“Pretty good resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

My friend and I just got back from a week's stay in the Platinum Suites section-we are from Toronto, Canada and travelled with Air Canada Vacations.

Overall we really enjoyed this resort. The Platinum Suites were great because of the concierge service and the butler service at the beach and the pool. Their customer service was really great all-around in the Platinum Club. The only exception was the "Gala" dinner-you have to wait 30 to 45 minutes for the cook to grill your steak and shrimp-seriously? They know how many guests they are expecting-either have the food ready or do it a-la-carte-very disorganized-we didn't even stay for the dinner once we saw the line-ups at the buffet-a huge disappointment.

We thought the food and drinks were excellent and we ate at several of the a-la-cartes during our week.

The only things that we had issues with were the check-in--why can't hotels get this down pat? If there is a large group checking in why is there only 1 person at the front desk? I never understoof this-the hotels know how many people are checking in that day!!

Also, if you enjoy eating outdoors this is not the place to be-there are no open-air restaurants at all.

But a vacation is what you make it, so just grin and bear it-we had a great time overall and thought the staff were excellent.

Our visit was from May 31 to June 7 so we just got back on Saturday. I was a bit hesitant after my travel agent (Redtag.ca) in Toronto gave me his hotel as one of three choices. After I decided on the Grand Riviera Princess and then reading some of the reviews Iwas wondering if we made the right choice.
On arrival at the property it is really Grand and beautiful. Check-in was a breeze and we got our dinner reservation immediately after check in for four nights at different A la Carte. At the end of the third resevation we made reservation for the other three nights.

Our room looked clean and great overlooking the pool and the walkway so we were able to see and watch people go by. The first thing we noticed was that we had no iron in our room so we called to get an iron. I was not expecting them to arrive with the iron in about 5 minutes because of some of the reviews I read how you had to wait and call many times to get service. One day our toilet blocked and we called and within ten minutes someone was there to clear it. It was a problem with the water system which was fixed right away.

The food is excellent and the two buffet restaurants had something for everyone and food was pleantiful. The staff always had a smile and ready to make you happy especially Rosario. It was always great service at the A la Carte restaurant especially the MISO and the Italian. I heard from other guest that the Fondu restaurant was also excellent but we did not get a chance to try it.

All in all this is a great resort and I just don't understand some of the reviews I read before my trip. I guess some people are constant complainer and if one thing goes wrong they will give the resort a bad review. Our vist was for my birthday and our anniversary and we totally enjoyed our trip.

Thank you to the Grand Riviera Princess Staff

stayed here from May 31-June 6 2014 and our experience was average.

CLEANLINESS: the resort itself is gorgeous, beautiful and clean rooms and the grounds/pool is extremely well maintained. the floors are entirely marble which is very dangerous on the rainy season that is upon us in Mexico - saw many accidents and falls down the stairs because the staff did not accommodate for the rain on the slippery marble floor. the pools are clean and nice. the beach is crowded and not the nicest beach - water is rather murky and the bar is crowded

FOOD: extremely disappointing. for the price you pay, it's a rip off. no flavor to the food and the alcohol is gross - provided only basic alcohol such as Smirnoff for vodka. the a la cartes were disappointing and all tasted the same. only enjoyable one was La Vaquiera (grill). had food poisoning from the Mexican a la carte ! big disappointment in La Fleur (French)

AMBIANCE: little to none. Mexican resort you would expect a Mexican ambiance, however the entertainment was lacking after the hours of 8 pm. little to no live music either which was upsetting.

the resort is massive. if you are not ready to walk minimum 15 minutes to either the lobby for food or to the beach then this is not the place for you.

the staff is very kind and accommodating however for the price you pay, you can definitely find a better quality resort in Riviera Maya. would not go back

We just came back from our second trip to this resort. Actually our first was its sister property, the Sunset Princess. Both of these are connected and just mirror images of each other. We stayed in the Laguna Suites. Fabulous, and highly recommended. It's centrally located, has it's own pool, bar and concierge. They were very accommodating. The service was great. The beach has a separate section for the people with the platinum upgrade, which is included in the Laguna Suites. It is really not much different. Service was better on beach some days more than others. Always good though. Don't care much for the staff constantly bugging to offer massages. Extra fee of course. The one person that stood out was a young lady named Guadalupe. She was our poolside waitress last year and was in the lobby bar on the Sunset side in the evening. Wonderful! She actually remembered us from last year, I really believe this. She also had others from last year that she remembered as well. She always had a smile on her face and made sure to personally meet and greet each customer. Wether we stay again is unknown. After about 20 trips to Mexico, this ranks right at the top.

