“Peferct place to getaway....”
Reviewed 26 September 2013

I organised a last minute 8 day getaway to Playa del Carmen for a very needed break.
I found Playa Palms Boutique Hotel whilst looking at all hotel reviews on Trip Advisor.
I originally booked for 5 days. Upon arrival I was greeted by Luis who instantly made me feel welcomed.
The room #204 was clean, spacious and inviting.
All staff were friendly and the location of the hotel is perfect as you are right on the beach and within walking distance to 5ta Avenida where most restaurants, nightclubs and shops are located.
The hotel has no restaurant but this is no set back as breakfast is brought and served in your room every morning and whilst on the beach there are helpful staff from the restaurant next door that can take your order for food and drinks which can then be enjoyed either on the beach or brought up to your room....Ask for Gabriel, he brings the most wickedly delicious cocktails and is always ready with a suggestion when you are not sure what to eat....
Needless to say, my 5 days turned into 8 days at Playa Palms....I travelled alone but felt I was in good hands with everyone being so welcoming and friendly...
Thank you to Luis (manager) Carlos (concierge) and Gabriel (food and drinks expert)!!

After making reservations at Playa Palms, we contacted the hotel prior to our flight from Florida and asked about ground transportation from the airport in Cancun. We received an email that said someone named Carlos could arrange this for us but we got busy and wound up going through the gauntlet of airport sales people who aggressively market their tours and transportation. We hired a taxi since we couldn't find the Ado. There were busses dropping people off but none of them were picking up passengers. Our taxi cost $75 and the driver couldn't find Playa Palms even though we supplied the address. He dropped us off and we walked in circles asking directions and finally found this lovely jewel of a hotel. Our room was excellent, #205, except it was quite musty. But there was already a supply of water and snacks in the fridge. It had a built-in sofa and chair and coffee table, a fully appointed kitchen and a comfy bed. The water pressure was great and the room was spotless. Each balcony is ample-sized with a table and chairs and a hammock for relaxation. There is a water feature by the front entrance that echoes down the narrow but lovely pool area giving this place a truly wonderful ambiance. The beach in front of the hotel was pristine. There are fishing boats moored there which for us added to the interest of the view. There is a large condo/time-share next door that extends beachside service to Playa Palms guests, and we enjoyed daily massages from the providers that are stationed on the other side of Playa Palms' spot. We learned just how important and trustworthy Carlos' able assistance was when I discovered I had failed to bring my one and only medication with me. Unfortunately the medication isn't available in Mexico and I could not go without it for the two weeks we had planned to spend in the Yucatan. Carlos really worked with me calling his personal physician and a local pharmacia while I emailed and phoned my doctor's office to come up with an equivalent to allow me to continue my vacation. You see this was a victory trip...I am cancer-free and finally back on my feet after chemotherapy. It would have been a huge loss to have to go back home and it took Carlos and I a half day of following up to finally get the job done. Carlos didn't know this but still that man literally went above and beyond and seemed happy to do so. After that we learned how great a network and how well-acquainted Carlos is by booking all our tours and transportation through him. Even his restaurant recommendations were superior. He really made our experience extraordinary. We'll be back to Playa Palms (with ear plugs which worked just fine) to hopefully enjoy once again being treated so very well. Thank you!

Easy, convenient, clean and beautiful. Great little spot. Wonderful value and the staff couldn't be nicer. Easy walk to shops, nightlife, etc., but not so close that you can't get away. Some have mentioned the noise, but we didn't have a problem. The pool is a bit small and pretty shaded, but the beach is right there for sun and a nice dip in the ocean. We will definitely come back.

We loved our time at Playa Palms. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. Breakfast in the private balcony was an added bonus. It's location close to 5th ave meant, we walked everywhere and saved substantial dollars on traveling around the city. The hotel staff was extremely helpful and so polite. Carlos, the concierge was great help in planning our excursions. Although they don't have a formal beach club, there are servers who are available to provide you with beach service from nearby beach clubs, at all times. Playa Palms provides you with free beach towels, which is actually a luxury, considering many hotels in the area charge for the towels. All in all a great experience and we would definitely come back.

My husband and I loved this place! The rooms are spacious and clean. Each room has a patio with a table and chairs outside. It has a small pool, and is right on the beach. There are lounge chairs for the guests on the beach. Helpful staff. We stayed for four days and didn't want to leave! If you like the small places over the resorts, this is a good one.

The playa palms is in a great location for 5th avenue and the staff are all helpful and friendly. Also a plus of breakfast each morning which was very tasty. Two minor negatives are the rooms are starting to look a little tired and it is not situated on the best part of playas beach. Overall a great place which is very relaxing and convenient for bars and restaurants but don't expect luxury.

Dear Adam

Thanks for taking the time to write this kind of review of our hotel. we are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us.

Concerning the room standards, we are continuously updating rooms to keep them up to a high standard level. Since last year we have been in process of installing granite counters and uptodate in the all kitchens and bathrooms, and this will be finished before Christmas.

We hope to see you again with us at some other point.

Greetings
