First of all, let me say that this is our kind of hotel: Simple, clean, well located and nice staff .
We stayed here for the first 3 nights of our honeymoon, on the way to Cozumel and Cancun.
I general we liked the hotel very much.
Very well located. The hotel is on 15th, so 2 blocs from 5th street (pedestrian shopping street) and 3 blocks from the beach.
our room had a mini fridge, fan, air conditioner but no TV (which was great for us)
Depending on the room you are staying you might get a free ticket to mamitas beach club, ours didn't give one for free but the hotel sold tickets for 2 loungers and shade for a better price than at the beach itself. Since we went to mamitas only once (it's worth going) there was no reason to pay more for a room just to get the free tickets.
Actually, the entrance to Mamitas is free. What you pay is for the rent of the loungers, beach beds , shades, etc.
The room was ground floor and we didn't hear any noise from the street. Bed was nice and it was very easy to sleep after a day touring Tulum and Coba
We used the travel agency to book the excursion to the ruins, price was fair and service very nice
There was one thing we really didn't like and that's the reason I didn't 5 stars, the breakfast . though it's just a continental breakfast, so you expect something simple, there was actually just toast, cereal, cake and some fruit included. One day my wife had a Banana and also wanted a grapefruit but the employee said the second fruit would cost an extra dollar. Eggs and Omelet ware great but cost an extra US$ 5.00,
I guess it should be so hard to add some different types of breads and include some ham, cheese and even eggs as a courtesy

There is no doubt this has been by far my very first time I was really treated like I have never experienced before. Being used to leisure hotels resort destinations in Europe and Middel East whereby someone is always trying to take advantage of you, the staff of this hotel has never made me feel away from home and really applied a personalized touch that is hard to be found elsewhere. From the morning breakfast served in their very cozy lounge, to the useful suggestions that complemented my stay in Playa del carmen, I do not see any reason why I should not go back with my friends soon. Furthermore the hotel is very well located and enjoy discounts with the services of the beach club. They organized everything for me through their concierge agency, from transfer to the archaeological sites visit, adventure tours and air ticket reconfirmation and I compared the prices with what the market is offering over there. No risk of getting overcharged, moreover, their personal word to make things happen in the right way. Keep it up guys, you can't fail!

For those of us baby boomers who remember being sensitive flower children Hotel Play del Karma really suited us. The mature greenery of the courtyard had the serenity and grace of years of wise existence; of course we could relate! The patter of raindrops on the thatched roof of the room reminded us that we were in a beautiful tropical climate. It was a charming effect that would have been absent had we stayed in a concrete & glass megalith. We thoroughly enjoyed the ambience here.
The breakfasts above the garden were special.

We stayed here the night before we were to fly home out of Cancun because this was one of the few hotels in Playa del Carmen that would accept a single night's stay. The location of this hotel is fantastic - it is a 5 minute walk to 5th street - the major shopping/eating/tourist area. There is no dedicated parking, but we found street parking fairly easily. The hotel is attractive, with a central, beautifully landscaped little courtyard containing an immaculate but tiny little bathing pool and a couple of reading chairs. The staff were great too - very welcoming. Our room, however, was not as nice - it was very small (barely bigger than the king sized bed it contained), dark, and damp - very musty even with the windows open and the fan running. A bigger issue however was the street noise at night - the rooms are thatched roof style and contain a set of open spaces under the rafters for ventilation. These can't be closed and, on a Saturday night, the noise from the traffic, from people heading home after a night out, from a bunch of barking dogs in the alley out back, and from a loud Rave that set up somewhere near the hotel between 2-5am, meant my husband and I were pretty bleary by sun-up. This hotel would be fine if you plan to sleep on the beach during the day, but probably not great if you want a restful respite. We would not stay here again if traveling to Playa del Carmen.

Dears, you and us were particularly unlucky considering you stayed with us only one night. Indeed you're right about the fact that on that particular saturday night there was just too much going on in Playa The party at Coco Bongo and the particularly long week end due to a national holiday made us remember this date. The whole of Playa del Carmen was just full of events and people everywhere and weather just not as good as it inormally is in this time of the year. Unlike what normally happens around here we give the chance to our guests to stay with us only for one night if they wish, thus giving them maximum freedom and lots of flexibility. We are just sorry that this event has caused an inconvenience to some people that on normal circumstances seem to enjoy the tranquility of our grounds and the beauty this destination has to offer. The comment about the room maybe was just not matching your expectation but, as a matter of fact we understand it is just difficult to get everyone agreeing on an ethnic concept of structure and hospitality that has definitely its pros and cons. We would be very glad if you could give us a second chance to prove that this was indeed an unlucky circumstance or maybe just a dull day. You could be our guest either at our Hotel Playa del Karma or Hacienda Paradise that we have recently taken over. Our staff will take care of the rest. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with others. Whether positive or less, it is indeed our wish that people talk about us. Giuseppe Crapanzano.

a hidden treasure nestled in bustling Playa del Carmen is the Hotel Playa Del Karma. The clever tongue-in-cheek name is just where the fun starts. Everything here has been laid out to give their guests the most relaxing and peaceful surroundings along with the convenience of a walk of only a block or two from all the excitement and shopping.

