“Brilliant 2 day stay”
Reviewed 26 March 2014

Wow! A tastefully made place on a brilliant location right on the beach. Stayed here for 2 nights as I was passing through and simply loved it. The staff was always very helpful, and overall a great experience. Location is great as it is close to the hang out areas, bars, pubs, restaurants and then ofcourse there is the beach. Small pool to chill out in the evening as well.

Every bit worth the money we paid

We had a one bedroom apartment on the street side of the property. Next time I would get a suite on the beach side. There were many all night clubs on our block and the noise was so loud that it ruined any chance of sitting on the balcony after 9:00. The balconies were great too with hammocks and table and chairs where a continental breakfast was served in the morning It was very nice being on the beach and close to the main street and many fine restaurants. The property was well maintained and staff very helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: get a room as close to the beach as possible, beware of loud booming music

Positives .... Great location, friendly and helpful staff, excellent dive shop (Reef Quest Divers) very close.

Negatives ... AC did not cool the room; furniture seemed musty; Internet Service Poor and often did not work; Supposed to be ocean "view" but not; water had iron and caused my hair to discolor after just one day.

Have stayed many places in Mexico, etc (all inclusives and other) and this is the only place so far that I would not stay again.

Loved this place - right on the beach, cute room with a great patio, walking distance to La Quinta shops and restaurants - totally would stay here again. We especially loved the towel animals housekeeping left after refreshing the rooms :)

We loved the hotel and the staff were amazing. Carlos, Victor and Luis were more than helpful - went out of their way to accommodate our needs. The cleaning staff did an excellent job - we were very impressed. Located close to 5th Avenue, no need to take a taxi. Enjoyed the breakfast on the balcony every morning - a great way to start the day. There were no issues getting chairs on the beach and towels were supplied, only downside was the boats right in front of us - not that big of a deal - you could still walk out into the water. You could hear the music from the clubs when you were on the balcony but didn't find it that loud - once you were in your room you could't hear anything - slept really well. Hotel is in an excellent location - would definitely stay again. Also was glad to see the night security watching all the comings and goings - they were on top of things. A big thank you to the hotel staff for making our stay wonderful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room closer to the beach

My wife and I checked into Playa Palms after spending the previous week at an all-inclusive resort nearby. We wanted to try a smaller, less expensive option for vacationing in Mexico. I have to say that overall we enjoyed the experience.
The Playa Palms is a condo hotel sandwiched between a beach club and a much larger condo resort. It has a prime location on the beachfront. From it you have easy access to 5th Avenue and all its shops and resturants. From my walks along the beach I would say it is the best of the small hotels in the area.
We had a garden view room near the back of the hotel on the ground floor. The room was very nice and perfect for our needs. There are two large closets and a queen bed at one side of the room. The bed was very hard. There is a programable safe in one closet. At the other end is a futon, coffee table and chair. We had cable TV. There is a kitchenette area with sink, toaster, small fridge and microwave. The fridge is stocked with various items such as beer, soft drinks, chocolate bars and cigarettes. Use them and you pay for them. Bottled water is supplied free. We walked to Walmart and local convienence stores for our food. In the evening we sampled some of the many resturants on 5th. The bath is perfectly adequate with a vanity and shower. The wireless internet service was frustratingly slow. The best feature for us was a beautiful patio with hammock; surrounded by lush vegetation. There were a couple of days we didn't even hit the beach because it was so relaxing to chill out here! Speaking of the beach, it was very nice. It got a bit crowded at times at the front, but there was always room for everyone at the hotel. The trees on the beach provide plenty of shade for those who want it. On every day except one, there were enough umbrellas to go around. I wish that the beach chairs had cushions, though. The hotel supplies beach towels. The one drawback to the beach is that there are a lot of fishing boats along the shore in front of the hotel so you have to wade out between them to get into the water. They also create a lot of exhaust smells with their revving engines. There is beach food and drink service from the hotel next door. Gabriel will give you a menu and take your order.
The hotel pool is very small. it is mostly just good for a quick cool down after the heat of the beach. The sun only hits the water for a short time each day so the water is quite cold!
One complaint about this hotel is that it can be a little too noisy at night. Because it is built in such a narrow space all the rooms are very close. Sounds of conversation on balconies seem to be amplified and you can easily hear this right thru the slider door at night. You will also hear the thump thump of music from nearby night clubs.
You might find the complimentary breakfast to be a bit skimpy. You are given a form to check off as to what you want and at what time. There is one slice of cold toast and one croissant for each guest; also coffee, tea and orange juice. I ordered a fruit plate my first morning but I did not find it to be good value. For 20 pesos you can buy large servings of excellent fruit from street vendors at the public beach just a short walk toward the Cozumel ferry dock.
We had a pleasant week at Playa Palms. The staff were friendly and helpful. I can't say we will return as there are many other options to explore but I would not hesitate to recommend it as a place to stay.

Room Tip: Some of the stairs to upper levels could be tricky for people with disability.

Check in was very quick and easy. Two employees showed us to our room, explained the features of the room and removed the contents from the refrigerator since we had stopped at the Mega store for our own “supplies.”

We stayed in a first floor room that shared a patio and hammock with the room next to us for 4 nights. We were the closest room to the beach without being on the beach. We loved the view and easy access to the room, patio, and beach.

Our room was large with a walk in closet and huge safe, big enough for a good size laptop and more. The room, also, included a large shower, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, water dispenser, plates, silverware, glasses, wine opener, etc. My only suggestion would be to include a roll of paper toweling.

Complimentary breakfast including coffee, tea, orange juice, bread, and croissants were delivered to your room every morning. You can, also, add fruit, cottage cheese, etc. for an additional fee or order a full breakfast from next door.

There is complimentary parking near the lobby.

The beach was nice and never too crowded. Beach chair and umbrellas were complimentary.

You can order food and drinks from next door. We had the guacamole and it was just OK.

The location of this hotel is perfect . . . steps from night clubs, bars, restaurants, shopping, diving, sport fishing, massages on the beach, etc.

Security was always around making sure everything was ok; ensuring you made it to your room at night; and that no one was on the premises that shouldn’t be.

The negatives:

We were unable to access the wireless internet for the first 2 days. Employees tried to help us and said they would have someone out to look into it. We were able to,, successfully access the internet the last two days of our trip.

There was, periodically, the smell of sewage in our room. . . noticeably around 3 a.m. each morning and, inconsistently, throughout the day.

We, thoroughly, enjoyed our 4 nights here in January and hope to return next January.
