“Had a great time - like a second honeymoon”

Wife and I greatly enjoyed our week here. Beach was a little disappointing and the water was too rough but if you just want to sit around at the beach not bad. Pool was excellent and the service there for lunch and drinks were outstanding. Shows were a mix some good and some ok. The Mayan show and Mexican shows (with a excellent Mexican buffet at pool side in the evening) were good. Las Vegas show was just ok as well as the hynotist show. We experienced all the restuarants and our favorite was Portofino (ate there 3 nights we enjoyed it so much). The Asian and Oceana ones were also very good but the Seaside Grill and Steakhouse were just ok. Service throughout the hotel and rooms were outstanding as well as the drinks. The breakfast buffet was great and so was the lunch buffet. Don't plan on spending too much time in Playa as it was the same type of stores over and over. Wife enjoyed the spa very much. Took two side trips the the Mayan ruins which were well worth it. You do have to "reserve" your pool chairs by at least 7 AM as people have them all staked out by then for the day.

We were there for 8 days for our wedding and had 18 family members attending. The service there was always first class and not one of our guests had one complaint in regards to food, drinks, housekeeping, or any other area. If you want to be pampered, this is the place to go. We almost always did tip extra, we did not feel pressured into it; but felt the service was worth it. Look for Alex on the beach, he will get you drinks and food on the beach all day long with a smile on his face. Spa is also amazing! Only downfall is the beach is really not for swimming, and no real snorkeling in the immediate area.

Our stay at Secrets Capri was great - very polite and immediate service, spacious and comfortable rooms, good food, great drinks, and wonderful atmosphere. The rooms: great decor, comfortable bed, and yes, the bathrooms are most likely less private than what you have at home, but it didn't bother us. The food: hit or miss. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast buffet, the beach front cafe, oceana, and the hibachi grill (our favorite by far). We also ate at the italian and seafood grill restaurant, and although still good, we felt they were not above what you could get at a chain restaurant back in the states. The service, though, was outstanding. Drinks: wonderful. The pool bar is where it's at - great bartenders, and lots of tasty mixed and blended drinks. We didn't do the spa, but heard rave reviews from other guests. When we wanted to make a reservation for the hibachi grill, we just stopped by one of the desks in the lobby. The pool was absolutely spotless, but a little chilly, so it took some getting used to. The only complaint we had was that room cleanliness and room service was not consistent. Day to day the room would be cleaned, but it would be different each time (mini-bar not restocked or stocked differently, no water, towels, etc). That said, it was still easy to call and get whatever we needed quickly. We ordered room service twice, and the first experience was good. We then ordered room service for breakfast, and it took almost an hour - wouldn't have been a problem, but we had to leave for our flight home, and the breakfast buffet didn't open until a later time. We didn't do any excursions, but did use the hotel shuttle to go into Playa Del Carmen for a night. Good shopping, though be prepared for some heckling. Had drinks at Senor Frogs which was a lot of fun. All in all, I'd give our stay a solid B+.

