What a beautiful hotel and grounds~impeccable accomodations and the service was spot on! The staff could not have been nicer and the food was fresh and plentiful. Went with family over the Christmas holiday break-and there was something for everyone. Every time that you turned around, you saw a staff member cleaning or taking care of a guest. I cannot say enough great things about this hotel. My husband and I booked a massage at the Spa-again, clean, clean, clean-and the massage was wonderful. Highly recommend this for newlyweds, families, and singles.

Room Tip: We had an ocean view suite-but there are no "bad" rooms-as far as we could tell.

Stayed at the Riu Palace riviera Maya for our honeymoon. We had the choice between palace Mexico and riviera maya, Riu palace Riviera maya was smaller than palace Mexico but we loved it. The grounds were well kept, the walk to the pool and other amenities were not too bad, food was great and the rooms were very modern and spacious. Plus we got the rain shower which we really liked. We stayed in a superior junior suite and had a lovely balcony very close walk to the pool and beach. Nightly entertainment was not bad either. We liked the casino nights. They had 5 restaurants but we liked Krystal and the Mexican restaurant the most. Service was amazing everyone ensured that we had a great stay and always went out of their way to accommodate our requests. Will definitely go back to this place!

My husband and I just spent 9 days at the Riu Palace Maya Rivera in Playa Del Carmen.
We can't say a bad thing about this hotel. The staff is wonderful and alway smiling and going that extra mile to accommodate the guest.
The hotel is spotless, always a team of workers cleaning. The pool staff is entertaining and someone is always around asking you if they can get you a drink, never a need to leave your chaise lounge.
The hotel is within walking distance to the shops and restaurants of 5th ave. We always felt safe biking or walking into town even after sunset.
There is a lot to do if you choose to or just soak up the sun and surf. The beach is one of the most beautiful beaches I have seen with rows and rows of palm trees for shade.
Don't hesitate to book your next vacation at this hotel.
We plan on returning in the near future.

Room Tip: Most rooms don't have an ocean view because the hotel in set back. Ask for court yard view near...

I travelled to this resort with my Mother and young daughter from Sat Nov 2-9 for a week of luxury and relaxation. Having been to many, many resorts...let me tell you that this place is 5 star all the way. It caters to all ages, the rooms are beautiful (we had a Jr. Suite in the Superior section (closest to the beach with a partial ocean view) the entertainment staff is great (they don't overdo it), the food is wonderful with something for everyone and the service is absolutely impeccable. It is also located in a very safe and gated location. This resort will not disappoint you!!

I took my girlfriend here for one week for her birthday. The property is visually stunning! The staff is excellent, friendly, courteous and constantly looking to make your stay a pleasant one.
As others stated, at first glance you know that you're staying in the right place, the gated Playacar community; lovely, well manicured and modern homes.
At first glance the Riu Palace Riviera Maya is a sight to behold; spacious lobby decorated in the tradition of majestic hotels such as The Plaza, in NYC. The one thing that hits you almost immediately, however is the musty smell. I'm not saying that this is a deal-breaker by a long shot. Look, you know the area that you're in is tropical, humid all year round, and doors are usually wide open, so lets get that out of the way up front, there is a funk, especially towards the bar area of the lobby. Going outside, the lavish palm tree lined courtyard, with its several long pool-like fountains that lead up to the pool area is beautiful, and great for taking pictures.
Our Jr. Suite was exactly that; nicely designed with a sunken "living-room" like area leading to the balcony. Over the nicely stocked refrigerator was a four bottle booze dispenser (ahhh, mas tequila). We could have gotten an "upgrade to another Jr Suite with "Garden View", as our room (126) was facing the neighboring property, but we decided that since it was quiet at night, we'd be happier staying put, so we did. The room was clean, but there was a musty smell when sitting on the couch, so we avoided that (a can of Lysol would be a great idea to give to housekeeping). Best advice, keep the A.C. on at all times on high with ceiling fan on and you will be comfortable. At night (at least in November) fan off is fine.
The beach and pool area is really where the property hits it on all marks! From the well groomed sandy beach, with its palm trees, lounge chairs and hammocks to the large pool with a great swim-up bar! when the rain stopped (it was, after all, the tail end of rainy season, and it did rain quite a bit... we got our share of sun though, not to worry) this area sprung to life! Lets talk a moment about the beach in Playacar; Turquoise water, white sand and the aforementioned palm trees... just beautiful!
We went on one full day excursion to Chichen Itza to see the Mayan ruins, YOU MUST DO THIS! Yes, its a full day, they pick you up in a nice tour bus @7:30am, and you get back @8:30pm, its @2 1/2 hours each way. Well worth the trip; the tour guides where both informative and entertaining, very friendly. Mid-day you go to a Mayan village for lunch, the food was amazing! Great way to spend a day off-site.
We traveled through Apple Tours, and they have a representative (as do other agencies) in the lobby of the hotel to assist you in every way, from planing excursions to helping you keep your travel plans in order. We got a great all inclusive deal with Apple, highly recommend them!
The meals at the hotel were fine, we did the Steakhouse and the Brazilian as our "ala cart" meals and enjoyed both. The buffets are fine, not "four star", but you will find very good things to eat as you go. The service is excellent all around.
We found that the age range did lean towards an "older" demographic, but there was a good mix of 20's-60's (also keep in mind this is "off season", kids are in school).
We decided to skip the shows at night to do our own thing, but we knew the staff was working hard to keep everyone happy.
The hotels proximity to the 5th Avenue shopping area is maybe a 15-20 minute walk, a $7 (USD) taxi ride for bad weather. 5th Ave is basically what you would expect a "main street" vacation area; only a LOT more aggressive shop keepers who want you to buy their wares. You really have to be alert & aware when walking 5th Ave, you will be approached by everyone from people trying to sucker you in to a timeshare tour, to less than quality "silver" (plated) jewelry. Remember, once you make eye contact, it's your own fault....

