“Fantatic Resort for Familes with Kids in PDC!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2014

We just returned from a fantastic week at the Paradisius Esmeralda and its a fantastic, relaxing, luxurious place for families to go on vacation.I’d give it 4.5 stars out of 5 0 — here’s my breakdown —

Atmosphere/Main Area. Lovely. You enter past reception into a beautiful water-lined courtyard open to the elements. Its the center area, tied to the restaurants, concierges, and room area. Well designed, very feng shui. The hotel is less than 3 years old and everything is quite modern and not done on the cheap.

Rooms. Wide variety of rooms, we chose a 1 bedroom master suite for 2 adults and 2 small kids. It was the perfect size, as we had our own bedroom and they shared a large pull out couch. Both rooms had flat screens, though we did not watch much. The bed was among the best hotel/resort beds I have ever slept in. Marble floors are nice and the large kitchenette area was really useful for when we wanted to get (24 hour) room service. The bathroom was awesome — soaking tub in 1 room, double ceiling mounted rain showers in the other. Wow. Everything was very clean and the cleaning service each day was great.

Service. Again 5 stars. Everyone is incredibly nice and helpful, no matter the request. We had some minor issues, that Oliver the service manager and Zulma helped address. They also made reservations for dinner (and golf) for us — the concierges are just great.

Pool & Beaches. The pools are really impressive. Main kids pool has a giant floating obstacle course (Wibit) along with a smaller kiddie pool with a pirate ship and slides. We spent half our time our here. Tons of comfy pool chairs and a lot of cabana (go early to reserve a cabana). Pools are chilly in winter though, to be honest. Though the family concierge (another) pool is heated and also great. Swim up bars were lovely and the liquor is top shelf. The beach does not live up to the pools. Its a short walk away, but very shallow and somewhat rough, not ideal for swimming for little kids. Not awful by any means but its also just not that great (nothing they can do here, though the drink/food service on beach was great, and lots of beach chairs to relax in).

Food. Surprisingly good for an all inclusive. The breakfast buffet is great, and we tried the Asian and Brazilian restaurants, which we all really enjoyed. Lunches were by the pool areas, and the burgers/chicken/salads were all good — no complaints at all. We really were not expecting this to be as good as it was. There are lots of places to choose from as the hotel shares some of the central area with its adults only sister property (la perla).

Activities. There are lots of activities on site if you want. Kayaking, snorkeling, and tons of off-site activities, which are easy to book, with no pressure (though the repeated requests to hear pitches for Club Melia are irritating). There are also tons of shows at night, and we checked out a few early ones which were also better than I expected. Though the pole dancing class by the kids pool was… a curious choice by the hotel. Also, the shows at 9:30 and 10 in the main atrium/North Ave Bar can be very loud — and thats fine, unless your room is facing that area. If you have little kids, I strongly recommend you ask for a room that is not facing the North Ave bar directly.

Kids Club. Totally fine. Good activities for 5-10 year olds, and an ‘ok’ secure area for 1-4 year olds (meaning a lot of tv in there). But — its safe and they are well taken care of. No concerns here.

Location. Just north of PDC, which was great. No hustle/bustle, 30 min from the Cancun airport, and 15 min to XCaret and Xplor, 10 min to PDC if you want to shop.

Overall, we had a great experience. You can do nothing and chill or be really active there. Its very relaxing and they cater to the vacationers. We would definitely go back and its perfect for families with kids under 10.

I often use to travel to nice hotels, but this was the first one, where I really didn’t had any bad experience and would like to go back, because it was perfect.
The hospitality of all employees was amazing. I was on a business trip, but feels like a holiday. The service even on the beach was excellent. All the technical things was working perfect. The bars, restaurants, was very good and various.
So even if it’s a business, or holiday trip, I can be sure, that I will feel good.

Can't think of a bad word to say. Family just returned from a week at Paradisus La Esmeralda. From the moment we checked in to the moment we left, nothing but great service, great food, good times. Every staff member was gracious, accommodating and willing to help with ANYTHING, not just what was in their job description. Restaurants more than satisfied a couple of NYC food snobs who were all-inclusive skeptics - as well as our 5 and 3 year old kids. We were told the resort was fully booked, but amazingly never felt crowded (except occasionally at the breakfast buffet at rush hour, which was no big deal). Great location - easy drive from Cancun airport, short ride to Tulum and the nature parks. This is not a bargain-priced resort, but we found the value to be outstanding in comparison to similar places we've stayed in the past. Just go, you won't regret it - these guys know how to do it right.

Amazing guest service. Both on beach and in restaurants. But especially beach, sunrise grill and pool bar. Drinks and preferences remembered. Dominga at breakfast buffet was so smiley and happy and attentive Mole service excellent as well. Loved the fact that you can lay on beach and wSlk just a 100 feet and have a full var and a barbeque of food in addition to bar service on beach. Took part in some activities and had fun. Meringue anyone?

