“Wonderful - Well Exceeded Expectations!”
Reviewed 20 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

We have been vacationing in the Mayan Riviera for 15 years, and staying in vacation rentals in Playa del Carmen for the past four years. Our previous vacation rental suited us perfectly for each of the past four years but our failing Canadian dollar has forced us to look for more economical accommodation if we are to keep wintering in PDC. We decided to try this rental for a week to see if we could *live* without a pool, with a longer walk to the beach, and on a part of the street that is a bit busier and we assumed, noisier - than our previous rental.

Penny was phenomenal to deal with - she answered our many questions fully and promptly, providing all sorts of good information. When we arrived at the apartment - Sergio greeted us and gave us an orientation and remained available to us throughout our stay (he lives several apartments down from the one we rented). He had filled a bowl with the most amazing fruit - a very thoughtful touch. The apartment is furnished minimally and tastefully decorated. The bed is one of the most comfortable we have slept on in Mexico, cozy sheets and blankets. We didn't sit at the small dining table, preferring always to eat on the little balcony overlooking the bustling street (Calle 46, also known as CTM). The couch was comfortable to sit on - I had to work on my laptop for four hours one day and I was fine. The kitchen had everything we needed - the two-burner stove was all we needed as we eat out most dinners. The full-sized fridge was great. The air-conditioning worked great - and was much needed! We didn't watch a lot of tv but did hook up our computer to the tv so that we could watch Netflix and all worked well! The wifi is excellent which is very important to us.

Our biggest fear in moving was that the walk to the beach with the beach chairs (which are provided) would be too long - but it's only a 12 minute walk and was no problem at all.

The apartment is up only one flight of stairs and is situated over a few little restaurants including a cafe/bakery (Tiramisu), a pizza place (Mr Pizza) and a deli. There is a great spa called Quinto Elemento (massage/pedicure etc) less than 1/2 block away. If you head towards the water two blocks and cross the street you can buy amazing juices, fruit and vegetables at Esmeralda's - there is a Willy's Store right next door to Esmeralda's - it's a small store where you can buy mostly perishables. Our favorite meal was Pollo a Carbon - whole chicken barbecued over charcoal available at the corner of CTM and Avenida 30 (a few minute walk from the apartment). If you continue on down Avenida 30 - there are two huge grocery stores - we do most of our shopping at the one called Soriana. There is also a debit machine at Soriana where we would replenish our peso supply.

The apartment is perfectly located. We thought that it might be *too* noisy from passing traffic but honestly - it's no noiser than any other part of Playa and with the air conditioning going - we slept easily and comfortably.

One of our fave past-times came to be sitting on the small balcony out front watching the locals move about their lives. We had coffee out there in the morning and tea or a snack there each afternoon. In the late evening, we loved sitting out there enjoying the cooler part of each day.

This apartment is 1/2 the price of the rental that we enjoyed the past four years. The only thing missing is a pool - but we are beach people so it definitely isn't worth paying twice as much for a pool that we don't use. We have already booked back into this little gem for next winter and are seriously considering heading down for a 10 day trip in May.

Thanks, Penny - and Doug!

“Great spot to visit, great spot to live!”

I've visited Playa del Carmen multiple times and have stayed in a few different places, and I must say this is truly a great spot to visit (and a great spot to live if you get the chance!!!). You get to enjoy easy access to downtown Playa...This modern, clean, comfortable apartment is only a few blocks from the beautiful beach and the main drag (La Qunita/5th Ave)! For the adventure seekers out there, book a fishing trip, an ATV tour, or go skydiving! There are also a few great EcoParks (Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Xplor, etc.) and beautiful cenotes in easy bussing/driving distance. For a more relaxing day, just grab your towel, sunscreen, and a bottle of water and walk to the shore. Once you've filled up on sunshine, come home for a shower/siesta before heading out to one of the many AMAZING RESTAURANTS within walking distance of your front door. I highly recommend this rental to anyone looking to get a more personal and authentic taste of life in Playa than you could ever hope for staying in a big hotel. Seriously, life is good when you're staying here!!!
