“Another lovely vacation at the Royal Haciendas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2014

This is our fifth annual trip to this wonderful resort. We keep coming back because it is so beautiful, the staff is friendly without being obsequious, the rooms are nice and the activities suit our needs. I enjoy the daily morning yoga followed by Pilates, Zumba, or water aerobics. There are multiple pools, including kitty pools for the little ones and lap pools for swimmers. For the younger crowd there is beach volleyball. They also have an on-site scuba school and equipment such as kayaks and flippers for guests. My husband just stays in the shade and reads. There is a good mix of ages among the guests. If you don't like birds, don't come here! The gorgeous landscaping attracts lots of birds. This morning I saw a beautiful hummingbird. Last year I took the 'behind the scenes' tour of the reverse osmosis water purification system and saw the impressive staff area. We visited a classroom where practical English was being taught to employees. We see the same people from year to year, so it seems they are good employers. Royal Haciendas is probably not a good choice for Spring Breakers who are looking for nightlife. It is an all-inclusive, so vacationers who like to eat at different restaurants in the nearby cities might not find it to be a good value. Like many Riviera Maya resorts, Royal Haciendas is a timeshare, so expect sales staff to be around. This has never bothered us because the sales staff seem very professional. The closest town is Playa del Carmen. The resort has a special arrangement with certain taxis to take vacationers to and from town for $3 each way. Royal Haciendas is very close to Tulum, a beautiful Mayan ruin with a lovely beach. On-site travel agent and car rental are very convenient. There is also a spa, but we have never used it. If you can avoid the Cancun airport on the weekends, try to do so.

They got it right at this all-inclusive!
I have been coming to the Royal Haciendas for five years and love this Resort. The location is great (away from the craziness of Cancun) but still lively. The Resort itself is beautiful; the grounds are immaculate; the daily maid service is excellent; and the beaches pristine.
This was my first visit with the all-inclusive option. It was GREAT! The food is superb and the dining options are few, but with enough variety to satisfy most people for a weeks' vacation. It was very cool to be able to get room service included! The included wine, beer and liquor options were much better than most all-inclusive Resorts. The service at the restaurants and bars can be slow, but it's usually friendly.
One disappointment was the fact that their big scuba diving boat was broken, so we couldn't go diving in Cozumel - which was the purpose of our trip.

Room Tip: I don't think there is a "bad" room in this Resort.

Great staff! Wonderful rooms - very spacious. Family orientated. We booked our golf through the resort. Also booked a car for road trips. We have come here yearly - 20+.... We have recommended 3 families to join us 10 years ago. Now all of us stay and enjoy this resort.

We recently stayed here for spring break and it was amazing! This was our second time in Mexico, first time in Playa del Carmen and we loved this resort. The staff here are constantly cleaning and it definitely shows in the appearance. The hotel is almost spotless and so are the rooms. The staff all know decent English and are easy to communicate with. The beach is breathtaking and there are plenty of spots to sit by the pool and beach. The pool is great, but during spring break there are many college kids drinking at the pool bar (since the drinking age in Mexico is 18) so be prepared to have some funny stories to tell friends. There are many activities for the kids, especially the beach volleyball, which we could watch from our hammocks. The All-Inclusive is great and the food is very exceptional! We enjoyed the different themed buffets every night and the breakfast buffet is amazing. We noticed that by the pool, especially during the peak of lunchtime, service is very slow with food so we usually just did the lunch buffet too. During dinner, room service is very slow in bringing food to the rooms, sometimes to the point where your food is cold! It can be quickly warmed up in your microwave in the kitchen, though, so this was ok. The concierge was very helpful in setting up excursions for our family that included Xel-Ha and Dolphin Discovery, they even upgraded our view! Overall I was very pleased with this resort and we will definitely be coming back here in the future!

Royal Haciendas is a beautiful resort. The grounds are meticulously manicured and the buildings are spotless. The staff is very friendly and professional. Our family of 4 stayed in a two bedroom villa. The villa was very spaceous. The daily cleaning person did a wonderfull job. The food at the resort was excellent. The service by the pool waiters was top notch and the food at the Luna Grill next to the pool was very good. The beach is very large and well maintained. If you like to walk the beach, you can walk for miles in either direction from the resort.

After 7 years, the staff is really beginning to shine; the waiters, bellboys and spa staff are the hit of this property. Great attitudes, high level of service and a real desire to please.

Since it's conversion to an all inclusive for renters (not required for owners), the infrastructure is truly taxed beyond capabilities, up to 2 hours to wait to eat, room service trays and related items in the hallways for literally days at times. It's obvious they are not set up to handle the volume of bodies they are seeing now as opposed to when it was primarily owners only.

On top of the frustrations with their conversion, it's obvious the mechanical maintenance is slipping, in three visits to the spa, only on one occasion were all of the wet area items working, twice the steam room was down, and once each the jacuzzi and saunas were down, thank goodness for the staff!

We went two days without air conditioning in our villa, two entire buildings were down.

The property was conceived and built with dozens of water features as the backdrop to common area rooms and outdoor areas, less than 20% of those are operational in the 4 weeks we have been here.

Sure seems like this place is slipping from its once top of the heap perch...

Room Tip: All rooms are basically identical with no bad locations

I'm very divided with my review on this resort. There are many great things about this place and then there are things that they need to figure out get a better system for.

The GREAT--The place is beautiful and immaculate! The rooms are awesome! We traveled with 6 in our family and had plenty of space in our room-2 bedrooms (1 King bed in one room, 2 queens in another and 2 Murphy beds in the living room), 2 bathrooms, living room and full kitchen.

Their room service is pretty fast (30-40 minutes) and the food is decent.

The pool entertainment (at the "right U" as we called it) was great! They have a lot of fun with the people around the pool and were good for lots of laughs. Great with kids!! The "left U" has no entertainment.

The beach is beautiful!!

The BAD--If you stay over a Saturday you will most likely have to switch rooms. I saw this online and figured it probably wouldn't happen to us. But we had to move and every other person we talked to had to move as well. Pretty sure this is the rule and not the exception. They ask you to stay in your room on Saturday and wait for them to call you when your room is ready.... around 12 noon.... not ideal on a family vacation!

Even though this is an "all inclusive" and you where a wristband you still have to give them your room key whenever you order something. This wouldn't be so bad but the service is very slow, the servers are nice, but they seem to be short of help as you are always waiting on them to return with your room key and bill to sign. I mean, the whole point of an all inclusive is to not have to worry about a bill! I know this is because its also a timeshare.... but there as to be a better way.

There are only 2 restaurants for dinner. La Palapas (sp?) is the main restaurant and the food is average at best. It is almost all buffet. They have specialty nights so you get a different variety every night, but on Prime Rib night, you had to pay extra for the prime rib... The second restaurant, Los Morales, is delicious! You have to make reservations but it is well worth it!!

Check in took over a half hour and we were the only ones there... I didn't really understand this.

We have been to a few all inclusive in Cancun/Riviera Maya and have never had these types of inconveniences... these inconveniences would probably cause us to go elsewhere
