A small old hotel. Not the cleanest, I got a horribly soiled bath towel with huge holes.if you don't mind any of that. The location was great, walking distance to the beach and 5th avenue. Away from all the clubs, if you want a good quiet night sleep. Would I stay there again, dont know!

Hello,
sad to hear you didn't enjoy our place.
We will share the comment with the cleaning staff, to improve our attention. We don't usually use towels when old or with holes, and we change them and clean every day + we have our own laundry in site.
And the Hotel is usually known to be clean (please compare with other clients' reviews).
I hope you take the time to write me an email and tell me in which aspect the Hotel looked old to you, we are here to listen, thanks!

If you're looking for something boutique (and something more local than one of those multi-floored hotels), pick Barrio Latino. Quaint and quiet, but conveniently located. The rooms are basic but neat and tastefully done up. Make sure you ask Stephano for local places to see - he is very helpful and has some good ideas!
Have only one complaint - the shower and tap in the bathroom did not have much force. But that's hardly a reason for missing out on this great place.

When my husband booked this place, I wasn't sure. Not because I knew anything about the place, just because I wasn't sure if I should leave the planning of such an important trip to anyone else :)
However, it was the perfect choice. Where do I start? I have to mention Stefano. The first person/staff we met on arrival. He knew us by name already as he was expecting us. Very friendly welcome and he proved to be an invaluable asset through out the trip.
Then we stepped past reception to find our room and I loved immediately. The environs; the garden in front of the room; the hammock in the porch area of the room...I have to add that we got a budget room so haven knows what the other rooms were like.
There's an authentic feel to the decor and the furniture of the place.
We didn't want a plastic five star resort or hotel. This was just right. It felt like we were in our own place for the period we here (11 nights).
I think another major factor is the location of the hotel. It's about 50 yards from the beach and from the main thoroughfare: 5th Avenue. It's very accessible to the coach station, the minibus terminal and lots of banks and shops.
We did a lot of trips to the various beaches around. We got a lot of help from Stefano and his colleague Marco. They were both ready with maps and advise on local food and local transport. Marco was good with how much we should expect to pay for food and trips. Stefano was good for telling us what to expect from trips we had decided to go on.
To be honest, I can't gush enough about the staff of this hotel. We had no clue what was what but we discovered so much. With advice, we went to Akumal; Tulum; Xpo-ca and the unforgettable Isla Muhares tour-highly recommended.

Another attractive point about Barrio Latino is its ethos as an Eco-hotel. This appealed to us a great deal.

There was free unlimited wifi and we could call UK land lines for free! We couldn't believe it! It was a great help and saving to keep in touch with some family members who we needed to speak to for health reasons.

On a slightly less positive note, as a lot of people have commented on, the breakfast is a bit underwhelming. For a country that is so rich in culinary delights, there's a lot more that could be done with the breakfast.

I have to say that this hotel has everything you need if you are going to explore the attractions around Riviera Maya.
We rented a car a Barrio Latino was our place for the last leg of our trip.
It´s very well located, just 2 blocks away from the beach and the 5th avenue.
It has a/c, a fan, fridge, safety box and includes breakfast.
The guys at the front desk are very nice and helpful.
Overall, a good experience, value for money, not the best mattress quality, a little noise at some point at night, but it was ok for us.
It also has free parking. Extra bonus in crowded Playa del Carmen.
However, if you are looking for a relax hotel in front of the beach with all inclusive stuff, TV and nothing else to do, this is definitely not your place in town.

I found that place base on the review that I saw and I stayed in this hotel for 8 days. Wow!!! Such a great and cozy place.
First, they are downtown. 1 block from the 5e Avenue, where everything happen. Not even 5 min walk to the beach. Plenty of restaurant in the area, for any kind of taste.
Second, the room are really clean and well kept. The area is quite and they make sure that the guest are too. No kids allowed, great. No TV, who need one anyway! Not a party place, good place to rest.
Air conditioning, safe, fridge, hammock and a comfy bed, I don't need more than that.
And a good thing about that place is they are environment friendly. They do recycle and they use biodegradable soap. Awesome!!!
And the staff is welcoming, friendly and super helpful. They sell some tour like Chichen Itza and Tulum, but they will recommend only the best for you. They are really honest about the tour that is not worth it.
Definitely a place that I recommend and that I will go back to. Good price!!!!

To put it as simply as possible, we'll be staying here when we go back to Playa. Our room was clean. The staff were helpful, friendly, and attentive. The hammock just outside the room was a great touch (perfect for waking up before my SO and getting some morning reading done. Other reviewers summed it up nicely: this is the place to go if you want to be as close as possible to the beach, 5th Avenue, and taxis/colectivos without feeling like you're stuck in the middle of a resort town.