A small pool is complemented by a waterfall lulling you into complete relaxation--staying awake is the only challenge you will face! The rooms are immaculately clean with peaked, thatched roofs and the general ambiance of a cabana on the beach. Yet, the amenities are first rate and, unlike many such hotels in the area, the hot water really IS!

.But over and above all else is the attentiveness of their staff, particularly Carina who is perhaps the most excellent hotel staff person I have ever seen...constantly making sure each and every guest is happy and well cared for.

If you're looking for a comfortable, relaxing, lovely hotel just a stone's throw from the action in Playa del Carmen--this is it. So close, yet so far...once you enter this lovely paradise you cannot believe you are so close to all the bustle because you feel instantly that you're on a secluded beach. An AWESOME place to stay.

Well there are so many reviews and photos on here I don't have a lot else to say, but I just wanted to add my two cents because I enjoyed my stay here so much. This hotel is extremely clean. My husband and I had a king-sized bed and a bungalow that had two levels - the upstairs had an additional two beds! The style here is very unusual and cool. We liked to just hang out by the plunge pool and drink coffee/tea when we were tired of the beach. They also offer free breakfast in the morning and free internet which is nice. This hotel is very centrally located and an easy walk to beach, nightlife, etc. and most of the rooms have outdoor hammocks that you can use (ours did not because we had the larger "house").

The only weird thing I will say is our "house" was directly next to the kitchen and dining area, so in the morning it was basically like we were sleeping IN the kitchen. This wouldn't have been so bad except we chose to sleep with the windows open (all the rooms do have A/C but we didn't use ours) and so the smells/noises of breakfast were quite strong. Again, I don't want to say that the hotel is noisy (it is quite the opposite) but out of all the rooms in the hotel, ours is the only one that would have this problem because of where it was located, and I wouldn't have even noticed if we had been using our A/C. So you may want to request that you not have the room located next to the breakfast dining area/kitchen. It didn't bother me that much, but it was kind of weird.

The other thing is, we had a little bit of a hard time finding this hotel (I don't know why, because it is very central as I said) and NONE of the locals had heard of it. Anyone on the street that we asked mistakenly thought we just kept saying "Playa del Carmen" wrong. So that was a bit frustrating. If you are going to be walking here (as we did) from the ferry port, make sure you have a good map or know where you are going because it seems like the locals aren't that familar with the name of this place. It is sort of near Coco Bongo's if that helps at all.

We booked this hotel after googling for a while. Finally stumbled onto this hotel. The pictures looked nice, cosy atmosphere so we booked. Obviously one doesn`t really know untill u get there, but after a long journey coming from Belgium via USA, we immediately had a good feeling about this place. The reception at the hotel was great and we quickly checked in. The pictures we saw on the internet did justice to the real deal and even better. A cosy, Mayan style bungalow. After hitting the city that night, ( 2 minute walk to the busy main shopping road and bar area and 1 minute further to the beach) a good night sleep and waking up with birds singing,we enjoyed a really nice breakfast on the terrace underneath the palm trees, where we had a fresh made omelet and a nice cup of coffee. In the days following it was always nice to go back to the hotel after a busy day. What really made this stay different, is that every day one of the staff members came by during breakfast for a little chat. Not pushy at all, just wondering how we where doing and if they could help us in any way, tips on trips, shopping, anything... We used the travel agent in the hotel quite frequently and booked every hotel through them (ask for Antonello) when going on our road trip with a rental car. Before leaving on this trip we booked our remaining couple of nights we had after the trip in this hotel and tired as we were it was really something to look forward to. Travelled quite a bit all over and believe me if I say you won`t regret it! If you are not into big 5-star, all-inclusive beach resorts, this is definitely the place to be. Enjoy your stay! If you have any more questions about this hotel and maybe the road trip we did, don`t hesitate to email us ([-]). Kind regards, Ruud and Levonne (Netherlands).
