Absolutely loved our stay at the Palm. We took the offer of the upgrade to the suite, which is essentially a massive apartment-style room with double showers, bed area, and lounge area with a balcony overlooking the street. The staff could not do enough for us, giving recommendations, advice on activities and being genuinely friendly and interested in making our stay enjoyable (Sinahi is awesome!). The rooftop pool looks exactly like the haven it is in the pictures, with attentive and fun waiters. You have a fantastic view of the sea from the roof. The hotel is less than a year old and has been kept up to a high standard with spotlessly clean rooms. The only downside is that the rooms face the street, and are surrounded by hostels and bars with loud music into the night. They have clearly thought about this with soundproof windows, but this isn't always enough- the solution for this is to join the parties yourself! Best for young couples or groups of friends. Location is great- just off the main tourist street and 3 minutes walk to the beach. Breakfast is in the restaurant downstairs which is okay - nothing special, and you order off the menu rather than self-service. Meals we had there were good.

Room Tip: Get the upgrade to the bigger room - it's worth it!

We loved the hotel, it wasn't perfect but I think it came pretty close.

Firstly the location - its just block away from the main street with restaurant, bars and shops. It is not on the beach, but to be honest, if you want to swim at the beach, this is the wrong location for you entirely - it smells very fishy, and if you want the white sandy beach, head to Tulum. The entrance to the hotel is down a street marked for pedestrians, but if you arrive in a taxi or car, they will wave you through.

Secondly the rooms - we had the cheapest option, which was a twin room with no terrace, or view. A perfectly formed little box. It was fine for us, but if you want more light, ask for one with the terrace/ balcony and away from the street. The rooms were clean and modern, only tiny design features, like no where to hang wet towels. The aircon was fantastic, as was the TV - pretty much all brand new. Tip the maids everyday and its cleaned perfectly. Oh and the beds were lovely and comfortable so a pretty good nights sleep too.

Thirdly the restaurant - breakfast was included and it was delicious, good options too including both mexican (lots of egg dishes) and american (pancakes) . On the smaller side, but the quality was very good. The team in the restaurant were friendly as well - you can ask them to change the TV channels if there is something you want to watch. We didn't see anyone eat here, but it offers dinner.

Fourthly and most importantly the roof bar and pool. By far the best pool I have seen. Absolute luxury. The bar does not have a menu - they should really get one- but the staff were friendly and made whatever drink you like, you just need to provide detailed instructions. However its not a 5 star bar so don't expect that level of service. The food from the restaurant can be delivered to the pool. They have parties on certain nights - the target market seems to be locals - or at least non-guests. so its a random crowd but if you are travelling alone, at least its not empty.

The overall service was good. We had one issue when the hotel lost its alcohol licence for 48 hours due to...(well it depends which member of staff you spoke to) but we think a party it held one night so not ideal! Would not deter me from staying again though - everyone we met said they made a real effort to offer assistance and I would agree with this. But anyway, stay tor the pool alone.

At first I was impressed by this hotel. The room is very spacious and nicely designed. The pool is beautiful: it looks exactely as in the pictures. However, there were a few flaws with my stay. First of all, our room was facing the street and it was impossible to sleep at night (hard live music until 5 AM). A few of the rooms are simply too loud to be offered to customers. There is a bar at the pool that is very expensive. After 2 days with 50-dollar tabs of drinks, we brought 2 cans of beer from a store to the poolside and got on an argument with the staff around "their policy"... bad way to treat your hard-paying customers. At check-out, I discovered a bill from another customer in my invoice. The staff fixed all my complaints, but it seems they couldn't just get everything right at first.

Room Tip: Avoid the street facing rooms

I am sorry your stay was not as planned. We do have installed triple glass on all the balcony doors facing the street as we know it can get noisy in Playa del Carmen. This seems to be sufficient for the majority of our clients but I am aware we all have different tolerance to noise. I have checked our records and I find no reports that the noise bothered you, had we known we would have done everything possible to assign you a different room.

