We stayed at Petit Lafitte for 3 days at the end of a one month vacation in Mexico in May 2014. We chose this hotel to get closer to the airport just before our flight. Everything was so perfect for us ! Small hotel with big services and personnel attention. The food is good and the pool is quite large for a small hotel. The personal was friendly. We were a few driving minutes from the city of Playa del Carmen, so we could just go shopping for a few hours and come back to the relative tranquility of our Hotel. It was just what we were looking for !!

Hola Magdelen,

It sounds like you made the right decision, leaving Petit Lafitte for last. Yes a convenient location in relation to the airport and Playa del Carmen. We are very glad, as Mexicans to see you use a month to explore our country, certainly our beaches are dreamlike, but there is so much more to our country. Food, history, music, crafts, museums, dances. What an honor that you invested generously in discovering it!

Thank you for making us part of that journey, we wish you a lot of happy adventures in the future.

Best Regards,

Iván Fuentes.

This was a great place for a honeymoon for us. Not too big, not too small. The beach was clean and we found a great swimming area. Not too many people either. The meals were great and the service from the wait staff was wonderful. Our room was serviced so nicely everyday. Couldn't have asked for better. We really enjoyed our large balcony, where we had a post card view. It was our home away from home and we enjoyed everything! The little bar was just a stone's throw away, so we enjoyed several drinks and tasty lunches there. We highly recommend this sweet little hotel if you want a relaxing and quaint atmosphere. Special thanks to David. Loved meeting everyone who works at Petit Lafitte. You made our stay such a pleasure! We found a treasure!

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor room, closer to the beach...so you can get a great view. The balconies are sp...

Dear Lilhaws,

First we want to wish you both a long, fulfilling life together and we want to thank you for choosing Petit Lafitte as your honey moon spot. It seems that you enjoyed its prefect for you size, not too small not too large. Private feeling beach, food and service.
Also as you came in the end of May, there were less people than say…February or March, so it looks like you got a lot of extra attention from our staff.
We love to hear you say that you found a treasure, the feeling is mutual, we are now somehow connected in a special way. People have many vacations in a life time, but Honeymoons are special.

We hope to see you again on your anniversary, let us hear your plans when the time is near.

With best wishes!

Iván Fuentes.

We were looking for a place to go in Honeymoon, but we wanted to avoid the all-inclusive, so we could enjoy the local culture more and not be swamp with people.
Petite Lafitte was the perfect answer. After walking along the cost of Playa del Carmen, we realized that the beach of the hotel was one of the best, it felt almost exclusive (this may be because we went in May), the hotel has plenty palms to relax under. We stayed in a bungalow (number 3), which was certainly the best option, as we had sea-view from our veranda and the beach starts outside the door.
The service was excellent, we only had one issue with the transport from the airport, which the hotel organized but never showed up. We took a private service and the hotel cover the cost, so they managed it well (although it was not the best way of starting the trip).

The food was delicious. They provided a simple breakfast, with lots of fruits and a warm dish á la carte, and a two options menu for dinner. At lunch they have a bar open, with not expensive food.

One point is that the cocktails are not made with the best quality alcohol, so it was not much our taste. Still, not a big issue.

Overall we will definitely come back to Petite Lafitte and we will recommend to all our friends!

Dear gabyenred

Thank you for spending your honey moon with us. We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed the romantic time spent at Petit Lafitte and that you found the tranquility and privacy you were hoping for. One thing I feel compelled to say is that you picked a good time for a Honey Moon at Petit Lafitte. There are times when it is more crowded and while ti is still a small hotel and the ambiance is relaxed, it is certainly not as quiet as you found it. (Holidays, like Christmas and Easter, are busy times). Yes our beach is still in the outskirts of town, so it feels secluded and private, definitely not a good choice for people looking for action! Sorry to hear about your transportation problem. That was an exception to the norm, and unfortunately you were in the receiving end. We handled it in the only acceptable way possible. Assuming responsibility and covering the cost. Still we’re sorry for the inconvenience.
As for the cocktails at bar, we are reviewing our liquor4 list, we will work on upgrading the quality of the “mix” alcohol, and fair to say that we can, for a bit more, make your cocktail with your liquor of choice. Just need to ask Jesus or Victor.

