“Simply one of the Best hotels in Tulum with a feeling of home and caring staff.”
Reviewed 22 August 2011

I just home last week from NVR. I have stayed at this hotel many times now-I have stayed in Tulum a total of 32 visits and I always return to Nueva Vida de Ramiro. This hotel sits on one of the best beaches on the Tulum strip with a total of more than 41 acres-it's a feeling of having your own home on the beach with a wonderful and very caring staff-if you need something just ask. I can say that this is my second home away from home-I have traveled all over the world and stayed at many 5 star hotels-this hotel is special because the staff cares about the guests. There is a wonderful and one of the best Steak House restaurants on the property on the jungle side of the road not to disturb the guests of the hotel-wonderful idea- you can always have a meal sent to your room or the beach.-Casa Banana is the name of the restaurant and don't forget it because you'll love it. Ask for Ligia when you have dinner-beautiful woman and great host. I enjoy the Corazon area of this property-to be honest every room is unique and you should look at the website tulumnv.com to get an idea of which room is best for you. I will always return to this magical place as it changes my life and I come home feeling fresh and new and very happy. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about this hotel as I know a lot being a regular guest. It's simply my home and you should try it. NVR has a wonderful location on the beach with many sea turtles laying eggs during turtle season. It's fun to walk in either direction and explore the food and flavor of Tulum Beach. I'm warning you that this is a special place and you will continue to go back once you have stayed here.
I hope you visit this treasure that is Tulum.

We stayed in room 2 (Horizonte Perdido) and it was just perfect. Ocean view as far as you could see from both the balcony and the bed, large bathroom with a salt water shower (it sounds weird but feels amazing!) , clean, everything worked and looked well taken care of (sometimes things don't work at the beach). The hotel is on the best part of the beach. It's clean and wide and far away from the seaweed patches and the tourist scrum. The have a restaurant across the street, and it is wonderful. The breakfasts are very good, but the dinners were fantastic. When we were there they had a Argentinean style parilla set-up, with a proper asador. Oh, and the manager who helped us check-in was so genuinely nice and very helpful arranging transportation to town and giving us local information. He even brought us some complimentary mojitos about 10 minutes after we checked in to our room :)

I've stayed at a few other places on the beach here, and while they were all nice, this was the most wonderful combination of room, beach, location, and service. We loved this place and are still talking about how wonderful it was, and will definitely return.

We were glad that we only spent the first few nights of our week in Tulum here. It is lovely, and it is wonderful to walk steps from our casa to the amazing ocean. We were in #5, Blanca Duna, which is two completely separate rooms. The ocean side one(A) was nice, but the jungle facing one (B) was dark and much buggier. After 3 nights of no AC and having sand in the sheets, we were glad to move inland to La Selva Mariposa in the jungle. The beach is wonderful, with very few people on it. The hotel provides nice chairs, towels, and even brought us boogie boards to use. The wi-fi in the lobby was a nice touch, and the people there were very helpful. The restaurant had a nice breakfast, and had great food for dinner or lunch, but was pretty pricey.

My sisters and I stayed at #14, La Ola for a week in December 2010. From the moment we arrived, the staff did everything they could to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable - from margaritas as we were unpacking to breakfast on the beach each day. We were drawn because of the location and will be back this year because of the people. And the other feedback is true - Nueva Vida has the best section of the beach in Tulum. People were always walking by and commenting on how lovely it was.

I did an extensive search of hotels in the Tulum area before choosing eco-hotel Nueva Vida for various reasons: affordability, eco-friendliness, cabanas looked inviting (and we had never stayed in a cabana before), beach and scenery looked great, website presentation, restaurants close by, close to the Sian Ka'an preserve (except we didn't get over there; it'll have to be for next time). The name of this hotel was compelling because my husband and I have been seeking a new life (from the rat race). We found out when we arrived that the owners had also sought a new life when they moved there (go there and they'll tell you the story). We had plenty of quality time to contemplate life while there. There's something about being immersed in nature that's rejuvenating.

We spent 5 nights in the cabana "Alma del Mer" (soul of the sea). This review is only about that cabana. The best part of it is was the deck facing the ocean because the view was so breathtaking (see my pics). We had our breakfast delivered to us every morning so we could eat it on the deck. We also enjoyed laying in our hammock on the deck, listening to birds in the morning, the sound of the waves, watching pelicans dive for fish.

