“Get away, met our needs”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

For years we've walked by this hotel always enjoying its look and courtyard. This we had the opportunity to try it as we had to overnight before our timeshare was ready. Bottom line, it's basic, clean, quiet and good value for the price. It met our needs. Beds were comfortable, amenities are basic and for many they would say it needs upgrading but then that would change the atmosphere. Watching people coming and going it caters to a younger crowd looking for cheaper accommodations however it was never loud. And you could sit in the courtyard, enjoy the small pool in comfort. Small restaurant and bar on site also was useful. Being less than a block from 5th Avenue you can easily take a stroll onto this busy street and people watch.
Great place I'd use it again.

Room Tip: Depends on your purpose, for longer stays I'd take a second or third floor room but your walking...

Recommendable hotel for those who don't favor the big all inclusive resorts. Feels more 'local' and the staff is friendly and helpful. Location is perfect. Nearby the lively 5th av and the beach on walking distance. Tip: ask for a room with windows as we were assigned to one without windows in the first place. We now have a great room, spaceous and with a small balcony. Breakfast is basic.

We stayed for 8 nights in February. The staff were extraordinary: helpful, friendly, and quick to help with any of our requests. They asked if we would consider moving from the first to third floor after our first night. The first floor room was fine: one queen sized bed, facing the pool, nice bathroom/shower area and a small wardrobe and safe. The new 3rd floor room had 2 queen beds, 2 room bath, dining area, fridge, and patio overlooking the street. We enjoyed our stay. The staff were helpful with suggestions for excursions, dining, and local shops to check out. We were on the EP, but has a couple of delicious breakfasts at Mr. Chilis before heading out on day long adventures. It was easy pick up and drop off right at the hotel open doors. 24 hour front desk staff was nice to have. The free wifi was intermittent but available enough while we were there that it wasn't an inconvenience. Our room and the grounds were kept spotless. I felt very safe even though it is only 1/2 block from the busiest downtown tourist street, 5th Ave, in. Playa del Carmen. A quick 2 block (less than five minute) walk to the beach.

Room Tip: They have rooms with patios facing the inner courtyard and others over look the street.

The hotel is in a great, central location, and has an attractive courtyard. Don't be fooled by pictures of the pool which is too small for a proper swim - but since it's so close to the sea it doesn't matter. The rooms are clean, unfortunately ours only had a small window and the main light didn't work - and the maintenance man wasn't able to fix it. (We were offered a change of room.) No fridge in the room although friends paying the same rate did have one. Fantastic shower with decent water pressure is a big plus point. Rooms are quiet and have air con.

Some of the staff were friendly and helpful, others not so much. Service at the bar could be very slow. The breakfast wasn't great, only a choice of two things - we ended up eating it elsewhere.

Overall then a few things that could be fixed but not bad.

We got moved to this hotel because the hotel we originally booked (who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty) has overbooked themselves. The room on the third floor was comfortable, the balcony was very nice to have for an evening glass of wine, and the location of the hotel, as others have mentioned, is great -- close to everything and not directly on 5th (i.e. you can actually go to sleep before midnight should you desire to do so). The hotel is not new, but they seem to maintain the rooms (or at least our room) in a reasonable state of repair.

There are a few minor irritations:
1. They don't give you a rug or another towel to throw on the floor in front the shower. I suppose you can ask for one, but you don't think about it until you realize just how slippery wet tile is. They don't give give was face wash-cloths either. Just ask for more towels
2. They don't have locking space to store your luggage when you need to leave it with them. They will place it behind the front desk and generally around the front desk. This would almost work if there was always someone sitting at the front desk. There is not the case.

We booked last minute and couldnt find much else available but this looked nice enough for a night. The rooms were dated but clean. Tube tv on the wall, old rusty but working AC unit, decent looking beds. The cons to our room: hole in floor of shower to ??, the water pressure was next to a trickle, hot water came sporadically for the second person only, no wifi in rooms, can see day light all of the way around the door, pool is more of a plunge pool size and had to ask for towels. But, was clean, quaint, good location downtown and price was decent. I'd stay here again in a pinch.
