Its been a few months since we stayed at Fisherman but needed to give credit where credit is due! Better late than never they say... We have stayed at Fisherman the last 2 years and have to say they have the BEST employees ever! Marcial, Carlos, Olivar, Sairy Basto... made our stay awesome! Always willing to take that extra effort in making things great! Its a laid back resort but the staff make it fun! The Beach is the BEST around by far and your within walking distance to 5th Ave. for great food and shopping! The Rooms are ALL very nice, clean and Beach front views. The food could be better with more options ect... but overall we LOVED it. Will be going back in April for sure!!

Room Tip: ALL Rooms are Great!!!

Our young family had a very happy vacation at Sunset Fisherman. We've been to resorts with more activities and more entertainment, but we prefer Sunset Fisherman for the genial, laidback atmosphere of a smaller resort. If you are looking for 5 Star Luxury, you are in the wrong place. What you'll find instead is a rather plain, but clean and pleasant property with somewhat dated decor/furniture. It is located inside a gated community (mostly vacation homes), just off a beautiful beach and it boasts a main infinity-style pool with two shallower toddler pools. Our family spent hours at the beach to the pool and back again, with breaks for food and naps. The pace of life was just right for us.

My best tip is to decline the all-inclusive option and to make your own meals. Breakfast and lunch are easy to make yourself, then try the local restaurants for dinner. It's a good way to save some money and to keep the pounds off. Walmart/Mega or local shops are a quick cab ride away. (70 pesos for a ride into town).

My biggest caveat when it comes to this property is that the Sunset Group is a time-share company. Be wary of any offers for "free" tours. It will inevitably involve hours of sales meetings when you'd rather be poolside. If you are firm and clear about your disinterest in time-share ownership, they will generally leave you to enjoy your vacation in comfort and peace.

We had an ocean-facing, two-bedroom suite, three bathrooms. This suite was on the third floor (two flights up - no elevator). First floor. Kitchen, living room/dining room, bathroom with shower. Large ocean facing balcony. Second floor. Large bedroom with jacuzzi tub, oceanfacing balcony, ensuite bathroom (tub/shower combo). Smaller bedroom faced the park, two queen beds with ensuite bathroom (shower).

Small kitchen equipped with toaster, coffee maker, blender (?!), fridge, stove/oven, microwave. Glasses, coffee cups, dishes, utensils, pots and pans. If you plan to make our own meals, I suggest bringing oil, salt, pepper, rubbermaid/ziploc, etc from home to avoid having to buy it locally (and throw out when you leave).

TVs were dated. Maybe from the 1990s. Small, but serviceable.

Overall, a very good experience.

We just returned from a 2 week trip to Playa del Carmen where we stayed at the Fishermen's.......love it!! We've been coming since 2007. We love the fact that it is a small resort where the staff knows you by name. The staff is friendly and always there to help........thank you Marcelo for ALWAYS being there to help with our luggage and groceries....for "new guy" Jorge, the waiter, thanks for your attention and kindness. The staff gives it their best!!!!!

Excellent beach and nice staff. We have an overall great experience in this small resort. Chef Betsy accommodated my gluten-free diet every day. She really made a difference for our vacations. Waiters Benjamin was very helpful and kind as well. This resort is within walking distance of Playa del Carmen. They were renewing a few rooms that definitely needed some improvement.

Room Tip: most rooms look at the beach

Friendly staff. Thanks David for taking the time to take me sailing. This is a small resort and I would probably not get the all inclusive again as we left and explored Playa many times. Breakfasts were always good. Not a party resort. But a good time none the less. Sad to be leaving

My wife and I have been coming here for the past 4 years. Twice we have brought my Son and his family with 2 little boys. Our grandsons love it here! From the time they get out of the Shuttle Van from the airport, they have a smile on their face! All of the staff work very hard to make sure you and your family are having a good time. Our waiter Alejando, went out of his way to help us learn more about the Mexican History, and helped us improve our Spanish. We looked forward to seeing him every day. We also enjoy working with David Gerardo the Actives person. We have gotten to know him well in the past 2 years. Yes, the beach is GREAT, and the rooms are nice, but it is the STAFF that keeps us coming back year after year.

Room Tip: We prefer the rooms on the 1st Floor when we have children, or you can ask for rooms that have eleva...
