“Nice, Clean & Friendly”

The staff & everyone is very friendly. Location is great & they do have a very limited continental breakfast. It doesn't start till 8AM, so if you do tours, you are usually gone by then. I did get sick, but not sure if it was from their food, or somewhere else. Price is a little high for the value. If you book on their website, they charge your cc when you get there and charge a higher rate then what you get in exchange. So, you end up paying more, unless you pay in cash.

Beds were excellent, which was our priority in selecting a place.

We didn't realize there was a neat rooftop with ocean view until our last day, so check it out!

Room Tip: Other reviews I read said don't get a room facing 5th ave, so we didn't. But, I think it wo...

In April 2012 we have booked Lunata for 1 night only, as we were in transition between 2 other hotels. We liked it so much, we decided to let go of our deposit at another hotel and ended up staying at Lunata for a few weeks. Since then, we have stayed at Lunata on 2 more occasions: in June and December 2012. We love the location on the Fifth Avenida, two minutes away from the beach; their friendly staff; the great design and the character. Each room we stayed in had a balcony, we loved spending our evenings there looking down either at the Fifth Avenida or the wonderful garden in the backyard. The hotel is very clean, their staff is mostly very long term and very trustworthy. Their safe boxes in all rooms are well made and securely installed.
Thank you!

If you are going to Playa del Carmen to lay around a pool, sit all day in the hotel bar, or restrict yourself to a hotel restaurant then Lunata Hotel is not for you.
If you are going to Playa del Carmen and want a hotel to base your excursions from. Excursions such as snorkeling, diving, fishing, lying on the beach, swimming in the Caribbean, exploring Mayan ruins, shopping, and sampling the offerings of multiple cuisines then Lunata is definitely a good choice as your hotel.
Lunata Hotel is a small hotel with clean, and comfortable air conditioned rooms. It is conveniently situated on 5th avenue in Playa del Carmen. Its decor is in the style of a classic hacienda. The ocean is a 3 to 5 minute walk away. Multiple restaurants are within 5 minute walks in either direction from the entrance. 5th avenue is a pedestrian only street that is safe to walk at any time of day and is a virtual paradise for shopaholics. A 10 minute walk to the south will get you to the ferries to Cozumel.
One would be hard pressed to find a more courteous and helpful multilingual staff anywhere. They will skillfully arrange transportation and tours for you with a smile.
After being subjected to the phony atmosphere of all inclusive mega hotels I found Lunata a pleasant change of pace and I intend to go back.

Hotel staff was very accommodating as I didn't have a reservation. Room was clean. Bed linen was soft and the king size bed slightly firm. Right on 5th Avenue, the main street for shops and eateries, but my room was noiseless thanks to the double sliding glass doors. A perfect stay.

Room Tip: Garden rooms have better deck views

I come to Playa del Carmen several times a year and have stayed in resorts, condos, big hotels, boutique hotels. This is, by far, the best place and value. It is very clean, beautifully decorated, and fantastic location! I thought the bed was comfy and we had a gorgeous garden view. My only criticism is that the "complimentary continental breakfast" is dried toast and some jam....no thanks. I loved this place so much that my sweetheart and I are using it as our wedding ceremony site. This is a fantastic value and lovely place to stay!!!!

Room Tip: The "Calypso" Room was awesome!

my stay at hotel lunata was nothing short of amazing. the room had a great view of the lively 5th ave below! (with double glass doors so noise isnt an issue when you're trying to sleep!) the room was clean and huge, and a steal with the price we paid. i cannot say enough how thoroughly compassionate, helpful, and pleasant the staff are. Erika in particular was just fantastic, she was beyond helpful and sweet and such a joy to be with! we will most definitely be returning, and so will some of our friends at the rate we rave about you!!!

After arriving in Playa del Carmen to what was a terribly disappointing hotel (Hotel Cielo) we were walking to dinner on our first night trying to decide what we were going to do and called in to Hotel Lunata on 5th avenue to be greeted by the most lovely Fabriola who offered us a room at discount price and a tour of the hotel, after looking at the rooms we jumped at the opportunity to spend our remaining 8nights at Hotel Lu ate as opposed to our dive Hotel Cielo, we even forfeited 2 nights at the other hotel for the sake of a beautiful and clean hotel. the staff were kind enough to let us check in the following morning at 8am with full access to rooms and facilities at no extra cost! Furthermore to the above:

ROOM: room we have is very spacious, facing the courtyard with balcony, two twin beds and beautiful bathroom. Rooms are decorated beautifully as is the rest of the hotel, giving a really authentic feeling to the Mexican hotel. Housekeeping do a brilliant job which cannot be faulted. Beds are firm but I find comfortable, safe is available and room contains a fridge and kitchen sink plus tv and air conditioning. The too. Feels very safe and secure with reception open until 11 and security guard at the front gate overnight.

PRICE: if you are wanting to experience an all authentic mexican experience without the all inclusive resot deal this place is amazing! You definately get what you pay for plus a bit more and very friendly saff to go along with it. We were visiting in low season so perhaps price might be a little higher during peak but we were very happy.

LOCATION: perfectly located on 5th avenue so close to shops, restaurants and beaches, they also provide free chairs and discounts at two of the beach resorts just down the road (both of which are really lovely with comfortable chairs, kind wait staff and beautiful views.)

BREAKFAST: breakfast was included in the price and is held downstairs under a cute little hut, everyone sits at a big table and is a great opportunity to meet people and share tips on places to go. Breakfast includes fresh fruit plate (cut and prepared when you arrive) fresh juice, toast and cereal, tea and coffee, perfect for the hot weather and an added bonus.

PARKING: we did not have a car so are unsure.

RESAURANT: hotel does not have taurant, however there are several restaurans next door which offer a and of food.

Overall, we loved this place, the location, hotel and mostly the staff made the experience amazing, it made our trip unforgettable and authentic, would holy recommend.

Room Tip: From recommendations rooms at the back are quieter, but rooms at the front is great for people watch...
