“Very pleased”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 March 2012

Four of us were here for 4 nights, first time in Playa del Carmen. The rooms were simple, clean and quiet. Location is excellent, and construction noise only bothersome if you're sitting by the pool. The pool is smaller than it looks in the photos, not a major drawback. The front desk is extremely helpful with everything: arranging pick up at Cancun airport, suggesting restaurants, massage places. Breakfasts were delightful, and egg dishes cost extra, but still very reasonable. The wait staff is Argentinian and charming.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms which face the street

I have traveled to Playa Del Carmen 6 times and have stayed at different boutique hotels every time.
During February of 2012 I stayed at the Riviera Del Sol for 9 nights. I had pre visited this hotel and reserved Master Suite 201.

Check in was smooth and effortless with the assistance of the wonderful front desk Staff. The room was beautiful and clean with ample space and TWO balconies, one overlooking the pool and one overlooking 1st avenue and Calle 28 which goes straight down to MAmitas Beach Club which the Riviera Del Sol provides free beach chars and umbrellas at.

This hotel is beautiful and located perfectly. The staff seems to be mostly Argentinian and if these people are any indication of what Argentina is like, it must be amazing! They are SOOO nice. They truly go out of their way to make you feel at home.. From Mercedez, to Melinda to Tomas and Gabriella.. Thank you so much!

The good: Room Size, Cleanliness, Hotel Location, Breakfast, Service, Beach Club, Price

The not so good: Very firm bed. No potable water on sight. Suites 201 and 301 will suffer from a noisy 1st Avenue at night and early morning but at the same time the patio that allows the noise to penetrate the room is also great for people watching during the day, so this is a bittersweet complaint.

Suggestions to the Hotel: Bring in water coolers so guests can have access to potable water. Many of the cheaper hotels I have stayed at have this.

Thanks for making my holiday a great one!

Room Tip: Rooms on the West side will be quieter. Suites and standard rooms are very similar. Both very well a...

This was my first time staying at Riviera del Sol and it was absolutely fabulous! I've been going to Playa del Carmen for the past 12 years and have stayed in many, many different hotels and this was by far, my favorite! The rooms were wonderful, the location fabulous, the pool relaxing and the staff great! I would recommend Riviera del Sol to everyone!!

Pool is small but the beach is two blocks away and that is fine. Spent three nights here before 7 days of fly fishing in Punta Allen, Will definitely be back!

This is a lovely hotel with lots of potential, tucked away off 5th avenue, yet easily within walking distance to restaurants & beach. Seasoned traveler's (our 5th year), we enjoy the less hectic atmosphere & so decided upon Riveria del Sol. The rooms are spacious, but the bathrooms are in desperate need of updating, and threadbare towels for both bathing and beach use are inexcusable. Continental breakfast was adequate, and as others have said it's probably better to order off the menu. We did love the grounds and unique upper lobby for guests to lounge in is a special treat. This has all the makings of a great boutique hotel, just needs attention to detail.

Room Tip: Avoid ground floor facing pool - lack of privacy

We have been coming to Playa del Carmen for 13 years so we know the area well. It can be very confusing for people looking on line because often places list close to beach when in fact they are in an area south of playa del carmen called playacar, this hotel is a small 1 or 2 mexican blocks away to one of the best beaches in playa centro, Coco beach. This hotel is in the middle of great resturants, the 5th ave. strand with great shopping and fun night life. Riviera del sol offers a really nice breakfast for free and complimentary beach passes, which gives you 2 chairs free, normally about an $8 per day cost. The rooms are nice with modern mexican furnishings, good a/c and a warm atmosphere from the front desk to the nice girls that serve breakfast in the morning. Location is everything there in playa and this place has it!

My wife and I booked this boutique hotel on the recommendation of a local friend back in Colorado since their place had no vacancy. The process was simple on-line. We are somewhat of control freaks for our vacations as we get them so rarely so we did a little research. We have done the all-incl thing a few times and our last experience was on Cozumel and wasn't pleasant. We like a peaceful setting but not isolated and are somewhat adventurous - but not when it comes to sleeping! We knew nothing of Playa other than passing through on our way to Cozmel and had a mixed feeling about it but at our friends insistence and description of the 5 th ave district and beach proximity, we took a flyer. Wow are we glad we did. The hotel could not be anymore perfectly located between 5 th and Mamitas beach or about 2 min to either. Despite all the construction going on across the street which stops between 5 pm and 9 am, it is a peaceful little oasis. The staff are friendly, local, and very welcoming. The hotel itself has about 18 rooms and all have a small fridge and sink. The suites have full kitchens I am told. There is made to order breakfast each morning that they charge a modest amount for but the daily pass to Mamitas Beaach Club more than makes up for this. As well, they offer 1/2 price passes to The Gym, a new, fully equipped health club 5 min away which I used a lot while there (it rained quite a bit!). Our room was right above the little eating/bar area and we seldom heard anything. It is 1/2 a block to 5th st pedestrian district with the most amazing coffee (Au Cocao) within stumbling distance. This is a very international district and the guests spoke many languages. The central courtyard and pool is for relaxing around, not really swimming. The established tropical foliage just adds to the charm. If you are looking for a place to put your feet up amidst a very happening international scene, this is perfect. It is not Lap of Luxury but for the price, it can't be beat. We will definitely return. Bring your own pillow if you are a finicky sleeper like me!

Room Tip: Get a room away from the street to the north. Construction across the street starts 830-9 am
