“Good place, great staff!”
Reviewed 7 April 2009

Trip was 6 nights in March 2009. Decent for the price. Definitely recommend the palapa. Music each night from Hotel Fusion on the beach but it seemed to tone down by 12 or so, sometimes 1am. Some nights it was actually pretty good music!

Friendly staff with little to no English. Very clean rooms and cleaning service everyday, whether you like it or not! Decent breakfast fare. Did not use pool but it was cute. Did not use internet but was available. Very good atmosphere all around.

Would definitely recommend paying in pesos if the exchange rate is better than the 10ish pesos/US dollar that they offer. We could have saved about 75$ if we had planned on that.

You can't beat the Labnah for it's perfect location, right by the beach and 5th avenue, yet it is quiet and friendly. The rooms are basic, but clean and totally OK and as good as you are going to get for under 1000 pesos in this area. There is a small pool, but the beach is just next door anyway.

Hotel Labnah is conveniently located between 5th avenue (the main drag) and the beach (the main attraction.)

We stayed in two rooms on the top floor of the hotel with balconies overlooking the ocean a block away. The rooms were whitewashed and clean. Other rooms had balconies overlooking a small garden with a pool.

The layout of the hotel is really interesting with lots of twists and turns. Hanging plants adorn the hallways and the balconies.

A continental breakfast is included with the room.

Come to Labnah (means 'Old house') if you want to experience a bit of Mexico. The staff knows English and can communicate understandably though their choice of idiom may not be perfect standard English. The staff at the front desk were very helpful and were able to direct me to an English-language service for Christmas.

Know that you will hear music from a night club nearby until about midnight if you keep your balcony door open. I found this charming, and left the door open. Our 16-year-old daughters left their door shut and did not notice the music.

The only shortcomings in my eyes were the shower and the clothing storage. The shower was warm and spacious but demanded I be patient in washing my hair due to the lower flow of water. (no trouble washing the rest of my body.) There was hanging space for clothes but no drawer space. We made due with a couple of shelves.

  • Liked — Well priced, convenient location
  • Disliked — Lack of drawer space

Extremely friendly staff. Super clean. We tracked in sand from the beach every day, and it was always gone after the maid had done the room. Highly recommend the 'partial ocean view'. You can hear the waves from the beach. It's right next door to the Fusion Hotel, which has a great bar on the beach with very good live bands almost every night. We really enjoyed the fact that we could hear the bands from our room. The pool was being renovated, but the place is so close to the beach that it didn't really matter to us.

  • Liked — Location: Right between the beach and 5th Ave
  • Disliked — Pool under construction

Me and my husband has nothing but good words for this hotel. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly (I wish i remember his name). Room was very clean. We stayed at the 'Queen' room. Hardly any noise from the restaurant/bar across the street. Location is great! Just a short walk to both the beach and 5th ave. Breakfast each morning which consists of freshly squeezed orange juice, fruit slices, croissants and coffee/tea was an added bonus. Free use of towels that one can take to the beach is another bonus. Overall it was a very comfortable and pleasant stay for $45/night. We'll definitely come back!

Like their website says - the Hotel Labnah is nothing fancy. It is a good, basic hotel in the heart of Playa. We got the cheapest room, a Queen. But, it still had a partial ocean view! The staff at the front desk and the cleaning crew were very friendly and helpful with everything we needed. They helped arrange a rental car for us, and gave us lots of good suggestions of what to do around town. The breakfast that is included was a nice surprise. It is the same everyday, but was still a nice meal. The Queen room was definately a little noisey at night. We used our earplugs to drown out the mariachis and crowds. My biggest complaint about the Labnah is that the bed in our room was hard as a rock. It is actually fascinating that a matress company would even bother to make a matress that is that hard. I would have rather slept on the sand! We would definately go back to Labnah - but we would pay the extra cash to stay in the Palapa room which I would presume has a better bed and a kitchenette. Food in Playa is getting very expensive!

  • Liked — Cheap, breakfast included, very friendly staff, internet access
  • Disliked — Really, really hard bed, noisey

We stayed in room # 2 which had 2 dbl beds, a/c and a balcony on the bottom floor looking out towards the pool. The room was very basic, but clean. It's true there are no TVs or phones, but that wasn't a problem for us we really didn't plan to spend much time in the room.
The staff was all very nice and helpful, even though we do not speak Spanish. Although there are no safes in the room, they do have them, free of charge, at the front desk with access from 8am - 10pm. They also provide free beach towels and free internet access, which I thought was a nice bonus.
The breakfast room was very cute, it's upstairs so you can look out onto the street. They provide coffee/tea, juice, fruit and sweet rolls.
The hotel was in a great location and very close to the beach. The beach right in front of the hotel is rocky, but go down just a short way and you have nice sandy beach.
Now for the negatives: The water pressure in the shower wasn't great and the hot water didn't last too long. But, I think that is normal for small places. And it is a bit noisy, especially being on the ground floor; you could hear people coming/going at all hrs. Don't get me wrong, this didn't keep us from sleep, but I just wanted to mention it b/c some people may be light sleepers.
Overall, I liked this place and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, inexpensive hotel in a great area.
