We just returned from 3 weeks in Riviera Maya, and spend one of the weeks at Royal Haciendas. The service was amazing. The food was great especially at Los Murales. We own 2 weeks in the winter and chose to spend a week this summer because we both love it.

Highly recommended it to anyone looking for a true Mexico's Mayan experience.

My family stayed at this resort for a week in May. The resort is beautiful, and we loved our room. We had the smaller 1 bedroom studio, but I wouldn't call it small. It had a big gorgeous bathroom, a kitchenette, and a huge bedroom with a patio that overlooked the pools. The beds were extremely comfortable. Our room was always clean, and our fridge was always stocked with whatever we requested. We were there on a fairly slow week in the off season, so we got lucky and did not have to switch rooms. The pools are gorgeous, we always found chairs, and the waiter service was great. This resort is pretty quiet and peaceful, which was exactly what we wanted. If you're looking for a place to party, this isn't the resort for you.

I'm giving this resort 4 stars instead of 5 only because of the weather conditions at the beach. The weather was not ideal the week we were there. It was very windy the entire time, and the ocean was a little rough. There were two days that we couldn't even go in the water, and the reef area was closed the entire time due to spiny urchins in the water. We still had a great time swimming in the gorgeous pools, but we were pretty disappointed about not being able to enjoy the beach a little more. Some resorts have beaches that have a little more protection from the waves, either because of a bay or a corral reef that breaks up the waves. We were there for the beach, so next time we'll try to find a resort with a beach that has some protection from the open ocean. We loved everything else about this resort though.

We were also a little disappointed that there was no wildlife anywhere at the resort, not even a single iguana. We stayed at the Sandos Playacar a couple of years ago, and got to enjoy seeing iguanas, monkeys, coatis, and several other animals.

We saw timeshare agents all over the place, but we managed to avoid them all week. We had a late arrival time at the hotel, so the timeshare agents had left for the day and we were able to go straight to our room. We did get two phone calls from our "concierge" and he tried to get us to meet him in the lobby so we could receive our "free gifts". We just told him we were busy and that we'd stop by when we had time. We never stopped by, and he gave up after a couple of tries. They love to shedule a breakfast meeting with people so they can make their sales pitch, so don't set up a breakfast meeting with them if you aren't interested.

Our family spent a week in July at the Royal Haciendas. The resort was very clean and the grounds are beautiful. We had a 2 bedroom Villa and the service was great - our fridges were always stocked with drinks and the kids like the lollipops left at turn down service.
They said the resort was full however we never had a problem getting lounge chairs by the pool or Palapas on the beach. The service by the pool was good and they usually never took too long to bring out drinks and/or food.

Our concierge was ok, she helped get reservations at Los Murales but once she found out we had already booked our excursions online she disappeared.
The travel agency was very nice and helpful to us even though we had booked trips elsewhere.

The food is pretty good. La Palapa Del Sol is the only place for breakfast and the buffet was slightly different each day. You can get bacon from the back grill as they don't have it out of the buffet. The chefs were really nice. We usually had lunch at the Luna Grill as they had many great things to choose from on the menu. The shrimp wraps and shrimp tacos are wonderful. For dinner we ate at Los Murales one night. No problem getting a reservation. The food was wonderful there; however, most items on the menu do have the surcharge that has been mentioned. You can find a few items without it though. They did a great job and catered to children and provided french fries even though it wasn't on their menu. Otherwise, we had dinner at the La Palapa Del Sol. They do have different theme nights each day and most we enjoyed except for the Yucatan Night. We also ordered off the menu there - the food was great but this is where the service was very slow. You just have longer to look at the wonderful view as you're right on the beach with the ocean view. The coconut shrimp is yummy. We also had room service a couple times. There are many selections and the food was really good. They also were pretty quick to my surprise. I learned at the end of our stay that you can pre-order breakfast for a certain time the night before. This would be great if you are doing any excursions. We did have to purchase the AI plan so I would say that we were getting tired of the one food option really for breakfast and dinner. If there were more places to choose from it would be better.
The resort has some activities for people to do. The phase 1 pool is where most of the activities take place. We enjoyed the beach and pool volleyball, poker games and reserved kayaks to use. The beach is nice - has areas designated for swimming, kayaks and snorkeling. They also have a Game Room with ping pong table, tv, xbox, etc where Mon-Fri the kids can do a few things.
Overall, the resort was great and very relaxing.

Room Tip: Buildings A, E and I have a full ocean view. Floors 3 and 4 will have a better ocean view.

We spent two absolutely wonderful week at this hotel!
Highly recommended. We stayed in a two bedroom deluxe villa, spacious and tasteful rooms. We have been to Mexico three times previously (Bareselo / Riu Tequlia / Riu Palass) this is
absolute the best. The service must be experienced .. We had All inclusive. Very pleased with the food, varied and numerous alternative. Room service was also included in the all inclusive and we used it a lot .... The drinks, the staff, the food was outstanding. Thomas, Norway

Room Tip: kids? two bedroom deluxe suites

First the accommodations: We stayed in the 2 bedroom villa. Very clean, beds a little too firm, but overall comfortable. The Grounds are well-kept and beautiful. The beach: small areas good for swimming. Lots of areas cordoned off because of coral reefs. Palapas on the beach for shade, with nice beach chairs and food/drink service. We were in a beachfront unit, and could see that people were going and "staking their claim" early in the morning, as they also did at the pools, which were nice, but definitely crowded. Security is everywhere, yet they seemed to allow people to stake their claim, which was a little rude. The Food: We are owners at the Royal Islander and Royal Caribbean for over 20 years. We opted NOT to do the all-inclusive, because we really enjoy going to sample the different area restaurants. We were a group of 6, and all of us were very unimpressed by the food quality at the resort. It was over-priced and lackluster. After a few meals at the resort, we ended up stocking up at the market and eating in the villa. Leaving the resort for a meal was an immediate $25 round-trip for a taxi. I give a 3, rather than 4 star rating for the resort because of my disappointment as an owner. DO NOT buy a timeshare here.. as an owner, you subsidize the non-owners that are coming down in an all-inclusive package. We spoke to people that paid around $1000 for 8 days, including air, hotel, and food/drinks. If I were one of those people, I would be delighted, because you would get what you pay for; but, this was disappointing to us.. we pay almost a thousand annually for our maintenance fees, then need to buy airfare and food/drink. The all-inclusive option was offered to us for $74/day pp. It is a very sad situation for those who believed in the resort, only to find that we are brushed aside while they struggle to find their identity in the industry, leaving the members as casualties. The club used to have excellent food, service and lodgings at reasonable prices; making the purchase of the time-share a no-brainer. Our best option remains renting our place out, and seeking the deals that are so abundant these days. My suggestion to the resort would be to go back to their roots; keep your food simple, affordable and fresh, and keep a running shuttle to town (that doesn't require a reservation!) that allows people to explore the area easily. If they insist on keeping the all-inclusive option, they would be wise to cut the price for owners; make that a BENEFIT to those of us who have invested in the club, rather than a liability. In doing so, the incentive to be an owner would return.
