The Royal Haciendas is a beautiful resort with a fun pool, white sandy beach, clear blue ocean and nice big rooms. The place has little added features, such as hammock gardens, kayaks, water fountains and private whirlpool tubs outside on each balcony. We had heard good things about the resort, so I exchanged through Interval. We were only asked once to attend the timeshare sales meeting and once we said "No Thanks", we never heard from them again.

Here is what we really liked:
The staff is extremely friendly and went out of their way to put a smile on our face. Our young kids enjoyed the pool and hot tubs, the outdoor chess game, and activities center. Make sure to take the short drive to go shopping in Playa del Carmen - you'll find a mix of typical Mexican merchandise all the way to high-end boutiques and name brand stores. The resort's convenience store was "convenient" but pricey and small. The resort's restaurants were OK - we enjoyed La Palapa del Sol because it was casual and on the beach. The rooms are very big with lots of storage, free wireless internet service, nicely decorated and had all the amenities needed to call it "home" for the week. It looks like just about every room has a view of the ocean. We were lucky enough to get a fourth-floor room -- very nice views!

The negatives:
The resort itself is very clean. However, if you like walking the beach and leaving the property, I'm warning you that the grounds on each side of the resort are filled with garbage/litter -- very, very sad. It is not the resort's fault, but a definite slam on the area overall. At the resort, things are pretty pricey, especially the food and drinks and convenient store. I would highly recommend stocking up and filling your kitchen, if you want to save some money. The resort still lets people smoke - it would be great if they could have a "smokers" section on the beach so the rest of us didn't have to be around the smoke. And one last thing...they need to turn up the heat in the hot tub. The pool temp was fine, but the hot tub was only a "warm" tub while we were there.

Overall, the resort is beautiful and I would recommend it to friends and family.

I'll try not to be too long. This was our second time to the Royal Haciendas. We stayed in the A section the last time, and in F this time. This place could not be any better. From the pools, beach, and the landscaping...it is all top notch. We have been to Playa 3 times and would not consider staying anywhere else. The employees are very friendly, and take pride in their work. We stayed in a villa, which has the living room, kitchen, dining room, as well as two seperate bedrooms. Everything was clean, updated, and a great place to relax at the end of the day.

So...the negatives. The restaurants are over priced and the food is not that good....with the exception of the pool area dining. We have never had a complaint about the things coming out of there.

Javier was our concierge for the trip. He was great. He had many recommendations on where to eat "outside" of the 5th Avenue tourist trap. Let me highly recommend a restaurnat called La Fagoda(SP) on 30th Ave and Constitution across from the Mega. You will not find better Mexican cuisine anywhere.....and the prices are incredible!!!!!!

We were not pressured at any time to buy a time share, and in fact, we were left alone the entire trip. A huge bonus!!! We booked right on the Royal website and found incredible deals.

We exchanged through Interval and were delighted with the results. This location was very well maintained, extremely clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. It was actually much nicer than the timeshare we own! We were not pressured to buy a timeshare-the one sales meeting we did attend was optional, friendly and very low-key.

We had a very quiet, relaxing week which is exactly what we were looking for. I cannot speak to the nightlife, etc. However, the drinks served were excellent and we thought they were extremely reasonable in price.

We rented a car from the lobby vendor one day and drove to Tulum. Another day we booked a snorkeling trip through another vendor in the lobby. We were very satisfied with both. We did try to rent a car another day and there was not one available, so one day rental availability may be sporadic. There is a free shuttle that transports guests into Playa del Carmen and back. We used this one day and also were pleased with this service.

We bought most of our food in either Playa or in the convenience store on the property and prepared the majority of our meals in our unit. The convenience store, while a bit limited in selection, is very reasonably priced.

Overall a wonderful vacation!

What more could you ask for out of a relaxing vacation? The rooms are beautiful and we had an amazing view. The pool area is so big that you never feel crowded. The wait staff catered to our every need and want. The beach and graounds are immaculate. Happy hour is from 3-6pm every day so drink prices are reasonable. The food is good for resort food, not amazing, but definitely quality. Overall- fantastic place, fantastic experience and will definitely be returning.

Recently took a 3 night getaway with my husband and was pleasantly surprised at how nice this hotel was. We had a lock off unit (only had 2 full beds which was the only down side of our stay). The room was immaculate and I am very picky and travel a lot for work to many high end hotels. This is a non smoking property (which is wonderful). There was never a piece of garbage on the ground anywhere. We went to the breakfast buffet. Quality, and selection was good for the price. We ate dinner at the seafood restaurant and everything was terrific! We had drinks and food at the pool bar/restaurant and had a blast. We took the free shuttle downtown into Playa Del Carmen and that was well worth it. One recommendation we had was for the bar to be open past 10:30pm. Midnight is definitely more appropriate.
We also had a couples massage and it was good - not great and pricey ($251).
Overall, this was a great resort and would definitely recommend it (already have) and will be back if our destiny is Mexico!

My five-year-old son and I just returned from a wonderfully relaxing vacation at Royal Haciendas. The resort itself sparkles it's so clean and beautiful. The staff is courteous and hard-working. I was particularly impressed with the activities staff. We had a few rainy days and they worked hard to make our days as fun as possible, given the lousy weather. The pools are amazing! My son spent nearly our entire vacation in one pool or another! The drinks are yummy (and strong). There is a grocery store right on site and it's prices are perfectly fair and reasonable. The hotel is right on the beach. Sigh. We miss it already! The downsides were few, but here they are: (1) the food is expensive and only so-so; (2) while you can take a free shuttle into downtown Playa del Carmen (and our favorite restaurant, El Fogon), you have to make reservations way a head of time AND the last shuttle leaving Playa is at 6:00 p.m., which means that you have to take a taxi home; (3) there is only a free shuttle to the hotel's sister resorts in Cancun on Thursdays; (4) if the weather is uncooperative, there isn't really a whole lot to do at the resort, particularly for little ones; and (5) even if you rented through Expedia or something, you WILL be subject to a pitch to buy a timeshare.

My wife and I stayed at the Royal Haciendas for two weeks (10/30/10 - 11/13/10) and had a wonderful time. Our stay was a combination of an Interval International exchange and a purchase of a week. The resort is immaculate, and the service and staff are great. We were assigned a personal concierge (Alan), who was gracious and helpful. He even arranged to have the NY GIants football game on one of the Lobby bar TVs for me because the Sports Bar was showing two other NFL games. There were several complimentary lunches and cocktail parties, which we enjoyed. Our one bedroom suite was spacious and nicely decorated, with a full kitchen and a hot tub on the balcony, which we used alot! The onsite store was reasonable, although the selection is pretty limited. Many of the guests take the shuttle to the Playa Del Carmen and walk to the local Walmart for food shopping (we did NOT do that ourselves). The on site restaurants are good (Los Murales is GREAT), and there is also take out and delivery from the La Palapa restaurant. We often had lunch poolside or on the beach, and the food was great. I took the opportunity to get my SCUBA certification at the on site dive center (Dive Balam). The staff there is great and very professional (shout out to Gustavo and Javier!) If I had to list a complaint it would be that the large outdoor hot tubs (all 4 of them) were lukewarm at best, and only a few degrees warmer than the pools. We will definitely return to the Royal Haciendas, as we purchased our own unit. We can't wait to go back this year.