Just got back from our 3rd stay at the Riviera Princess and we cant wait to go back next year. Everything about this place is great, from the spectacular check in area to the beautifully kept gardens. The rooms are always kept clean and the food is always good with a great choice available. The staff here do a great job from the Cleaners to the Gardeners who keep the place immaculate. A special mention must go to beach waitress Yara who works the chill out zone or the adults only section on the main beach. She is extremely hard working and very friendly and an asset to the company. Also it would be wrong to miss out mentioning concierge Christian who can sort out just about anything for you and Guadelupe who is the waitress in the Sunset bar. All of these people contribute to making your stay here one to remember. See you all next summer. Kev and Christine.

We just returned from the Grand Riviera with our two children, ages 10 & 13. Needless to say we were very disappointed when we arrived and saw the Kids Club and Teen Club. I think they are false advertising when they say they have these two options for children. It was a total joke. We have been to all-inclusive resorts before with kids clubs and been very pleased but this resort should not even advertise that they offer this service. It is more like a babysitting service where the kids do what they want. The employees were not organized, they did not seem to be interested in the children at all, and could hardly speak English. Another mother had to translate for me one day when I checked my daughter in because she could not understand me. My son tried to play basketball one day and we waited for almost an hour for an employee to show up where you checked out the balls and finally left because we were tired of waiting. The Entertainment pool should be labeled "Adult only" pool. By mid-afternoon, 75% of the adults were so drunk they could hardly walk. The activities at the Entertainment pool were totally for adults. My 13 year old son did play water polo a few times because that was one game that did not involve alcohol. Most were "tequila" volleyball, crazy games (not appropriate for children to watch), etc...

Now, the resort it's self was nice. Rooms were very nice and had a lot of space. The food was overall good. One thing you should know is if you eat dinner in the restaurants that require reservations, men MUST wear pants. The website for this resort did not say this; fortunately, my husband wore jeans on the flight and was able to wear them. We only ate at 2 of the restaurants (Japanese and the Italian). Japanese was good. The kids enjoyed it. We got up and walked out before our dessert was served in the Italian restaurant. it took over 45 minutes to get our food (and you ordered from a limited menu so we did not expect to wait that long); the food was cold when it got to us. The waiter never came back to refill our drinks.

The resort is also huge. If you don't mind walking 10 minutes to get to the lobby, pools, or beach (depending on where your room is), then it is ok. I didn't mind to walk but by day 5, it got old.

I would NOT recommend this resort if you have kids. Mine were bored. I would recommend the resort to young adults or adults who like to drink a lot while on vacation and like the party scene.

Room Tip: We were in the 6000 building and it was close to the beach and pool. There was a buffet right besid...

Dear Kim O,
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. I would like to explain that our Kids Club offers a variety of activities that will expand your child’s imagination with excitement. Some of the activities included in our full program are pool games, painting lessons, bingo, water balloons, sandcastles, mexican games and fun filled games that let them enjoy their stay with us.

Our Kids club staff is made up of very caring, patient trained individuals who supervise the wide variety of activities mentioned. We regret that our Kids club did not live up to your expectations. Your feedback is of concern to us and you can be sure we will be looking into the matter in regards to this particular activity.

Finally I would like to explain that our official website explains our dress code for the a la carte restaurants.

We appreciate your feedback and always take the opportunity to use guest comments on this important site as a way to improve both our service delivery and product. Once again, our apologies for the shortfalls you experienced, hopefully you will give us the opportunity to serve you once more in the future.

Best Regards,
Obed Canché

This resort is without a doubt in my mind the most superlative, dynamic, outstanding, all consuming,,elegant, mesmerizing, spectacular, enchanting resort that I have ever been in the Riviera maya resort area and I have been to quite a few of them in that area.First of all let me start check-in ,it was very smooth and effortless very courteous and very efficient, they asked if we needed anything just ask and they"ll do it.The staff in the resort greeted us with open arms, everyone said hola as we passed them walking by,very friendly in every way.My wife and I were celebrating our fortieth wedding anniversary and were very happy that we picked this resort
All the buffets were great, good food every day morning noon and night with a different variety of food every day.The alacart restaurants were very elegant with good food, make your reservations when you check in they go very fast. The pools the beach are all very easy to get to from anywhere in the resort area shuttles are available to take you anywhere in the resort area if you don't want to walk.I want to thank the desk manager amaury aquilar for everthing.j joe boccia

Room Tip: rooms on the south side are quieter, ask for an upgrade you just might be lucky and get it.
