“Sunset Fisherman”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2013

I just got back from Playa del Carmen with my mom and my aunt and cousins and we absolutely loved it! The staff at Sunset Fisherman's were incredible and super welcoming. It is a smaller resort with an amazing beach. Most beaches I've been to have really crowded and you have to sit back farther back on the beach but here there is all the room you could want. The pools are nice but not super huge like the bigger resorts but you trade in the size of the pool for the amazing beach. Honestly when I left I cried because I loved staying there so much and I made so many friends while I was staying there. It is a must stay if you are looking for an authentic and quaint experience.

Once again, Fisherman provided a safe, comfortable, friendly family vacation for grandparents, parents, and grandkids. The wonderful ocean beach just out the door seems almost private as there is very little passing traffic, and Fisherman's small size keeps the guests limited. The pools are small, but very kid friendly, as well as good for a quick dip when sunbathing. Sunset is in the process of upgrading all of the resort, so there was some construction activity in a nearby suite, but the newly remodeled rooms are beautiful.

We want to thank Marcial most of all for his friendly welcome each year when we arrive. We feel like special guests because of his hospitality. Although Luis is no longer the Fisherman social director, we did get a chance to visit with him at this exciting new art gallery at Plaza 5th Avenue. He is clearly missed at Fisherman, but David is working hard to keep the playful atmosphere with pool and beach volleyball, and many other daily activities.

We will keep coming back each year. Plaza del Carmen is a fun, Mexican city with lots of beautiful beaches where you can listen to music, people watch from the restaurants, view the ferry boats to and from Cozumel, see all kinds of boats and water sports right in front of you, and just generally have a wonderful vacation. Since Fisherman's Village is a very short walk to the downtown, you can decide daily whether to eat at the resort, cook in your room, or walk into Playa for your meal.

This year we decided late one evening to walk to the Sulam, a restaurant near the front gate into Playacar 1, for birthday cake and ice cream for our grandson. They have this white chocolate Mayan temple cake filled with chocolate mousse to die for. We sat on the outside porch and shared the warm summer night with our family, and truly felt blessed to be in such a wonderful place as Fisherman's Village.

Room Tip: Only a few rooms have elevator access. Most rooms have ocean view from at least some rooms.

We return to Fisherman's yearly because we love the close access to the beach/water and the privacy of the location, being in a gated, upscale residential area. The facilities are nice and comfortable. This year there were some electrical supply issues that the manager, Deanee, responded to in a timely manner. She made herself and all staff available to accommodate guests for the mild inconvenience. We were satisfied with their prompt actions. Pablo, the Sunset Members' Representative, and all concierge staff were outstanding in providing top notch service. We were especially pleased with Andy, who went out of her way to assist us with translation, getting to a doctor and also a pharmacy. Without her help, my wife may have languished in pain with medical issues but Andy's diligence got my wife back to feeling better.

We stayed at Fisherman Village from May 25th through June 1st, 2013. It was a great vacation! The facility is small, but nice. And the beach is amazing. Very beautiful and an easy walk into town. The staff treated us extremely well and we made a few new friends in Alberto, Jorge, Sairy and Felipe. Alberto and Jorge spent a lot of time with us at meals helping my kids work on their spanish. We really enjoyed meeting them. They made our stay memorable. We look forward to coming back to Fisherman in the coming years.

We again had a really great week at "Fishermen". The hotel, pool, and beach area is clean, very clean, and the entire staff is polite and friendly and a testament to Mexican hospitality. The best part about this hotel, and the reason we go every year, is that it's in a gated and protected community and the walking distance proximity to Playa Del Carmen restaurants, bars, and novelty shops. I need to mention the amazing pure white super fine sandy beach and warm calm shallow Caribbean waters- sure to please anyone wanting a nice beach vacation.

Room Tip: There are about 100 rooms, all are great. Beach walkers from resorts further south, on there way to...

Thank you for treating us like royalty during our visit. The ability to walk from our room to the beach was heaven. The location, staff, facilities, Spa and cuisine was excellent! We would like to especially thank Oliver, our server, for making our trip extra special per his attentive and personable service! Sincerely, Laura Simone and Hugh McShane

This hotel has he best location in all of Playa del Carmen because the breach is crystal clear and is very beautiful. Also, the 5th Avenue (place with many shops and restaurants) is very close from the hotel and we go walking/bicycling. Luis Alberto is the best waiter out there! He has a great sense of humor and always recommends the best food and drinks. However, Sunset Fishermen NEEDS an extreme makeover with the furniture, specifically the beds! It was like sleeping on rocks!