Cabana: Rustic in the sense that it has no A/C, no TV, no outlets and a palapa roof (palm leaves). We don't watch much tv anyway, so we didn't miss it. We also don't like a/c and it was cool enough with the ocean breeze and the fan at night. The fan and lights run on solar power. The cabana was roomy and clean with a bedroom and bathroom. The toiletries provided were nice and unique: chocolate shampoo, honey conditioner, rich handmade soap, mouthwash, kleenex. They also provided beach towels and one large bottle of water per person per day. I believe their continental breakfast is included in price of the stay, but you'd have to confirm that. We got a special internet deal that included welcome dinner, breakfast and ride to airport, probably offered due to it being off-season. The breakfast consisted of fresh fruit (we had combinations of papaya, pineapple, banana, kiwi, and melon), toast, butter, jam, banana bread, fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee, cream. It was good and filling. The bed was comfy enough, however, the pillows were too firm for us, but that's a personal preference. We slept well every night.

Location: It's located about 8 miles south of Tulum town and/or the ruins. You can rent bikes for $10/day from the hotel, or catch the collectivo bus which runs every 3 hrs (20 pesos), or take a taxi (80 pesos) -- or hitchhike (something we found out on last day there). We walked on our beach morning and night, swam, laid out. We took one trip to town and ate at a restaurant called Camello. It was very good. We went to Xelha one day. We went to playa maya (beach) twice and ate awesome fish tacos and smoothies at Mateo's restaurant. Nueva Vida has a restaurant associated with the their hotel called Casa Banana which seemed very popular at night. We had two good fish dishes and a mole dish there. NV has wifi available, but it seemed to work only in the reception area, not on the beach (but we didn't care). My husband used the community computer a few times. Mosquitos were bad at night when you are in the jungle area. Bring bug spray and then take it with you where ever you go. We had no problem with mosquitos at the beach in or out of the cabana. The ocean breeze seemed to keep them away. Also saw the staff spraying the flora on the grounds one day. We felt very safe at this location, and everywhere else we went News about cartel activity doesn't apply to most of mexico, and especially not in the Yucatan peninsula. So go to mexico!! They have some of the best beaches and water in the world (I've been to hawaii, tahiti, fla, okinawa, phillippines...). And the mexican people are lovely with a vibrant culture. Mexico and the caribbean are my favorites.

About Tulum town: There's not a lot of shopping on the "strip", but we didn't go to town for that reason. Most of the shops seemed to sell the same stuff. There's also a small shopping area near Mateo's restaurant (about 6 miles north of NV?). We bought most of our souvenirs at the boutique inside the Posada del Sol hotel because they had some unique handcrafted jewelry and ceramics.

Weather: June is supposedly rainy season but it only rained once or twice. I think even if it were to rain every day, it would only maybe happen briefly in the afternoon. It was sunny most of the time and very warm. We love the warm weather and humidity (coming from dry denver), so it was great for us. The ocean was warm and clear. A bit of seaweed here and there, but not so much that it bothered you when swimming. The staff raked it off the beach every morning. We like going to mexico in the summer because there are less people and it's quiet.

Staff: Extremely friendly, courteous and helpful. Anything you want or need, they'll help you get it. They can set up tours, etc.

Room Tip: get a cabana or room facing ocean

This was our 2nd time staying at Nueva Vida. My wife and I own a B & B in MX and know how challenging making a place like this come together. . . and they do it very well. Located on the beach in the jungle is one of the most tranquil places in the world. Lotsa people should not go to Tulum . . they don't understand that the simple things in life are the best. Nueva Vida also offered a welcome dinner at their restaurant "Banana's". . . great arranchera steak on an open grill in the jungle. . . yum and really cool vibe. Juanito gets your beach lounge chairs/umbrellas on the beach and is super helpful along with Roger at the front desk. We even got to release turtles that hatched in front of our bungalow one of the nights. . . amazing! We love this place and will be back.
Thanks again,

Nueva Vida is an amazing place to kick back and relax for a week. It's definitely a splurge, but the incredible staff, oceanview and the beautifully decorated interiors make it worthwhile. We weren't too crazy about the food in the restaurant - it was decent, but we preferred the food from beach-front restaurant attached to the nearby Las Zebras. They can facilitate going on kayaking/birdwatching/diving excursions with a couple of companies.
