“Peaceful Haven”

We had a wonderful stay in the Extant Corazon cabana. Views of the sea from your bed and deck. The cabana is very large and comfortable. You are steps to the beach that has sufficient beds and umbrellas. The continental breakfast at Casa Banana is good and can be sent to your room. There are many types of cabanas from beachfront to in the jungle. I found there to be a great deal of privacy in the cabana. There are many bars and restaurants along the beach and jungle road. You can walk to many or take bike or car. Beautiful beach and friendly, helpful service. I would recommend this location and would stay again. A great place to unwind and enjoy the sea. Kiteboarding is nearby if that is your interest. Long stretches of beach to walk in the area.

Room Tip: We loved the Extant or any of the Corazon rooms. They are at the beach and very large. They have a...

Everything about this place screamed 5 stars. The location, the reviews, the eco-consciousness and the fact that all the cabanas/rooms were individually designed (hence you can't find it on expedia or hotels.com), however, I still left the place not fully satisfied, nor dissapointed. A friend strongly recommended this hotel to us, and we went for it.

Starting off with the good stuff, location, right next to the beach. The setting, sandy roads carved out between dense palms in order to minimize impact to the environment. The people, friendly, helpful and warm.

We stayed in two different rooms (18 and 5B) We did our research before heading out to Tulum and was expecting a bit more considering the price they charged. Rooms were simple, no complaints, however quite run down. Water pressure was low, not a major issue, but the second room we stayed at (5B) had a very strong chlorine smell, we suspect that it was the cleaning detergent being used (not very eco-friendly I assume?) and the shower water was extremly salty, which left me wondering whether if these guys took the eco concept a bit too far. Sheets were torn and showed signs of ageing, we can manage, however some had stains on. Which is just plain sloppiness.

There are plenty more hotels set on the Tulum beach, offering the same location and to some extent, better setting, while digging a shallower hole in your wallet. To sum up, I wasn't dissapointed with the stay, however I would be quite certain that you would be paying less and get more at a different place.

I don't often say this, but I would not recommend this hotel. I have traveled to 35 countries (at the point of writing) and been to a wide range of ecoluxury and "ecoluxury" hotels.

Dear DHXStockholm:

We are truly sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your stay. We always encourage our guests to tell us if there is anything they feel uncomfortable with, it is a shame you did not come to us during your stay since we could have make your stay a more pleasant one. The salinity of the water depends very much on the weather, you mention the water was salty on your second room, all the water of the hotel is the same, but two days during your stay, the ocean was extremely rough, making the mixture of the water a bit more salty. We did look into the sheets, the stains, as written in the explanatory paper in the rooms, is not dirt, is a stain caused by the chit, one of the type of palm trees that you see in our property, the stain looks like little spots of rust. We thank you for your review, we always learn and become better by them, and we are sorry that you wouldn't consider us for a second visit. Warm regards.

Two thumbs up! Friends of ours recommended Nueva Vida, but we couldn't get in at first.... We loved Tulum so much we extended our trip and were able to spend three wonderful nights there (rooms Viento del Mar and Parajo Azul)!

Compared to other places on Tulum's beaches we stayed in or checked out (which were significantly more expensive), Nueva Vida was head and shoulders above the rest. The beach is beyond gorgeous--wide, white sand that seems to stretch endlessly, with turquoise crystalline waters. Nueva Vida sets up beach mattresses, chairs and umbrellas each day and there is beach service for drinks or lunch from the restaurant.

Service was very good, including at the beach, security, reception, restaurant, even the amazing massage. The restaurant is a foodie's delight. The bungalows/rooms are each unique and seem to be of higher quality than most we saw. The strong fan coupled with ocean breeze was perfect for us, even at the end of the season in mid Apr. May be worth checking whether it stays cool enough in the summertime to survive with AC, but I suspect for most of the year it's perfect. The beds in the two rooms were both good (Viento del Mar's mattress was a little more plush perhaps) and it seems all the accommodations are spacious.

The property is toward the far end of the Tulum beach -- I would recommend a car to explore the ruins (Coba and Tulum were both great) and go into the town. Taxis abound, which is another good option.

We can't wait to return!

Dear citymusiclover:

So grateful for your review and that you finally had a chance to stay with us. As you well mention every bungalow has it's own style, and believe or not, a lot of guests choose to stay in more than bungalow at a time to have different experiences, and well, as you could see, it does pay off.
Most of the rooms are very fresh all year long, the truth is that the fans are so strong that even if it is a hot summer day, you will be able to have a good night sleep throughout the year. The only rooms that may be a little hot we are putting an AC unit by the end of July, then the heat really starts, only to be used at night. We will be announcing it when they are installed. You say you can't wait to come back, we say we can't wait to have you. Thank you again for your review.

If you want to change your perspective and relax for bit in a more rustic environment, Nueva Vida is great. There is no A/C, no TV, limited wifi, but there is a beautiful beach steps away and great staff. The hotel bungalows are medium sized, not huge, but much bigger than a traditional hotel room. Nothing super fancy about the inside, but the porch with a hammock and chairs and the great access to the beach is fantastic. They do have wifi, it just isn't strong so you won't be able to download or stream movies.