Thank you again for your visit, your review and kind comments.

Wishing you a long, fulfilling life together,

Iván Fuentes

I've been coming down to the area for over 10 yrs, like others here I had the pleasure of staying at Capt. Lafitte years ago.
This tiny bit of paradise tucked between massive resorts (who are truely over-rated)..this place always allows me the time to relax, the good food and simple attention that I need.. and I will continue to come back.. The coldest beer in town, the freshest and most entertaining bartenders and staff.. and so many memories!!!1
Just can't tell you how much it is so worth the experience.
HI! To Alyissa & Paul.. hope you kept my lounge chair safe!!
Hugs.. Nancy

Room Tip: Double check that you have hot water before you shower!! Depending on how many people are showering...

Thank you again for another visit, this time you did not bring your sisters, but decided to do your yearly procession to this little corner of the world. We are so honored with your repeat business and developing friendship.
Your loyalty means a lot to all of us who value your kind and gentle presence,
Thank you for the nice chat at the bar prior to your departure,

Hope to see you again next May!

Blessings!

We were there for 3 nights in mid-May with our son, DIL and 3 year old granddaughter. We had been at another resort close by for a wedding but moved as that resort was to revert to adults only after the wedding. We LOVED Petit Lafitte. We were in Bungalow 10, could see the ocean easily and was close to our son's bungalow. The food was great, the service great and the air conditioning worked (unlike the resort we came from). It was so peaceful just to sit on the beach, at the bar or by the pool and play with our granddaughter or talk to her mom or dad when she was napping. We did not look at the rooms but would definitely stay in a bungalow again. The front desk arranged transportation for us to visit Tulum and also to the airport when we left. Great time there.

Room Tip: As mentioned, we loved Bungalow 10, ocean facing.

Dear gadaboutbgc,

Nice to read your review and see how after a stay in a different resort, you were able to appreciate Petit Lafitte’s food, service and tranquility. Even while you stay was brief, it probably felt like the icing on the cake, after taking care of your wedding presence and social/family matters. We’re happy that your son, daughter in law and granddaughter also enjoyed Petit Lafitte, and the nearby attractions like Tulum. Hopefully you will come back to Riviera Maya and see more of the beauty of the area. If so…you know the way now, We’d be delighted to see you again.

Best Regards,

I.Fuentes.

We spent four days at Petite Lafitte recently and were so pleased we chose this little gem. There is a huge difference between a hotel like this and one of the huge, impersonal hotels on the strip. Everyone knows your name and greets you on sight. The rooms were very comfortable as were the beds and pillows. AC of course and always had hot water. The meals were varied and excellent. One had a choice of probably 8 options for breakfast alone! our transfer to the airport was very reasonable and on time! The gardens were lovely and most important, totally devoid of mosquitoes! Good wifi in the rooms and the use of computers just off reception if needed.
There was so much to do too. The hotels a few hundred metres up the beach offer all the outdoor beach activities you would wish for and a trip into the centre of Playa del Carmen takes about 10 minutes by Collectivo. It's hard to beat or better all that Petite has to offer. No wonder they have a lot of repeat business!

It's hard to beat and were it not so far for us to travel, would certainly be back for more!

Room Tip: We are so glad we chose the garden facing rooms. We will have a view of the beach but they are obvi...

Heita hldt2014!

Saludos from sunny Yucatán Península.
Well, we are honored that you are calling us a secret and a gem.
To travel from as far as South Africa and find us seems more complicated that it really is, especially with technology and sites like Trip Advisor.
We’re glad that you enjoyed your 4 night stay and noticed the difference between Petit Lafitte and large hotels in general. Yes, due to the size of the hotel we are able to learn guests’ names and build connections that, without breaking the unspoken rules of professionalism, are sincere and warmer.
Thank you for your review, we’re glad you tried us and gave us such a good review.

Best regards,

Iván Fuentes

Our family used Petit Lafitte as a base to explore the amazing sites of the area. The kids loved spending time on the gorgeous beach and the amazing daily towel animals. The quality and variety of food was amazing and the service always cheerful and friendly.
