I was vacationing with three other families and we all had small children. Going to a restaurant was not going to happen but we were tired of shopping, cooking and cleaning every night.

We hired chef Tona who came to our rental house with all the groceries for the menu we chose. It was $42 usd per adult for four courses. It was so easy and the adults were all able to enjoy an evening together. It was so nice! Tona made really good local food and he gave us tips on cocktails that we made ourselves. He did help with those too actually! I think he is a bartender so they were really good.

He's lived in Canada so his english is perfect which makes it really easy and we got to talk about Mexico and politics which we hadn't the chance to do with anyone else.

We hired him to come cook another night for us. I would recommend not doing it on your last night because we were sad to not get to eat the left overs. We had the roast pork Mayan style and it was excellent. We also did the coconut shrimp the night before which were very good.

He also completely cleaned up and just made the whole night a pleasure.

Thanks Tona!

Great way to spend an evening instead of the usual restaurants and you get to learn some Mexican cuisine, as well. Food and drinks were fantastic and super fresh. Tona takes care of everything, just have to let him know how well equipped your condo kitchen is. If it’s missing anything, he will take of it. Highly recommended.

It was as if we had an old friend cooking in our kitchen. we wound up hanging out with Tona as he cooked and we drank his home-made margaritas and had super tasty salsas and appetizers. we chatted about local food and he gave us an excellent recommendation for a local lunch spot. we then went out to our deck to be served a delicious dinner (Conchinita Pibil). all the food was excellent and it was such a pleasure to be hanging out at home for this great meal. he is a friendly guy, also with our young kids, who were hanging around/running around as he cooked. he came back another night for a cooking class, where he provided some useful tips on technique (chopping, cutting up a chicken) and we had another great meal. Tona was very responsive, professional, and flexible in our early communications deciding on the menu and logistics of our meals.

This is my 4th review of Chef Tona. We've had Chef Tona come and cook for our family every year on our annual PDC trip. This time he came to our villa for 3 different meals:
Welcome lunch- nothing better than arriving after 5 hrs of traveling to an amazing lunch including fresh salsa, guacamole, fish tacos with 3 home made sauces and of course authentic margaritas.

Saturday morning brunch- Arrachera steak chilaquiles, Bloody Mary's and did I mention bloody Mary's!!!

Farewell dinner- Tona prepared an amazing Conchinita Pibil - marinated pork cooked and wrapped in banana leaves. The pork literally melted in your mouth. We shredded it and made tacos with it and a myriad of fresh salsas he made. Followed by dessert of fried plantains and creme fresh. THANKS TONA!! Once again you exceeded expectations.

We hired Chef Tona for a New Years Eve dinner in the condo we rented. He was very easy to work with over email prior to the trip to arrange the date/time/menu and everything. Tona started us out with chips, salsa, and guac which were all delicious. The salsa was gone! Then we each got our own little cup of ceviche which was amazing - possibly the best fish we had all trip. For the main dish we chose a traditional dish - Cochinita Pibil and it was AMAZING! And for dessert we had fried plantains - YUM! Everything was great. His margaritas too are dangerous! They taste so good but be careful! We had leftovers too which was great and we used the leftover meat to make nachos the next day for lunch. We're still talking about the food! Overall, we'd highly recommend Chef Tona if you're looking to bring in a private chef for an evening or two while in PDC. It can't compare to the food in the restaurants. Honestly it's spendy though (especially since we hired him on a holiday) but really was the best food we had the whole trip. Thanks Tona!
