“Loved this place and plan to come back!!”

We are definitely coming back to this charming hotel next time we come to Playa del Carmen. We loved it. The bar was fantastic, the pool was great, the staff were great, the resident cats were nice to have around as my husband and I are both animal lovers. And we absolutely loved that it was so near to everything we could need. It was walking distance to nearly everything.

The hotel room was super cute and the the safety deposit box was actually larger than we had anticipated and it was nice to have that additional peace of mind. The pool was really nice and we pretty much had it to ourselves many days/evenings. It was just nice to have that option.

So... there's gotta be something wrong, you may think!..Well, we did have an issue with the hot water not working for the first couple of days (we thought maybe there was no such thing as hot water in hot Mexico!), but once we brought it up with the hotel staff, they took care of it right away. And the only other bad thing was that the AC unit was near and over the bed. And while it didn't bother me too much, my husband has tinnitus and he complained that the AC was too loud and made his ears ring. So if and when we do come back, we may book a different room.

On our last day, my husband had accidentally left his cell phone in the room and we thought for sure it was a gonner. But a couple of hours after we arrived back home in the states, we got an e-mail from the owners letting us know that their maids had found it and turned it in. Talk about honesty and integrity! We got really lucky because they were coming out to California that same week and told us that they would just mail it to us from there. So we did get our cell phone back and think that it was just really great what they did for us. Thank you!

Definitely coming back and staying at the Luna Blue :)

We didn't want to stay in a big resort; Luna Blue was exactly what we were looking for. The hotel is small, quiet, cute, and comfortable, and the staff was so friendly and helpful. The little touches made us feel like this was so much more than just another hotel, and the bar and pool downstairs were relaxed and so much fun. While we were just off the blusterous 5th Ave, you wouldn't know it from the tranquility lying poolside or in a hammock on your private balcony. From loaning us beach towels to helping us arrange day trips, the staff went overboard to make sure we had everything we needed. This just might be the best hotel in all of Playa del Carmen.

Luna Blue Hotel is a small hotel right off 5th Ave. It's very quiet and very peaceful there. Only a 1/2 a block away from 5th Ave so close enough to walk to restaurants and shops and the beach! We rented two of the Tropical Hideaway rooms which had a patio attached overlooking the garden and pool area. The rooms were very clean and very pretty and had a mini fridge and filtered water. There are in room safes available which we took advantage of and always felt very safe there. The staff was very helpful and could answer any of our questions and even set up a tour to Tulum to see the Mayan ruins for us. We were there beginning of August so it was hot and humid however the rates were extremely reasonable and less crowds so totally worth it! I would highly recommend staying at the Luna Blue Hotel and I look forward to coming back someday. We had a wonderful, relaxing vacation!

Room Tip: The Tropical Hideaway Rooms are perfect for 1-2 people. They were very quiet and very shady. A/C wor...

Perhaps nothing fancy, but great hotel with great people and super bar a don't miss. Great location less than a block from 5th ave with bars, restaurants and shops...super value for a place right in the middle of everything and a fun experience.

After 7 years since my last visit to Playa del Carmen, our stay at the Luna Blue was consistently wonderful. We lucked out and got a Garden View Deluxe (with kitchen). This is by far my favorite room since it ample space, a gas stove, coffee maker, medium sized fridge and a kitchen sink. It truly feels like a jr. apartment thus perfect for relaxing once you had a busy day of shopping or fun under the sun. And due to the construction materials used, the room stays cool during peak daylight hours.

New amenities this time around was the pool and morning coffee & cakes. Though we didn't use the pool, the fact that we had the option was valuable. We would have liked to have real milk (vs. coffee mate) with our coffee but that is my only minor gripe.

Next time, we would consider getting more groceries from the nearby market so that we wouldn't have to 'eat out' for every meal.

Room Tip: Garden View Deluxe is great for those who want a little more space in their room and a kitchen table...

Just returned from Playa Del Carmen and was not pleased with the horrible mildew smell in the Luna Blue rooms. Actually were in 2 rooms and both were mildewie. There was black mildew on the shower curtain, and n the blender. The water bottle dispenser and air conditioners need to be sanitized as well. We went to Walmart and unloaded a whole can of lysol in the room. The maids unloaded quite a bit of pesticide in the bathroom and there were silverfish in the kitchen. Also on our last day the receptionist was late making coffee so I walked to Starbucks. Probably should have left but wee too tired as it was the tail end of the trip. However, the pool and grounds were pretty thus the 2 out of 5.

It’s always upsetting to us when a guest has an issue with his or her room. It is especially upsetting when we hear nothing about the issue until the guest has left and posted a review on the internet. There are very few problems that can’t be quickly resolved during a guest’s stay, as long as they are brought to our attention. It makes for a much nicer experience at this or any hotel if a guest informs the hotel of his dissatisfaction and gives the hotel an opportunity to address it during his vacation, not afterwards.

These guests reserved a Treetop Terrace room, which was prepared for them for their stay. They checked into that room and ten minutes later came back to the reception area and said they would prefer a larger room. Our receptionist showed them a Garden View Deluxe room, which they said they liked, and we moved their belongings to that room.

Unfortunately, our receptionist made a mistake in letting the guest checks in at that time. The room they wanted to move to had been unoccupied for a period of time. There is a lot of humidity here in the tropics, and a closed up room will become quite damp over a short period of time. This is true in all buildings in this area—hotels, houses, shops, etc. It happens in our own home. Our normal policy is that if a room has been unoccupied for more than a short time, it will be completely re-cleaned before a guest’s arrival, for this very reason.

However, in an attempt to allow the guests to settle in quickly, our receptionist failed to inform them that they would have to wait a short while before check in. He should have advised them that the room would be ready before or at 3 pm--our regular check in time--allowing our housekeeping staff time to properly prepare the room. All of the issues the guest encountered would have been remedied had this occurred, and for this we sincerely apologize. It was our error, and our staff now knows that it is to never happen again in the future.

However, in the amount of time it took the guests to make a trip to Walmart for Lysol, the room could have been readied for them, had they just notified us of their displeasure at the time.

The tropics also are home to insects of all types, which is why ours and all hotels and establishments regularly use pesticides to control them. This is a fact of life here in paradise.

Our coffee/breakfast bar is ready each day at 7:30 am. This guest came by early in the morning during her stay and asked why the coffee wasn’t yet ready, as she said she had “read somewhere” it was to be available at 6:30 am. The receptionist advised her that she was mistaken, and that everything would be ready by 7:30 am, the regular time, as it was. Luckily we are quite close to Starbucks for those very early risers that need their caffeine fix before 7:30 am.

Again, we apologize that because our regular policy wasn’t followed, this guest had a less than stellar experience. We only wish their issue had been brought to our attention while we could still make things right for them.

I have stayed at Luna Blue twice in 2014 and will definitely be back in the future. quiet, secluded and still in the centre of everything, it's like a little oasis in the middle of paradise. close to shops, the beach, restaurants and everything else that Playa del Carmen has to offer but when you step through the gates into the coolness of the shaded courtyard everything slows down and you can relax. rooms are great, not large but clean and tidy. the pool is a wonderful place to relax and cool off and the room patios and bar area are always welcoming. add to all this a great staff and fun loving owners and what else could you ask for. love it there.

Room Tip: a variety of room sizes and types are available. check the website