As to our bar prices, Playa del Carmen offers a huge variety of bars and beach clubs so we try to remain competitive with our prices in order not to lose our clientele to other venues. I have checked you bar bill to ensure there were no mistakes and found that that in your 2 day stay for 6 mixed premium drinks we charged you $485 MXP around $38 USD, prices I believe are on line or below our competition. I am sorry you were bothered by our strict policy on introducing food and drink into the pool area, but it is a general policy in hotels, restaurants and beach clubs as we invest heavily in offering you comfortable, safe and beautiful areas to enjoy your stay.

Once again thank you for sharing your comments with us.

Me and my family stayed at The Palm... in Playa Del Carmen from the 10th till the 17th July 2013. The hotel is excellent. Located only 30 metres from Avenida Cinco (the main street) and only 80 metres from the beach and the Caribbean sea. The hotel is very fresh and modern. All the rooms and the public areas have a high and modern standard. Super nice spacy rooms with 32 inch TVs, shower, air-condition, fan, large beds etc. etc. The service is excellent all the way. In the reception, (Kenolito, Sinahi, Eleonora and all the others) the bell-boy (Jesus), the room-ladies, the restaurant and breakfast area, the roof-top bar (Adrian and many more). The roof-top area with its nice bar, large pool, hammock, jacuzzi, SPA and fitness centre is just perfect. Not to mention the beautiful 360 degrees view with Cozumel in the horizon. We had som memorable days and highly recommend The Palm at Playa. PS the party factor is high.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the busy streets. Facing into the atrium garden. 2nd floor is perfect.

The Palm at Playa Hotel appears to be a fairly new hotel. Everything was new and tastefully decorated. The location is great, on Calle 8 just off of Avenue 5. Avenue 5 is the main street for shops and restaurants in Playa. Our room was gorgeous. We booked last minute and didn't realize that we booked a "loft." They call it a loft, but it is a room with a living room. We really didn't need a room that large and didn't use the extra space. The bed was comfy.

The bathroom area was spacious and super nice. The shower is a double shower which I especially liked. If you are a bath person, then you are out of luck. The only problem with the shower was the lack of hot water. The whole time we were there, the water was never even truly lukewarm.
The rooftop pool and bar is nice. The waiters there are great.
Breakfast was included in our rate. The breakfast was not a buffet, but menu. The choices were good and the staff for breakfast were welcoming and friendly. I'm a big coffee drinker and I had to wait a bit for my refills.
The wifi was not the greatest in our room. I had to step outside or go near the window by the courtyard.
Overall, this hotel is excellent.

Thank you for taking time to comment on your stay. I am looking into the hot water situation in your room. We installed individual hot water heaters in each room to guarantee an abundant amount of hot water so that you may best enjoy our shower experience.

Bases on several comments from heavy coffee drinkers we have now implemented a system in which we leave a full thermos of coffee at each table. This will insure that you always have an ample supply of hot coffee during breakfast.

Once again thank you for sharing as this makes us work harder to ensure our total guest satisfaction.

From the second we booked we were impressed with the level of great service at this hotel. It is like living in the absolute lap of luxury. Stylish, really comfortable, great atmosphere on the very sexy roof with a wonderful view of the stunning sea. We WILL be coming back! Eleanora, Willberth, Adrian and Ken are just some of the excellent staff who made our stay so perfect. We were so sad to leave and return to reality.

