My partner and I stayed at Ocean Maya 05/03/14 - 12/03/14. We had an awful 11 hour flights with delays from London so this place had to be good to put us in good holiday spirits. From the moment we arrived we knew this was going to be excellent. We arrived late due to plane delays and were greeted with a welcome drink and check in was very professional and well explained. Our bags were swiftly taken and put onto the buggy and we had a ride to our hotel room.
The room was great, spacious, spotless and had everything we could of wished for as well as a welcome bottle of Champagne. Housekeeping were fabulous, our room was kept immaculate each day.
The grounds were fantastic, again faultless staff were working all day to keep the gardens well manicured.
Our first day we relaxed by the pool easily got a sun lounger and started our day by the swim up bar. Later were were approached by David in entertainment who took us on a walk to the Beautiful Lagoon. David was fabulous all week - very attentive and always had a smile.
Food was also amazing, I really do not know how anyone can complain about the food...we had faultless meals all week the best being in the French restaurant.
We did a number of excursions, Taxi drivers were always on time and everything was so easy and all staff were so happy. There is not a single thing the staff will not do for you as a guest.
We had the best time ever and would recommend this hotel to everyone. We will also be returning if we can stomach another 11 hour flight.

Room Tip: Take the chance to get up early and walk on the empty beach.

The Ocean Maya Royale is not a place where you stand in long lines, or bump elbows with others because it is overcrowded, or wait in line to jump in one of the pools, or wait endless hours for service, or have kids jump over your lawn chair as they run past you to the pool.

Ocean Maya Royale perfected a resort for mature adults who want to relax, enjoy the sun, meet new friends, wade in the pool and not get splashed, and just enjoy ourselves at our own leisure.

Most of us work very hard for our money so when the wife and I decided to go to Mexico we had three requirements: NO Kids, Resort could not be more than 2 stories high, and be an All Inclusive. BOY! Did we get lucky with a great pick. This Resort met all of those requirements.

For a smaller Resort there are plenty of staff on hand to meet everyone's needs and what is more important they are super friendly. Who wants to go to a place where the employees are crabby and unfriendly? Not this place, from the chambermaids, to the security, to the bell hop, Bar and Restaurant Staff they were super friendly. Always a smile and a pleasant demeanor. Thank you Tila, Yovenettt(??), Ignasio, Miguel, Pretty SunGlass lady! and everyone else that provided us such a great time. There were a few times I had to go to the bar to get my wife out from Ignasio and Miguel's ability to use blenders. Thank you very much for being friendly and just a pleasure to be around.

We met some very nice couples, Richard and Zoe from England, Al and Sue from Winnipeg, Andrew from England... To Richard and Zoe - nice Ziggy Story.... it was a pleasure meeting you and enjoying your honeymoon with you!

On to the review: there are bunch of comments on this resort on Trip Advisor and not all of them are good. Please take those with a grain of salt as everyone can find something wrong or pick on some thing that just wasn't to their pleasure. Its up to you to get over it and have fun! My wife and I would go back to this place 100%.

We travelled with a group of 7 including 3 college age kids on their spring break. Being that this is an adults only hotel we planned that they would be the youngest there and they were but overall they had a good time.

Our stay was great, as referenced by many others the grounds are well maintained. We did notice that some days the housekeeping didn't get wrapped up until close to 5, but we are certain that it was a result of them cleaning and prepping rooms that were being turned over for new guests, which I know we certainly appreciated being able to get into our rooms a few hours ahead of the normal check in time. Overall housekeeping did a great job and the mini bar was refilled daily and they even made adjustments for our preference of no caffeine.

Overall the food was decent. We did notice that the bufffet tending to be very similar each day at lunch and we only took in dinner once at the buffet and it was good. For breakfast we ate their each morning and found it to be a good selection with the fresh omelet bar a great option and they were made right to order. Chef Nick at the Japanese restaurant was outstanding. He made our meal very enjoyable and helped up celebrate a birthday with someone in our party. I highly suggest getting a spot at the grill.

We found the beach and pool area very clean and pleasant. We didn't notice that the pool with the swim up bar to be that much crazier, although any mid day activities due take place there and the activities team does a great job of getting people involved.

