We enjoyed our stay at El Faro over Christmas. Loved the location just off 5th Ave and the beach. Very close to any kind of restaurant/shopping/nightlife but still somehow quiet. The friendly concierges gave us great suggestions for local places to go (especially food). The building felt very safe and had 24 hr security staff. The condo was nicely furnished and there was just enough room for us and our two children.
A few caveats: 1) The maid service every other day was key because there was no washer/dryer in the unit and there were only 6 towels each for bath and pool. Not sure why they are so tightly rationed. 2) Same for the kitchen. All the most basic food prep stuff was there but there were nearly no food staples/spices in the cabinets (just salt and rice). We had to run the dishwasher constantly or run out of dishes and utensils. A few more pieces of tupperware would have been nice. 3) No restaurant on site (it's been closed for a while) so no poolside or beachside service. For the first few days we couldn't even get an umbrella. The beach is also tiny.
Also, if you book it, make sure to get the street address. It didn't appear on any of our reservation materials (even the driving directions!) and left our cab driver a bit confused.
On the whole a very good experience, but these minor issues were irritating given what we paid for the week over the holidays, and kept me from giving El Faro 5 stars.