The beach is steps away from every bungalow and has several "stations" where guests can relax. Each station, as I call it, has an outdoor mattress to lay down, wooden chairs, and a hammock. There is a staff that can bring beers, but they are not frequently stopping by.

At night, very quiet, except one night the hotel down the way had a salsa band for a holiday event that was very loud. Not this hotels problem, but wasn't a huge deal.

No restaurant at hotel, but its location is close to several great restaurants on the jungle road including one right across the street.

I loved the hotel and will stay there again.

Room Tip: Bungalows sometimes have two floors to accommodate two separate guests, but they also have isolated...

Dear jacobsjs:

Thank you very much for your review, we are glad that you had a good time. About that party, yes, our neighbor hotel Zebra, has a Salsa night every Sunday throughout the year, the party goes no longer than 11:00 p.m. Next time you come, you can stay at the farther end of the hotel, called Zona Corazon, which is the most isolated part, kids are not allowed and you can barely hear the music on Sundays or the occasional wedding they might have. Thank you for choosing us, by now you should have received you member code for your discount n your next stay with us. Hugs

My wife and I recently stayed here and are so glad we made the decision to do so. Our check in was easy and the complimentary fruit juice and nuts were nice. The proximity to the beach is perfect and what you pay for. I will never forget the white sand and crystal waters of Tulum. The suite "suspiro' that we stayed in was simple but very roomy. The bed itself was a little on the hard side not that it bothered me but my wife didn't enjoy it as much. The pillows definitely need upgrading! The balcony with the table and chairs and hammock to relax were wonderful also capped off by the lovely breakfast we ate there each morning. Perfect start to the day. The staff were friendly and always on hand to answer any questions we had. One of the only downfalls was the lack of service whilst on the beach. I have no issue in getting up and ordering beers/lunch however seen as the hotel has no beach bar and the lack of service was all but non existent, We just walked down the beach a little and got what we needed there. This and the pillows is my only reason for not giving this place a 5 star review.
The casa banana is a great restaurant also. Steak was amazing!

Dear StephenHammo:

Thank you for your review, we always take under consideration what our guest have to sya and we just upgraded all our pillows for softer ones. We are sorry to hear though that the service at the beach was not of your liking and we have told Casa Banana about it, fortunately they have improved it and we are keeping a closer eye on the waiters to cover all the beach. We hope to have you back again soon. Next time, if you want, we recycle coolers that guests bring and leave behind, just ask for them at front desk, and we will hook you up. There is a little store down the road, about 5 minute walk, where you can buy ice and beers and many other things, and a lot of guests have done so to keep fresh beers day round. Another possibility is to book rooms 27 or 28, which is the building right beside the one you stayed in, they both have mini fridges. Cheers!!

I just returned from 4 nights at Nueva Vida Ramiro. The setting is amazing and is definitely what you are paying for, especially with the beach front bungalows. The room itself was nice. Simply decorated but very roomy, with a porch and hammock for enjoying the gorgeous sunrises. The breeze coming in was amazing, and even a bit too much on a couple of nights, to where we closed the sliding doors. No mosquitos in the beach front bungalow with that breeze, but we definitely saw them once you got into the interior of the property and across the road at the restaurant. The hotel has baskets of bug spray and sunblock in the lobby for everyone to use, which we did.

The included continental breakfast consisted of a fresh baked roll, 2 small slices of a sweet bread (kind of a banana bread type loaf), some jam and butter, small bowl of fresh fruit, glass of juice and coffee. Service was a bit 'island time' if you know what I mean, and although the sign above the bar said kitchen hours for breakfast started at 7, the restaurant doesn't really open til after 7:30 - 7:45. Not a huge deal unless you've been up since 6am and would like a good cup of coffee ;) For those staying multiple days, it would be nice to have a little variety in the continental breakfast when it comes to the bread and pastries, but overall, it was a nice start to the day.

The beach in front of the hotel is amazing and the hotel lays out beach mattresses and umbrellas. Sometimes there weren't enough mattresses for everyone who wanted one, but a quick request would remedy that.

The only small suggestion I have for the owners is that the restaurant service (especially on the beach) could feel a bit more warm and attentive. We ended up opting for the many amazing restaurants within a few minutes walk (La Zebra next door has a more lively beach front restaurant scene without being overcrowded, and the food and setting at Simple was amazing).

Food and drinks on the beach side part of tulum are expensive, like NYC expensive ($12 cocktails for example) so definitely stock up on snacks and water and beer at the grocery store on your way into town. You won't really have any snacking options once in the 'hotel zone' aside from restaurants.

Overall, NVR is a beautiful property that is private without being totally secluded. I'd probably return again, although, I'd like to see what level of service and amenities one might get at other hotels in that $270 a night range (seems kind of high but maybe that is just the price to pay to stay right on the beach).

Room Tip: beach front rooms definitely have an amazing breeze advantage. Once you turn inland on the grounds...

No complaints about this place! Yummy free breakfast. Excellent beach front with comfy, shaded beds and hammocks. Our room was airy, comfortable, quiet and had a beautiful view. The staff was really friendly and helpful. And the price was totally reasonable. I'll definitely be back!