The highlight of our visit was getting to know and spending alot of time with the three bar tenders at the pool Bar. Antonio "Tony Cruise, Tom's brother", Miguel, and Ignacio were fantasitic and got to now our drinks and were quick with service, a hello, or to give us a hard time and they really made the time fun. We really enjoyed the afternoon rainstorm under the pool bar on our last day when we were the very few out braving the weather. They went out of their way to entertain and provide fun drinks to try.

Overall we had a great week.

Room Tip: 2nd floor is a great way to go.

We stayed 5 nights at OMR March 7-12. I can't describe how much we enjoyed our short time there. Check in was a breeze. The grounds at the resort are so beautiful! Everything is well maintained. We spent our days at the smaller pool with the bar. That is where most of the activity was. The entertainment crew at OMR is great! Gualu, Annie, David, Poncho, Mario, and Andy were the best. Everyday they had something new and fun to do. It was really nice getting to know them. They genuinely wanted to make your day as fun as possible. The service at the resort was great also. The blow dyer in our room didn't work the first day. We called the front desk and had a new one within 10 minutes. The bartenders at the pool Miguel, Ignacio, Tony, and Angel were great. Even when they were getting slammed with orders they had a smile on their face and made a good drink. The restaurants were amazing! Wonderful food and service. Overall a great vacation, with friends. Nothing to complain about!

Thanks to the hospitality from the entire staff at Ocean Maya Royale, my husband and I had a perfect honeymoon! From the moment we arrived until the moment we stepped on to the shuttle bus to the airport, we were treated like gold. I had notified the resort beforehand that we were traveling for our honeymoon, and upon our arrival we had a "Reciens Casadas" (Just Married) banner on our door, white chocolate-covered strawberries and a bottle of champagne in our room, and a note letting us know we had a special romantic dinner waiting for us.

My husband and I chose this resort based on location, positive reviews, and value. We were 100% satisfied with our stay. We enjoyed the food (many options for just about any palate), the pool and beach (Ignacio, Miguel, and Tony at the pool bar are treasures, and we will miss them!), and the beautiful grounds. The resort is very well taken care of -- there is always someone trimming bushes, raking seaweed off of the beach, sweeping sand from the walkways, etc.

We are already planning our return trip!

A few tips:
All of the other reviewers are right: sunbeds around the pool and the Balinese beds on the beach are reserved very early, usually by 6:30am. Sunbeds at the beach that aren't under umbrellas are a little less sought-after, and you should be able to get one until 8:30 or 9:00.

The beds in the rooms are firm, but comfortable. The pillows, however, are not comfortable at all. I brought my own from home.

Based on other reviews, I was expecting to be disappointed by the beach. I wasn't. The water isn't crystal clear because the waves churn up the sand a bit and some seaweed washes to shore, but the water is warm and a beautiful shade of blue...not quite turquoise Caribbean blue, but beautiful nonetheless. The sand is lovely, too. My husband and I walked the beach about a half mile in each direction, and the beach at Ocean Maya is by far the best.

We did not upgrade to Privilege and did not miss those features and services at all.

We stayed two weeks at Ocean Maya Royale end of February-beginning of March 2014 and we had a wonderful vacation with our friends. OCM is a very well-maintained resort with excellent food, great service and fantastic surroundings.

We stayed in a Junior suite and had including Privilege and we loved this extra service! Very comfortable sunbeds at the beach, the a la carte-breakfast and the lounge by the beach.

The main asset of the resort was the staff, they really made the stay extra enjoyable. These members made our stay something extra ordinary:

Alisandra, the concierge at Privilege service, was excellent, since the first day, in attending to our well-being during our entire stay, always with a smile and a sense of good service, even until the last day when we had a flight delay of 7 hours. She and Yuri at the front desk helped us so we could keep our room until late check-out. This really made our last day something extra.

Azusena, the waiter at the Privilege-beach, always smiling and attending! Great service!

Two waiters, who made our eating-moments something extra were Alberto and Oscar (both at La Dolce Vita). They both knows how to serve professionally with a great sense of humor and service!

We really recommend this resort for a stay in Mexico and we will come back!

I have been to a couple other resorts in the area, but this one is the best by far. Beautifully updated rooms. The beach and pool areas are well maintained, beautiful clean pool, sand and beach area. Fun entertainment during day and night. The service is wonderful!
