spent a week there, very much impressed with the accomodations, the location, the service, everything first rate, i was vacationing with the family and we had a wonderful time, most people have a time share there, we did not, that was not a problem at all. they have a huge place there with multiple swimming pools and we never had a problem with finding a place to swim or sit and relax, in the beach area there is a little bit more of competition to find places to sit and relax, but is never super crowded. It is not the best beach in the world a little bit too rocky and windy for my taste, but with so many swimming pools available is not a big deal. the big pools allowed for kids to swim and slopes progressively so that adults can swim with their kids. At times we would go with our kids to the children pools and most of the time we were there by ourselves. for people that want to go into playa del carmen take into consideration that the shuttle bus only provides service sporadically during the day and thus you have to book way in advance to get it. taking taxi will cost you around $15 dollars each way. There seems to be construction of a road that will potentially shorten the time and expense. the store in site is pretty good, you can find almost everything there. going to walmart in town could save you a couple of books.

We traded to this resort through Interval International for the week 2/17-2/25. It was our first time at a Royal Resort. The resort is beautiful and exceptionally maintained, rooms perfect, pool areas clean-including bathrooms. If you are a beach person, it is great for walking but has a lot of kelp and rocks-they do however try to keep this clean but mother nature usually wins. The buffet restaurant is just OK, poolside menu also just OK. But the upscale seafood restaurant Los Murales was bar none the best dining experience we have ever had at a resort and we have traveled to quite a few countries and properties. I did not care for Royal's "personal concierge" program which is really a person who tries to get you to a "tour" every time you have a question-so we ended up figuring out a lot by ourselves. They also list a shuttle to Playa on their website-you actually have to sign up for it and it only takes a few at a time-I hate schedules on my vacation and I feel it was misrepresented on their website as to how often it actually goes. Also it seems front desk staff are allowed to answer few questions and will direct you to your "concierge/timeshare representative"

I dont know how anyone could complain about this resort. It is almost new, well cared for on the grounds and in the room care. The cleaning staff go above and beyond as does all of the staff and the location is very close to Playa's 5th avenue..150 pesos cab ride.
As a former hotel manager, I really appreciate how well organized and run this property is.
If you can trade your timeshare to stay here, you wont regret it.
The swim up bars are a real treat as are the fitness workouts you can get mid day in the pool.
Beach is nice and swimming while not the best, a short walk can get you all that you need.
Enjoy yourself and have the time of your life!

Room Tip: All of the rooms at this property are superior

My family just returned from a stay at this resort. The resort has every amenity available, is very safe, and has extremely attentive and pleasant staff. We had a great condo near the main reception and market, which I preferred ( however, beach front would have been great too for the stunning ocean views!). I enjoyed having breakfast on the deck, and the outdoor hot tub in our suite was a hit with our kids. Other perks:
- fun kids activities, great gym and plenty of beach front to laze, snorkel or walk along.
- stunning golf course next door.
- Regarding the restaurants on site, we thought the pool side grills offered great tasty choices, and didn`t mind the price at all. We only bought drinks at the pool side bar during happy hour.
Some things I would change: less processed foods in the market on site, and infuse more local culture into the resort. At times we thought the atmosphere was a tad sanitized. We did have the benefit of staying the first few days of our trip at the Riviera Maya Suites in Playa del Carmen and prefered the convenience of its location over this one. All in all though we certainly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Second floor ideal for views of the grounds. Not really a bad location, as far as I am concerned.

I'm a long-time royal resorts member, but this was my first stay at this property. It's quieter and more laid-back than the properties in Cancun's hotel zone, so a great place to "unlax".

The restaurants are more limited in their menus and seatings, and you must shuttle (free) or take a taxi (not free) to go to Playa Del Carmen for shopping and/or greater restaurant selection..

Back on the plus side, it's much closer to good snorkeling and the eco-parks of Xelha and Xcaret.

Two thumbs up!

Room Tip: All rooms have some ocean views, even those furthest back from the beach.

This resort is beautiful. Food is only marginable. Food too pricey for the quality. The pool, rooms, service and beach are fantastic.

Room Tip: We were near the market end of resort which was nice. Fourth floor. modest walk to beach and pool.

Stayed a week in February 2012 and we're already missing this place. The pluses are many, and the negatives very few.

Pluses
-- The grounds are very beautiful in this elegant and well-cared-for resort.
-- Rooms are spacious and well appointed with big comfortable beds, good TVs, a stereo, a safe, full kitchen, dining table, good shower. There's a nice two-person hot tub and lounge chairs on the deck. Wi-Fi in rooms works, but is a bit hit-and-miss.
-- Staff is friendly and attentive from the bars to a restaurant to the front desk. Waiter Rene is the restaurant was a favorite.
-- Pools are great and just the right temperatures. In each section there's a kids pool, a lap pool and large pool with a swim-up bar.
-- The beach is good and very swimmable.
-- The main restaurant is good to very good and we ate there three nights. Each night has a different thyme (Mexican, Asian, Prime Rib, Carribean, etc.) or you can order off the menu. There's also a more expensive and bit francier seafood restaurant/bar which we didn't try. The main restaurant also delivers pizza (only medium quality), roast chicken, salads and a few other choices to the rooms. The restaurant is a bit pricey, but nothing outrageous.
-- Good little convenience store on site with all of the basics, and some nice extras. If you forget something, they most likely have it.
-- Very good selection of daytime resort activities for both kids and adults. We espeically liked the water aerobics class and the pottery painting class, in which the instructor turns your work into a mini masterpiece.
-- Happy hour is 3-6 and the drinks are very good, if a little expensive outside of happy hour ($6).
-- No money is needed on the resort grounds. You charge everything to your room, which is convienent, and then pay at the end.

Minuses
-- It's a timeshare, but they don't do a hard sell by any stretch. Tell them you're not intrested and they mostly leave you alone.
-- It's pretty quiet, especially at night. The place basically closes down when the sun goes down. That worked for us, but might not for others.
-- Close to Playa, but a bit removed. If you want to do the Playa scene regularly, this place might not be your best option.