Room Tip: Our Jr. Suite was exactly that; nicely designed with a sunken "living-room" like area lead...

I could go on and on about this place! First off, this place is amazing. Its in the gated Playacar community, only a 15 minute walk to 5th avenue. Playacar is very safe and filled with other resorts like this one.
RPRM (riu palace riviera maya) is located on the beautiful mexico Caribbean. . Turquoise clear water and soft white sand. The ocean and beach is so beautiful. Theres a nice area on the beach filled with palm trees if you're looking to stay in the shade. Theres also hammocks in that area to lounge in.
The pool is amazing. Its huge! Theres an infinity pool thats attached where we spent most of our time on our trip. Theres also a swimup bar attached to the big pool so you can get a drink anytime! Theres loungers IN the pool and also a few seating areas with tables IN the pool! Plenty of chairs/loungers around the pool in the sun and under palm trees. We never had trouble finding a seat by the pool. Theres tons of acitivitea everyday! The staff goea above and beyond to make sure you have fun. They'll do sports, water aerobics, dancing, & more in the pool! Fun music too! But they definitely don't overdo the fun loud activities. You will surelt have time to just relax, watch the participants, or join in! They have other activities during the day like yoga on the beach, soccer, volleyball, bocceball, contests, scuba diving in the pool, bingo, & much more! You'll never be bored!
The food was amaaaaazing! Every restaurant we went to we loved. We ate at agave twice, botafogo, yashima, chilis, and the dinner buffet. Everything was sooo good. We liked botafogo and agave the most! Chilis buffet for lunch everyday with an ocean view! Pizza, meats, pasta, mexican food, sandwiches, soup, and soo much more! Tons of dessert too! We ate at the breakfast buffet everyday, so delicious! Eggs, sandwhiches, bagels, breads, muffins, croissants, churros, fruit, yogurt, cereal, bacon, sausage... everything you could think of! All the food at RPRM was so yummy. We got room service a couple times - nachos (our fav), chicken tostadas, club sandwhich, & raspberry cheesecake is what we tried. So good!
Drinks were so yummy. I tried every fruity frozen drink they had except for the mojito. The costa caribe was my favorite! They werent very strong though because theyre premixed, so you may want to ask for a double (and give them a tip!) We tipped everyday for drinks and dinner. . They appreciate it!
The staff was unbelievable. Such hard working people! They didn't stop once all day long. Always cleaning, giving you a new drink, and being funny, polite, and friendly! Such a great group of people there. Our favorite bartenders were Ciro and Oscar.. and the girl at the sports bar (dont remember her name). They were all wonderful people! Very accomodating and friendly! They make you feel comfortable and are always making sure you have everything you need.
The rooms are nice. Nothing absolutely spectacular but they were clean and pretty. Nice king size bed - sheets and blankets could be a little more comfy. Nice tv, laptop sized safe, minibar stocked with water, pop, dos equis, and club soda. Also the liquor dispenser that they restock if you need it! Bathroom is big and the shower is nice. Our view wasnt spectacular either. Im pretty sure you only can see the ocean if you get the highest price room (jacuzzi suite) . However, our view qas still nice. Courtyard view.. so we had palm trees, beautiful shrubbery, flowers, fountains in our view. We could also see the pool and the plaza where they llayed music nightly. Nice sized balcony with two chairs and a table.
Our first day, we checked into room 1021. Its technically the second floor up but the same floor as the lobby. We noticed a lot of water on the ground by the sink/toilet. So we called and they sent someone up. He looked around and said he'd be back to fix it. When we came back from lunch the water was still all over the place so we knew no one came up. So we wiped it up and called again. They said they'd send someone up. After dinner, we noticed water on the ground again, after we wiped it. So we called once more and explained that this was the 3rd time we called and the guy never came back to fix it. Without even having to complain or ask for a new room, they told us theyd give us an upgraded room for no extra charge for the inconvenience. We then got moved to room 1056 (the one with the view I described above). The room was the same besides the view. The view in 1021 was facing the garden.. nothing amazing.. and also facing the top of some other building (not pretty and had an annoying buzzing sound) . We were very hapoy with the room change since the view was much nicer.
Overall, this hotel is amazing. I would definitely recommend it to anyone of any age and I would definitely go back! The riu palace outdoes itself!

We had 55 guests. Beach ceremony which was beautiful. The reception was at Chillies. Amazing food and service. I can't complain about anything and I'm a tough cookie. Favi was incredible and I would highly recommend her to anyone planning a destination wedding. We were a crowd of ages ranging from 19-60 and it was so much fun. Awesome time.
