart desires. Excursions, snorkeling, shopping, airport pick up/drop off and more.....His phone No. is 984 108 5433.. I have travelled extensively and recommend him to you without hesitation.

We just returned from 5 nights at Aventura Mexicana. Our vacation started in Cancun at a ritzy resort, but my whole family agreed that we enjoyed our time here more. The grounds were beautiful, the pools pristine. For a hotel of this relatively small size, we were impressed by the number of maintenance people cleaning and grooming the grounds every day. The front desk staff were friendly and spoke excellent English. Our rooms were immaculate, pretty quiet and comfortable. The entire place was charming. We would definitely stay here again.

One specific "above and beyond" positive: About a week before our trip, I went to their website and typed in info to make a reservation for the same dates as our stay, just out of curiosity. The site came back with a rate over 40% less than what I was charged when I booked in March. I emailed to question this, and our rate was immediately lowered to match the website, no questions asked. Great customer service!

My only somewhat negative comment is that the waiter/bartender who worked evenings was painfully slow, though a charming guy. The women who worked the breakfast shift hustled and were super sweet. The food was superb.

Loved everything about Aventura Mexicana, and will definitely stay here again if we ever return to Playa del Carmen.
