“Perfect spot but a gloomy room.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2012

The Nueva Vida is in a glorious spot, and the location of our cabana was a bonus as it was right on the beach, and what a spectacular beach it is. Glorious white sand and a wonderful onshore breeze that acts as natural air conditioning. Even though the cabana's have no AC, the breeze from the sea and the fans in the room made things bearable even in the heat and humidity of July. The restaurant, Casa Banana, is very good - a continental breakfast is included in the room rate, but it is also great for lunches and dinner. You can order drinks and food on the beach and they will bring it over to you. Casa Zebra next door and a short walk along the beach is also good for food and does fabulous cocktails.
The downsides to Nueva Vida - firstly our cabana was really dark inside and the lighting wasn't great so it was very gloomy. We had asked for a ligher cabana when we made our reservation, however the location of our room was so great we decided not to ask to move. The other downside is the price - very expensive for what it is. To be fair I think this is par for the course for Tulum beach, but it didn't feel like great value for money.

The location of NVR is spectacular. The cabins have 24 hour electricity which was important to us. the inclusive continental breakfast was a bonus. There were no big issues while we we there. We arrived with no reservations and there was a beach view available. Unbelievable view,

The inclusive breakfast was a fresh fruit plate s loaf of freshly baked bread juice and a cup of coffee, tasty. The service at Casa Banana was very poor. We saw platters of food being taken to rooms or the breach, but had no clue how to get that service. Hard to get anyone's attention, no smiles.

Room Tip: Pay more for an oceanfront.

NV is a peaceful, family run hotel on the white sandy beaches of Tulum. I usually opt for modern 5 star hotels but there was something that drew me to NV and I'm glad I followed my instincts. No TV, just views of paradise from your balcony and the meditative sound of the ocean. the rooms are simply decorated (I had #26) but it was this 'leave it all behind' environment that I was looking for and I enjoyed three days of relaxed, beachfront living amongst the natural setting of the hotel.

The restaurant Casa Banana was more impressive than I expected. It stands alone as one of the top in town, serving carribean food. Breakfast is a platter of delicious fruit, juice, house baked bread and coffee (espresso on request).

I was lucky enough to participate in releasing the baby turtle's to the ocean. it occurred at 8pm and apparently happens every few days (during the season).

I enjoyed NV so much I cancelled the hectic tourism plans I'd premade and opted to stay longer and just enjoy the beach at NV Tulum. I will be back.

Largely because of my bumbling, this was a statement we heard frequently during our stay at La Nueva Vida de Ramiro. “We know this is last-second, but do you have anything for tonight?” No hay problema. “The key snapped off the key ring and it’s 2 AM and we can’t get in our room.” No hay problema. “We’d really like to stay at the beach longer.” No hay problema; stay all day if you like, just leave the towels when you’re ready to leave.

Naturally, this only begins to characterize the warm and laid-back feeling at La Nueva Vida de Romero. It also at once misses how beautiful and meticulously cared for this hotel truly is; the views are stunning, Ricardo and the entire staff's hospitality is unmatched, the local artisan furniture is beautiful and expertly chosen, and the bath products are great, just to name a few. The “continental breakfast” they provide is an understatement if there ever was one. They present a platter of mango, kiwi, banana, pineapple and star fruit beside freshly (and quite warm) bread with butter and fig jam. Though simple, this was the best breakfast we ate on the entire trip.

When explaining why they moved the beach mattresses, pillows and umbrellas off of the beach, Ricardo mentioned that it was possible to see the tortugas lay eggs at night. I asked him what time approximately this happens, and he said there is no telling, but, for our convenience, he would tell the beach security personnel that patrols the beach to help protect the tortugas to alert us when one appeared. Sure enough, when a tortuga appeared in the middle of the night, Santos, the security guard posted to the beach, awoke us and described the entire process for the tortugas laying eggs. He too was friendly and immensely informative.

The best part, however, is the beach and the view. It is simply unmatched. Tulum is gorgeous, but this (along with other areas of the beach) is simply perfect. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Room Tip: The girlfriend got up-sold on a “honey-mooners” suite on the beach, and we did not regret it.

This beautiful hotel is set in a natural jungle that opens up to the expansive beaches of Tulum. You can walk the beach for miles.
The continental breakfast at Casa Banana was great! We also ate dinner there many times and the food was very good, Casa Bananas staff was also very helpful and friendly. They also delivered meals to our bungalow and drinks and food to the beach as well. Beach beds and umbrellas were set out every morning on the beach and the seaweed was raked from the beach each day.

There is wifi and a computer in the lobby if you need it. The staff at the hotel was very helpful and nice!

We lived in "Alma del mar" which is located directly on the beach. The room is rustic, limited electricity and salt water showers (terrible for your hair but no one else has good hair either). There is no AC in the room but we had two fans. It was a little hot at night and bedlinnens and clothes got moist, but thats what its like to live so close to the ocean, and nothing can beat that experience! If you think privacy is the ultimate luxury then this is your place! Pictures you can see on their website are reflecting what you get.

Tulum is beautiful! We loved it so much we are already planning our next trip there!

My sister and I just got back from a nine day stay at Nueva Vida de Ramiro. It was perfect.

NVR is absolutely beautiful, with well-maintained grounds and beach. We stayed in unit #2, Horizonte Perdido, which is on the second floor right on the beach.

Horizonte Perdido was clean with a ceiling fan over the bed, a floor fan and one outlet. The shower was large with hot water and good water pressure. The view of the ocean from our balcony and room was breathtaking and so relaxing. There was a nice breeze and we slept comfortably with the sliding door opened to the sound of the waves.

Breakfast was provided by Casa Banana, the restaurant across the street from NVR. You have the option of eating breakfast at the restaurant or having it delivered to your room. Casa Banana also provides beach service during the day. We usually got ice cold Bohemia beers and either the chips and guacamole or calamari. Perfect while on the beach.

We both got wonderful massages by Margo on our balcony which I highly recommend. One night we were able to watch a sea turtle dig and lay her eggs on the property right next to NVR. Another night we got to hold baby sea turtles that had just hatched and release them into the water. We had a full moon which was beautiful on the water. NVR also arranged bike rentals for us. Each bike was ten dollars a day. We ate several dinners at Casa Banana. Other nights we ate in town or at other restaurants on the beach.

The staff at NVR were very friendly and helpful. I especially liked the touch that whenever NVR has new arrivals Ricardo, one of the managers, puts a drawing on a chalkboard in the lobby showing the cabana and the first names of the new guests.

We had a wonderful relaxing vacation at Nueva Vida de Ramiro.

It took some time to write this review, almost a year. But the memories haevent faded still about the wonderfull nueva vida. The only reason why I have rated as 4 are the prices in their restaurant which INMHO could be more reasonable, other than that the moment you step on the Nueva Vida property you are going to feel yourself like you are on another planet. Starting from the beach which is incredible, perfect location, accomodation and not to forget the most important element of this resort it's people. These people are wonderfull and just unbelivable, I felt like I am at home, hanging around in the hammocks provided by the hotel and enjoying nothing but the sheer silence of this place. If you want a real vacation where you will actually really relax and pamper yourself then Nueva Vida is the place for you. If you are lookin with a playground property with pools, music, animators, caffes all around you then please look somewhere else.

Room Tip: Zona Corazon might be a good way to go
