I BEEN THERE 4 TIMES, SO IM GOING TO WRITE A FULL EXPERIENCE OF MY 4 STAYINGS IN THERE...
I stay in different rooms, every time
The first time i stay in the main building, it feels more like a hotel atmosphere, and since that was my first time, i lovet and enjoy it since the beginning, you are far from the beach, but you dont have to worry about it, they have bikes, golf cars and a boat to take you all the way to the beach if you dont want to walk. We enjoy our selfs in there, the room, the restaurants , all the pools, the beach club, EVERYTHING ¡¡¡
We love it that much, the we start going once a year...
THE ANOTHER 3 TIMES...
I stay in all diferent kind of rooms all over the hotel complex, we stay in different "casitas", one with garden view, another with river balcony, another near the beach...
Every time we go we get PAMPERED like royalty¡¡¡
I went in different time of the year too... feb., july, october and december, the sea is always nice the sun always is shinning, AND THE SERVICE IS SUPREME ANY TIME OF THE YEAR...
The menus in all the restaurans are very nice design, the deli has a lot of choices even the room service, ( i used it one time when i come back from tulum, i were in there in a "green hotel") so i finish my vacations on the luxury and comfort, and dont leave the first nigh the room¡¡¡
YOU CAN GO IN COUPLE OR WITH THE FAMILY
I dont need to go out, but Playa del Crmen is very near.
I always come back, always , always...

Room Tip: I love the casitas

From the Sales leadership with Mark Ginna and Marianna to the guys at the beach (Oscar, Francisco, and Alfonso), Laura the operator on the phone, Ruiz and Sergio in Valet, and Jessica at Las Brisas, this hotel provides the very best service. Everyone is always friendly, happy to serve, and extremely helpful at all times. It is obvious this Hotel focuses on training and customer experience as it's primary goal. People here in Mexico provide the best service compared to others around the world but it is especially obvious here at the Fairmont Mayakoba. If you stay here you will definitely get the complete Mayan Riviera experience.

Room Tip: Choose a suite that starts with great accommodations and then with different suite options you can accommodate various guest sizes and families to make for a very relaxing and nature rich stay. Closer to the beach the better!

I came here with a family of 19 and children ranging in ages of 1-12. We stayed here for 7 days in December of 2012.
Food - the food at this hotel is absolutely amazing! they have a wide variety of restaurants and food choices which were all delicious
Rooms - The rooms were very nice. Our view was gorgeous and the beds were so nice. The bathrooms were very pretty and the showers were really cool.
Service - The service here is impeccable! I could get anything at a tip of the hat! We became very good friends with the golf cart drivers too :)
Activities - This is where they lacked. I know this resort is not made for families with many kids and they do have a kiddie pool and one waterslide. But, sometimes that's just not enough to keep a family busy - we had to make up our own entertainment.

Overall I really looooved this fancy resort, but would not go back with my large family.

Room Tip: Try to get a room close to the Laguna Pool and Restaurant

We stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba on the advise of Friends who told us Playa del Carmen was an amazing place. Quintana Roo and the Yucatan Pennisula is way overdeveloped and contains too many hotels already. The resort is located in an area partially designated protected land which lends itself to a feeling of one being in a jungle. I will give the positives and negatives in the review:

Pros: 1) Property is absolutely beautiful and was done with a lot of foresight 2) Rooms are extremely comfortable, clean, and our room next to the beach overlooked the swamp. It was very relaxing and quiet. 3) Food for a Mexican resort is above average although the prices charged are very high for Mexico. 4) Service when the hotel is not full is excellent. Once the hotel becomes crowed or a convention comes services goes down substantially. 5) The spa at the hotel was absolutely beautiful and we had really good treatments. Again, the prices were very high for Mexico.

Cons: 1) We spent over $700.00 a night. Beware of all the surcharges the hotel charges. There is a $15.00 a day resort fee per person. To use the gym at the hotel is another $10.00 a day charge per person. A bottle of water by the pool was over $5.00 for a small bottle. The costs of suntan lotion was around $25.00 for a small bottle. 2) The beach at the hotel is almost non-existent. It is very narrow and there are no activities offered by the hotel for guest ( ie snorkeling, jet skiing, windsurfing, and any other water sports. The hotel offers just a beach chair and some shade. Additionally there you can order food which is extremely expensive. The costs for example of Pina Colada was $10.00 USD. Additionally we had difficulty on days of getting a place on the beach when the hotel was full. 3) Travel Agency in the hotel was awful. I speak Spanish and told the travel agency that we wanted to go on a beautiful snorkeling trip and to have them help us organize it. The agency sent us on a tour that was absolutely horrendous. The boat was old, the captain played Jimmy Buffet music, and the only thing we really saw was calcified coral and most of the reefs were dead. Additionally, the boat took us to another diving spot where the currents were so strong three people needed to be rescued and taken back to the boat. When I complained the general manager at the hotel told me we assumed the risk and there was nothing they could do to refund the money to us. We fought and eventually we were fully reimbursed 4) The coral reefs are substantially destroyed at and near the hotel. I spoke to some local scientist who told me that high levels of human waste do not get treated properly, a lot of other things are dumped into the water, and the massive development has destroyed a vast amount of the reefs over the last 20 years. It is really sad to see this. 5) To get around the property you need to travel in a golf cart. This can be a bit of a hassle during peak periods in the hotel and the waiting times can go up to 30 minutes at times. There are not enough carts for the hotel.

In conclusion, the resort is relaxing and we did get rest in our rooms. We felt for the amount of money we paid and what we received was not consummate to what we expected. The area where the hotel is and towards Cancun is way too overdeveloped and sadly this has caused enormous adverse environmental consequences. The beach is unremarkable and the service at the hotel was average when the hotel had a high occupancy rate. Overall for the value there are better places to go and see.

Room Tip: Try to get the rooms by the beach area. The others are more cramped together and noisy.

This Fairmont property is truly spectacular! The balance that was created between luxury and nature is truly amazing! No detail was left unattended.

We spent three nights in a casita and it was fantastic! The staff was so helpful. From the moment you arrive at the gate, you know that you have arrived at a very special resort. Once you arrive, you are given a private tour of the facility and your luggage is magically whisked away to your room while you enjoy your complimentary welcome cocktail. Thw whole check in experience is just so refined but also so simplistic.

All of the restaurants were spectacular on site and the meals were all exceptional. The meals and cocktails are expensive, but no more expensive than you would find at a five star restaurant or hotel in Boston or New York. We especially loved being taken to the Banyan Tree by the "Mayakoba Express.", a luxurious Cadillac Escalade that will take you from property to property within Mayakoba. Edy at the beach bar and Laura in the hotel bar should especially be commended for their service!

The rooms are spacious and well appointed and the bathrooms were enormous and luxurious.

I cannot say enough about this resort. Everything about it is truly amazing!

Room Tip: Spring for the upgrade to a casita! You will not be disappointed! Watch out for the Mexican Cotis (Racoon like animals) that will eat your lunch!
