Upon our arrival we were given a room according to our previous requests when booking the our trip. The room was very clean, lost of space, could be better furnished but overall it was ok. We had a problem with the shower which we reported to the front desk, they immediately sent someone to install a new shower!! The staff was very helpful always......The hotel has a great beach club just a few blocks away from the hotel, it also has complimentary parking a block away, which is very useful if you rent a car. The location is terrific, although it is located near some nightclubs, the rooms are very quiet. We had a great time in PDC and at the Magic Blue, will definitely recommend this Hotel.

This hotel is amazing. It's like a lush blue and green oasis that's absolutely lovely in the day or night. The pool was great, as were the trendy rooms with comfy beds and wonderful showers. The hammock on our balcony was my boyfriend's favorite part. The staff was lovely and attentive, the food was great, and although there was one night where we could hear the music from the Coco Bongo, it didn't ruin our experience at all. It's only a few min walk from the beach, and a steal for the price. I would recommend this to couples wanting to get off the beaten path a bit while still being minutes away from all of the action.

We stayed at Magic Blue Hotel for a relaxing break, the rooms were located away from the main reception the set up was more motel than hotel. The breakfast was next door in another place - a bit disjointed! Bathroom was very small, but lovely swimming pool - we didnt spend much time at the hotel as there was a lack of atmosphere. Ok hotel, but I would maybe explore other options next time I visit.

is my third time at the hotel and I like it more every day!
The service and attention are great. The hotel is always amazingly clean.
The location is great, just one block from the famous Fifth Avenue, great place to walk to eat or drink a "Coronita" beer in the afternoon.
Do not miss this hotel, will not be disappointed

After reading a number of reviews on this website before going to Magic Blue I decided to email them and request a ground floor room. When I arrived at the hotel with my husband wer had indeed been given a ground floor room. The room was large, spacious (lovely bed) and had an awesome rain shower! It was clean and cleaned every day thereafter (at times the rooms are cleaned quite late in the day). The pool, although small, is clean and a real joy to swim in. I loved the sunbeds that were built into the pool itself! Very cool! No need to brings towels with you as they are ´provided at the pool and for the beach. The beach club is OK although the staff here are not very friendly!
The location of the hotel could be better. It is a bit near to a large disco and not that close to the beach but if you have a down stairs room you are not really disturbed much. The breakfast is served at an Brazilian restaurant next door and is lovely, as are the waiters. You have a great choice of eggs everyday! The hotel is very pretty with lovely gardens and good staff.

Magic Blue was the perfect fit for our group, great location just off all the commotion, it is a super little get away. The rooms are spacious, the showers are open and large with great water pressure. The porches & balconies have super hammocks that add a sweet bohemian charm, not to mention a nice spot to take a short siesta. The breakfast was wonderful with a large selection of both traditional & Mexican selections. The staff was most accommodating and always cheerful. The facility offers full beach amenties so you have all the beach benefits without the traffic of staying at the beach. If you are looking for a cozy hide-away place that is still steps away to all the action Magic Blue is a perfect fit!

After booking this hotel based on the reviews I read here on tripadvisor I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved staying at the Magic Blue. The hotel is on the smaller side, only about 40 or so rooms - which added to a relaxing, quiet atmosphere but not at all boring or stuffy! I came with my best friend for a girls getaway weekend and we both loved the hotel, initially fearing it would be loud and crazy - as some of the reviews here would have you believe.

I think your experience may depend on where in the hotel you stay and on what level. Some of the complaints stemming from loud or dark rooms seem to be from the guests who had upper level "thatched" rooms. We stayed in a ground floor garden view room and we had no problems sleeping or being woken up by "street noise", cars or partying. Also we requested to stay near the rear of the property farthest away from the Coco Bongo nightclub, which may have caused other guests excessive noise.

ROOMS - rooms are clean and sizeable for the price and decorated with a sparse modern flair. Linens were of a decent quality and beds were comfortable. Bathroom was quite small, but the sink/vanity was outside the bathroom so that made sense. There were flat screen tv's, air conditioning (which you can control via a remote), and, contrary to one of the reviews, they do give you a cell phone which is meant for calling the front desk or making local/collect/calling card calls. Also, there are several comments on here about the rooms being dark, which we did not experience in the slightest - but again we didn't have one of the top level "thatched roof" rooms - so I can't speak for those. Bottom line - you are in gorgeous Playa del Carmen, why are you spending so much time in your room!?

POOL AREA/STAFF: Pool is blue tiled with white furniture and a nearby pool bar. Pool area is at the center of the hotel and not huge, but definitely big enough for guests to use comfortably. Surrounded by palm trees, the inner pool courtyard definitely feels like an oasis in the middle of busy Playa del Carmen. The bartender at the pool bar was sweet and helpful, would bring us drinks while we were lounging at the pool - which we basically used to cool off at the end of each day after baking on the beach. Staff was very helpful, when you could locate them. Because the hotel is very small, there was probably only one front desk person at any given time and if they were off doing something, it was a bit hard to find someone else to help you. Again though, because of the size of the hotel, the front desk person would usually be back in under 10 minutes. Again, you are on vacation.....chill out and grab a beer while you wait if need be. The courtyard pool area can get quite dark at night with only sidewalk level lights to illuminate the path you are walking on, but I actually loved that - part of the atmosphere!

AMENITIES: Well, there aren't many, but if you are looking for tons of amenities, book a room at a much larger (or all inclusive) resort - which will surely cost you more pesos than the Magic Blue. There is a free breakfast at the adjoining restaurant next door, which was ok - most people have complained about this. Come on - its free. Me and my friend went to the restaurant twice, and if you are going to go, make sure you have time to order cooked eggs, because the cold "buffet" is not great. My huevos rancheros however were decent - for the price - which was, again, free. If you want a better breakfast there are tons of restaurants not more than 1 minutes walk to 5th avenue that are very reasonably priced, so again, not a biggie! Although there is another bar/restaurant onsite, I can't speak for the food or service since we never made it there. I heard they had fantastic shrimp tacos from some of the other guests we met. Based on the hotel's location though, we wanted to try out more of the surrounding restaurants/bars of which there are tons! Also, they give you free towels and use of the Coco Maya Beach Club, which is a short 2 block walk down the street. I'm not sure how much the beach club access costs if you are not a hotel guest, but I'm assuming its minimal if you are spending your whole day on the beach.

One thing about the hotel we found a bit odd and is worth mentioning, is that they will not let anyone in after about 10pm I think, that is not a guest. We met up with an old friend in Playa and had to stop back at our room to drop off our purses and the guard would not let our friend past the lobby with us! This is a bit unusual I think so it is worth mentioning, but not a deal killer in my opinion.

Overall, our stay was fantastic and even better, the price we paid was phenomenal for what we received. I think it really depends on the kind of vacation you want to have and are expecting. If you are low maintenance, and just want a clean, friendly, modern atmosphere - the Magic Blue is amazing!