Having spent ages researching places to stay in Playa Del Carmen, I am very glad to say that The Palm at Playa was the perfect choice for us (early 30s couple from Ireland). The location is super: very close to the beach and 5th Ave but removed enough to be able to 'escape' to peace and quiet. The hotel is beautifully designed: really modern and chic. And of course, that rooftop. It has a real wow factor. We stayed the last week in May and every day had plenty of choice of sun-loungers and felt relaxed and at ease being able to dip in and out of the pool, read, or just enjoy in the great view. Our room was gorgeous: I had emailed to ask for a room at the more quiet side and was given 106, a 'palm loft' which was extra large with a cool double shower, nice balcony and very good aircon. The superking bed was extremely comfortable too. The room was cleaned to a high standard and bottles of water replaced every day. In fact, we got a sense of high standards of cleanliness throughout: one day there was a short rain shower and some bugs came down with it, onto the walkways. Poof, these had vanished and all was mopped up really quickly.
We didn't eat in the restaurant at night but enjoyed the 'included breakfast' every day. Once we got a hang of the options (fruit or fruit juice plus a main menu item and tea of coffee) we worked our way through the whole menu. My real favourite was the 'omelette provencal' but the 'divorced eggs' also are worth a try. Great coffee too and very nice staff. The staff on reception were also great: very friendly and professional. We booked one tour (snorkelling and cenotes) through the in-house tour advisor Keshi, and he gave us good tips on other options too. I don't usually go to hotel's own spas but the prices were good so I got a pedicure and was very impressed. We were given vouchers for a free ten minute massage. This was lovely so I followed up with a 30 minute back massage on the last day - fabulous. The spa didn't seem very busy, I hope they get more custom because they're doing a great job. I would certainly recommend this hotel, particularly for younger/young at heart couples or groups of friends. I'd love to go back with friends to enjoy cocktails or beers in the hot tub at sun-down.
Other stray thoughts about Playa: 5th avenue is great for strolling and 'people watching' but we only once ate at a restaurant right on 5th and it was our least favourite dining experience and definitely over-priced. For a casual funky Thai - definitely try Babes. We loved Fusion, right on the beach, and ate there twice. One night was a full moon, it was epic. Their live-in dog is thoroughly well fed, don't encourage him! We also tried a small Italian that was practically in a garage up around 10th/12th (trattoria downtown maybe?) it was excellent and really good value, making up for the not-so-romantic setting. We also adored the smoothies/juices in 'Il Nativo', the mexican food there was good and well priced. Having spent a few days in Tulum prior to Playa, we were a bit underwhelmed by the public beach and opted to do our sunbathing on the lovely roof instead.
Playa is a great base for doing tours: we did a fantastic one to Chichen Itza and Ek Balam with 'Mayans' Explorers' who I highly recommend. We also loved the snorkelling and Cenote trip with I think ' Aventuras Mayas'. Their bilingual (French/English) guide was superb. I would also recommend that people take a trip to the ruins at Tulum: they are breathtaking. From Playa, there is no need to book an organised tour: The ADO bus stops right at the entrance to the ruins and costs only a few dollars. We used ADO to and from the airport and between PDC and Tulum and despite being the only gringos on most trips, we felt safe and comfortable - it is a very professional operation.

Room Tip: We asked for a room at the back and we never heard street noise.

For a boutique hotel in central Playa del Carmen, The Palm at Playa goes beyond the typical hospitality by offering the true lifestyle-beach character. With an accurate service, contemporary-beach design and a superb location by the "5ta Avenida", the town's most vibrant area, The Palm at Playa puts the best in town to handy distance. There are 69 resort-style accommodations which include lofts and apartment-like suites, very chic, generous in space and details. Our Restaurant Calle 8 offers Mexican contemporary cuisine at local prices, while the gym, yoga and holistic-themed therapy rooms at the Spa are still parts of the experience. But our star is the rooftop with the Bar and swiming pool. It's a perfect spot for celebrating the occasion in a stylish atmosphere, a place where dramatic ocean views and rounds of mojitos and margaritas flow constantly. The swimming pool, Jacuzzi and snack bar are the prefect set to relax under the warm and balmy Caribbean sun. But at night the whole terrace transforms itself into to a jazzy-vibrant stage. A chic and trendy place meaning the perfect setting for young souls seeking the groove, while gazing at the horizon and the sizzling lights of Cozumel Island. There are many things to know about The Palm, but the true is just feeling good factor. ... more   less