We purchased a 5 day 4 night stay at Paradisus La Esmeralda through Groupon. I was skeptical that the deal seemed 'too good to be true' but was pleasantly surprised that Paradisus was as nice (if not even nicer!) than advertised.

The resort was so wonderful - everything was very clean, beautifully decorated, the food was wonderful, and the room was superb. We will definitely be booking another vacation at Paradisus in the future - we're already planning the trip! I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a very relaxing all inclusive resort experience.

Trip highlight: The staff was the friendliest resort staff I've ever encountered. Carmen F. on the beach was our favorite and definitely went out of her way to make our stay as wonderful as could be. This would be a perfect resort for families with young kids (under 12) or adults looking for a romantic getaway.

We just returned from our third family vacation at Paradisus La Esmeralda. We were five adults and four children. We enjoyed our vacation tremendously due to the beautiful surroundings, accommodations, variety of restaurants and excellent service. We especially enjoyed the beach where you could stay all day and have drinks and lunch brought to you. We did find that the water in the pools were very cold and took time to get used to but the pools were well maintained and lovely.
We enjoyed the nature walk and nightly entertainment and the food in the restaurants were fresh, tasty and displayed beautifully.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2014

We spent a lot of time reviewing family friendly resorts in Riviera Maya and for the most part the positive reviews were mostly accurate and we were not disappointed. We were a family of 5 with two teenagers (13 and 15) and a 7 year old and just got back after spending a week over the President's Day holiday. Here are some of our experiences/observations of this resort:

Room/Location: We decided to go for the family concierge with 2 adjoining rooms and it was great. Our concierge was always helpful in booking restaurants and even help coordinate travel arrangements outside of the resort. By going with the concierge service it allowed us to have access to the private heated pool and a reserved lounge area at the beach. The best part of the family concierge turned out to be the access to the heated pool. None of the other pools at the resort were heated. We were tempted by other reviewers to upgrade to the swim out rooms and that would have been a complete waste. Those pools were generally much cooler and we barely saw anybody using those pools even during the hottest part of the day. Our connecting rooms were nicely furnished and about 450 Sq feet so nothing huge but perfect for our use. As part of the family concierge they gave us use of an XBox and every day seemed to have a special treat awaiting for the kids (i.e. cookies/cakes in cute shapes, balloons, etc)

Pool: For the most part we used the family concierge pool and thought it was great as we were able to comfortably use the pool until 6 PM or later even after the sun goes down. When looking at the other pools they were comfortable but cooler and generally once the sun stopped shining the pools were too cool to use while the family concierge pool was great. As stated above at least in Feb the swim out rooms to us seem unused and not worth an upgrade. The one annoying aspect is everybody wanted the cabanas by the pool and it seemed they were getting "reserved" by 6 AM or earlier each day. We tried a few times and gave up. We noticed one day where the pool staff removed some items after awhile of non-use but for the most part it was annoying that some families would just camp out at these all day.

Beach: Was really impressed as the beach while not particularly large was clean with plenty of chairs and special lounge area for the family concierge. The water itself was generally very calm. The hotel provided buckets and shovels for the kids and the hotel provide free use of kayaks. One could rent a Wave Runner for $70/30 minutes and also go on some snorkel tours for ~$50 a person. For some reason the last few days (maybe b/c it was a little windier/choppier water) they did not seem to be renting. As to the ocean the area directly in front of the chairs was a little rocky so we went about 200 feet to the north and used the "public" beach where there were NO rocks. That area was frequented by locals and only on Sunday was that part of the beach crowded.

Food/Drinks: Being all inclusive was great and our kids did room service late at night on many of the nights. We ate breakfast everyday at Naos and it was good but crowded. Not the best breakfast buffet but certainly a ton of choices and good quality. For lunch we generally used the grill at the beach or by the family concierge pool. The restaurants at night were good and we had some very good meals at Bana (Japanese) and Fuego. Mole (the Mexican Restaurant) was ok and should have been better. We ended up passing on Vento as menu seemed so-so for our tastes. All of the sit-down restaurants have the same child menu. There were plenty of bars throughout the hotel and drinks would come pretty quickly. Many of the drinks seemed on the weak side but it was nice to have that included.

Kids/Children Activities: We tend not to use these too much but this is one area which is surprisingly underwhelming at this resort. We have seen other kids camps at Beaches Resort, Disney Cruises, etc. and this just was no comparison. Despite the resort being full it seemed like these were not widely used by others. There is a kids zone near the front entrance of the resort which is an odd, out-of-the way location and the hours were not consistent. While there was a game room they should have a much larger one with more activities, games, video games, etc. There should also be some basketball hoops at the resort and some other areas where some older kids would want to go.

In general we would highly recommend this resort and thought it was great. We only gave 4 stars as some of the food could have been a little better, annoying "reserving" of pool chairs, and weak kids/teens activity areas.

Room Tip: Would not pay up for swim-up room at least in Feb as those pools are pretty cool and not heated.
