“Amazing room”
Reviewed 4 December 2013

I've stayed in many hotels, and this is by far one of the nicest rooms I've seen. It was extremely modern, very impressive. Huge, open, double shower head shower concept. I had the holistic massage in the spa upstairs, which was incredible. A bit pricy, but worth the money. The rooftop pool/bar area was REALLY impressive! If you like a cool, party type atmosphere, then you'd love it here. Music playing all day long, beautiful huge pool and hot tub. Neon lights at night illuminate it giving it a nightclub feel.
The only downside, we stayed here over the weekend, and the locals bars on the street right outside our windows were incredibly loud until 5am. The bed was like laying on a pillow, but with all that noise it was hard to fall asleep.
Other than that, we were very impressed.

Room Tip: Try to ask for a room that doesn't face the busy street where the bars are. I can't remember...

We really enjoyed our stay here. The entire staff is always smiling and really wants you to enjoy every moment. Balcony room is really spacious, rear rooms are quieter. Check in and check out times are flexible, (very appropriated since we arrived 1130 am and checked out 230pm) Roof top pool is a gem, the entire roof is large and well appointed, water temp in the pool is perfect. If you need to unwind after a long night out the roof top pool just about perfect, Marco mixes up some really interesting drinks, Moses knows the town as good as anyone.

Hotel is in the center of town, from what I could tell from speaking to other travelers staying at other hotels we made the best choice! This is not a OMG drop dead gorgeous hotel, but it is actually was just about perfect for my wife and I.

Playa del carmen is such a chill relaxing place to visit.

Room Tip: Rear rooms a less noisy at night. Upper floors a plus.Room 304.

Let me start by saying the hotel is very nice in terms of decor. We stayed in a suite for one night, and were impressed with the design and modern minimalist set up.

As a guest, you are also offered a free breakfast in the morning at the restaurant downstairs, which was also good.

However, the check in process was a NIGHTMARE! We were three couples, checking in around midnight and unfortunately it took at least 45 minutes to be shown to our room. The key card did not work, so it was another trip downstairs to fix it. There was also a very loud bar across the street, but we got lucky with a room in the back and did not hear it at all. Our room did not have hot water, so we were forced to endure a very quick, very cold shower in the luxurious bathroom area. Unfortunately the phones in the rooms didn't work either. We were all trying to call each other to coordinate our plans for the day, and ended up wasting half of our day due to the faulty phones.

Overall the rooms are nice to look at, but there were clearly some issues to fix before they can justify the $200 a night price tag.

This was our fifth consecutive year going to Playa. Each year we've stayed somewhere different and have had mostly good experiences. The Palm far exceeded all of those previous stays.

The staff is among the hotel's greatest asset. Everyone, from reception, to the restaurant, to the pool staff, to housekeeping and maintenance are beyond friendly and helpful. The room was great (we were kindly upgraded for free which was completely unexpected) - HUGE double shower, bar and lounge area, comfortable bed, and sizeable outdoor patio. We looked at other reviews prior to arrival and requested a quiet room away from the street.

The pool is awesome. It was bigger than expected with more than enough seating for guests and access to either sun or shade, whichever you prefer. The view was great - although a 1 minute walk from the beach, the view of the ocean makes it feel like the hotel is even closer.

I really couldn't find fault with anything. My only suggestions would be to 1. add a small fridge into the bar section of the room and 2. partner with a different or second beach club. Fusion is nice in the evening, but the beach club section is too small, too crowded and too shaded by day.

We've never stayed at the same place twice, but will make The Palm our first choice on our next trip back.

Our experience with The Palm at Playa hotel in Playa del Carmen in August 2013 was very positive. We recommend this hotel for the following reasons.

+ location right in the city center of Palya del Carmen
+ 20 meters from pedestrian zone but still not very noisy at night
+ parking garage integrated in the hotel basement
+ beautiful rooftop swimming pool & chill out area with seaview
+ this hotel is popular also among mexican tourists
+ rooms are spacious enough, nice and clean
+ room cleanup is discrete and thorough
+ nice hotel architecture with patio
+ friendly & helpful staff
+ nice little gym, well kept
+ tasty breakfast

This hotel is beautifully laid out with large loft rooms, huge showers and the most comfortable beds in Mexico! The staff cater to your needs and the turn down service in the evening is lovely, with mood lighting, music and fresh linens. The pool area is gorgeous and not too big, catering to couples. Not for families with kids, it really is for relaxing. A couple of downers... Very expensive drinks which is cause for us not to return ($10 us for a vodka soda!) this is Mexico after all and that is robbery. Also the bar across the street bangs out the music until 5:30 am, so don't plan on sleeping. And one of our friends had his safe opened and money was missing, no a lot but enough that he noticed, not cool!,, it is right in the heart of the action of playa's 5th ave eating/party zone so if you want a comfortable, kid free, clean place close to the action and plan to party all night, this is it. But count your money and buy your own booze and you'll love it!

Thank you very much for your review, we appreciate all feedback as it permits us to get better.
We try to maintain our prices competitive and do shop around every month to ensure that we are. Mexico is cheap in some aspects but liquor is heavily taxes and imported liquor that much more. Based on your recommendation we have prepared a drink menu highlighting our local brands that offer quality drinks at a lower price.

We have state of the art locks on our doors as with our safe deposit boxes. If he did not do so, please ask your friend to contact us directly and we will show him the records of entry to ensure that there was no unusual behavior.

Once again thank you for your comments and we hope to see you back here soon.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
For a boutique hotel in central Playa del Carmen, The Palm at Playa goes beyond the typical hospitality by offering the true lifestyle-beach character. With an accurate service, contemporary-beach design and a superb location by the "5ta Avenida", the town's most vibrant area, The Palm at Playa puts the best in town to handy distance. There are 69 resort-style accommodations which include lofts and apartment-like suites, very chic, generous in space and details. Our Restaurant Calle 8 offers Mexican contemporary cuisine at local prices, while the gym, yoga and holistic-themed therapy rooms at the Spa are still parts of the experience. But our star is the rooftop with the Bar and swiming pool. It's a perfect spot for celebrating the occasion in a stylish atmosphere, a place where dramatic ocean views and rounds of mojitos and margaritas flow constantly. The swimming pool, Jacuzzi and snack bar are the prefect set to relax under the warm and balmy Caribbean sun. But at night the whole terrace transforms itself into to a jazzy-vibrant stage. A chic and trendy place meaning the perfect setting for young souls seeking the groove, while gazing at the horizon and the sizzling lights of Cozumel Island. There are many things to know about The Palm, but the true is just feeling good factor. ... more   less