Having never stayed at an All-Inclusive before, aside from a Cruise, haven't much to compare our stay to.
The service was not 5 star, but found it to be very good. Most staff were genuinely happy to help. And did so with a bit of personality. There was one morning that we had to ask for cofffee at breakfast 5 times, but I suppose these things happen. Overall, quite pleased with service, as other reviewers have mentioned.
The food was good. I did find inconsistancies in repeat orders throughout the stay and by the end of our 5 night's, was a little sick of our options. Breakfast (@ La Riviera) was always good. Lunch, usually eaten outside due to attire regulations(@ Taco Bar), definatley grew tiresome -but the Fish Tacos were great ,as were the Ceviche options. And great Guacamole to nosh on. Dinners were pretty creative for an all-inclusive resort...best being at Himitsu(Japanese) and Oceana (seafood)....The Seaside Grill was good for breakfast but quite displeased with steaks at dinner. Portifino (Italian) started out fabulous, but then entrees left a bit to be desired. (First thing we did when we landed back in NY was place a To-Go order at a local pizzeria)
We found the rooms to be quite nice....can't agree with other reviews about bed discomfort, great balcony with nice views, robes/slippers, and very nice bathrooms. And the staff was always happy to replenish my Pringles stash.
Entertainment (poolside)was not overbearing, as is on a Cruise...you could get away from if desired. We only ventured off premises twice...once to Playa Del Carmen, which I was pleasantly surprised by...not your typical downtown Straw Market feel. Upscale, nice boutiques and plenty of ethnic dining options. And secondly, did an ATV tour of the Jungle with a Cenote visit. Prepare to get dirty and dusty if you go, and need good wrap around sunglasses to keep the dirt from your eyes. Nightly, I did enjoy the Havana Bar, (with the exception of Karaoke Night), particularly -a fantastic duo of guitarists who did spot on covers of various well known Alternative/Rock artists. Very talented.
The beach cannot compare to majority of my other Caribbean ventures. Having traveled in winter (windy) season, the water was a bit churned up, lacking clarity. And hidden beneath, were all sorts of rocks/shells of pretty decent size, smashing into your ankles with undertow. I imagine, once you got past, there was soft sand beyond, but can only assume. The chairs and shade offered on beachside were nice though..very relaxing...and wait staff always attentive. Sand here was soft and constantly cleaned.
Overall, I enjoyed myself, and did quite a bit of needed relaxing. I will mention to those who have difficulty getting around, plan on climbing a lot of stairs, or walk well out of your way to avoid. I tried an All-Inclusive resort, but shall leave it at that. I much prefer low key, private vacationing, and this trip has affirmed this fact. Though, I think I made the perfect choice to "test the waters", so to speak.

Just returned to cold Kentucky from a week at Secrets Capri March 16-21. We booked the trip through Sharon at www.faredeals.com of Maryland - great price and excellent service from the travel agent - I highly recommend them.

This is my 4th stay at an all-inclusive and, as always, there are positives and negatives to them all. However, our overall experience at Secrets Capri was mostly excellent. This resort is small compared to other AI's I've visited and I enjoyed the intimate feeling (and not having to walk 2 miles to get to everything!). Check-in was wonderful - champagne and warm towels on arrival and check-in occurs with your own personal concierge at your room. And, there is a bottle of champagne iced in the room waiting for you!

There is only 1 pool. It is quite large, but I still prefer a choice of pools. The hotel brochure states 1 side of the pool is heated and the other is not. In my opinion, both sides of the pool were cold. We aren't early risers and sometimes had trouble getting lounge chairs at the pool even though the hotel clearly wasn't full.

We stayed in Room 152 which had a poor view of the resort next door which was not very well kept. I didn't pay for a room upgrade or ocean view because we're never in the room and don't really care about the room location so this was not a big deal to us. The bathroom is wonderful, all marble and quite large with a double vanity, large glass door shower and jacuzzi tub. The room itself was nice but the furniture was slightly worn and outdated. It has a nice, big, comfortable king bed. We tipped housekeeping daily and the room was kept clean but mini-bar restocking was inconsistent.

The beach conditions change daily in this area of Mexico, which is not the hotel's fault. One day, there was a lot of seaweed with huge waves and red-flag conditions. The next day the waves were calm and the water was crystal blue. The resort does of good job of keeping their section of beach clean and seaweed-free. However, don't walk north of the resort, it's nasty up there. And, south has pretty beach and water, but lots of trash. It's sad we've let our oceans and beaches get so trashy... but I digress. And, that's not Secret's fault. There were plenty of beach chairs and shade huts and the food/drink service on the beach was good.

The staff is excellent... every one of them. We didn't encounter a single employee that didn't go out of their way to be courteous and helpful. We usually tip a little, but it clearly was not expected.

And, finally, the food. In a word... excellent. For an AI, the food at Secrets Capri was light-years ahead of anything I've had at other AI's. We loved not having to make reservations for the restaurants and we never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seated.

A final note about the area. We don't usually venture out much when we stay at an all-inclusive. However, I highly recommend a day-trip to Xel-Ha - this eco-water-park was unlike anything we've ever experienced. And, we also had an enjoyable day in Playa shopping and taking the ferry over to Cozumel to do some sightseeing and shopping.

All-in-all, a few things I would change, but still highly recommended. GO... ENJOY... :)

We chose this resort largely based on reviews posted here and agree with most of the positive comments concerning the food and service. Also, the rooms are gorgeous.

The check in was fantastic. Greeted at the door with a glass of champagne and hot washcloths. We were also given a coupon for a complimentary hydrotherapy session at the spa. It was really really nice and relaxing, and recommend that people take advantage of this treatment. The spa is gorgeous, and just walking in to the space felt relaxing.

Despite all of the positive comments, there are a few areas of concern which I will post for others to consider, since this resort is deemed to be a five star. The gym is very make shift; unpainted drywall with just a few machines, and no disinfectant in sight to clean the equipment. There is no attendant. Most of the circuit training equipment is for men. The resort surprisingly lacks a quiet side for guests who do not want to hear muzak blasted all day. Having been at other hotels on the Mayan Riviera over the years, we are used to seeing sections that are referred to as the "spa side" or "quiet side" and have an infinity pool and a jacuzzi. This resort needs to create a "quiet side" where guests can hang out without being forced to listen to loud shopping mall type muzak all day (seemed like the same tape played every day). Since there is only one pool, most of the guests congregate there and after breakfast, the canned music starts and plays into the night, and there is nowhere in the pool area to escape the noise. Depending where you are sitting on the beach, the muzak spills over, and there were many days where a live band performed at poolside.

The yoga/Pilates instructors are excellent, top notch, but there is no facility for them to hold classes, so they hold them on the lawn in front of the pool. The instructors had to compete with the music so it was really hard to hear them. At times it was very windy, which is obviously no fault of the resort, but it made it even harder to hear the instructor at the front of the class, but you could hear the conversations of those pool guests sitting inches away from the classes. Plus the lawn is bumpy and sloped in places, and no protection from the sun. You could also smell what seemed to be pesticide.

When the water aerobics class was held every afternoon, loud speakers were set up on the pool bar and the music cranked so loud at times that it was distorted and the bass reverberation carried all the way to the beach. There is also target shooting on the beach, which is a fun activity, but it is right next to the massage hut, and that is also where the beach volleyball and bungee trampoline activities take place. The North side of the beach is adjacent to the jet ski rental, so you hear a lot of jet skis coming and going if you sit there.

The target shooting/trampoline area is very make shift and looks kinda junky. Since the massage hut is already there, the resort should consider building a proper yoga palapa and a "quiet" jacuzzi and small pool there, and either move or get rid of the target shooting/trampoline,. They were hardly used anyway, and if this resort wants to attract guests to use its new spa, then they should create a quiet relaxation area. There were few people at the spa, and unlike most resorts/hotels, guests could not sit in the relaxation area there without purchasing a treatment.

We had also read many posts on this site about tipping. We tipped the housekeeper each day, yet the service was sporadic at times. The service at Portofino was superb and we tipped, as those guys definitely deserved it. We also tipped at other restaurants, but the service at Portofino stood out.

While the ocean floor was a bit slippery when you waded in, it was a beautifully warm temperature and did not find the beach too bad at all. Walking south along the shore, there were many nice places to walk, but also a lot of garbage washed up on shore further south, mainly plastic bottles. Very sad to see.

Overall, we enjoyed ourselves, but definitely would have been more relaxing at times if the music had been turned off for periods of time, or even turned down.

With the exception of not paying for drinks and not one member of the staff expecting any type of gratuity, you would never know that Secrets Capri on the Riviera Maya is an all-inclusive resort. The grounds are lovely, the rooms are beautifully appointed with full canopy beds, marble "double sink" baths with jacuzzi tubs that easily fit two, and large patios with views of the ocean, pool or gardens. There are five restaurants with a variety of cuisines, plus a huge breakfast buffet and 24 hour room service that is ready to accomodate any desire or taste, from a continental breakfast to a steak dinner to a pizza at 3AM. The staff is courteous, totally attentive and anxious to provide whatever services you may request. The new spa is a lovely mix of white stucco and earth tones offering a diverse menue of massages and treatments, including a refreshing hydrotherapy circuit. We will most definitely be back!!
