“Long research paid off...”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

I am another one of those people that probably research WAY too much...alas, I came upon all of the reviews for Nueva after having booked another location in Tulum. I cancelled that reservation and booked the Pasion Marina cabana #7 for May 5-9. Needless to say I am very happy I made the change. We were wonderfully greeted and shown to our cabana which had a great view of the ocean and was nestled in palm trees that gave it a sense of privacy without impeding the views. The staff was extraordinary. Muriella was amazing and so passionate about making our stay memorable, coming up with an excursion idea when another had fallen through. She set us up with an amazing driver, Martine, who took just the two of us snorkeling in the empty Sac Actun Cenotes, teaching us about the area and sharing his passion that he shared with his friends exploring newly found cenotes. We met a wonderful woman who owned the little convenience store just down the road, good friends with Muriella, who greeted us every day with a smile and, if we were lucky, bags of ice, giving us big hugs when we departed. Roger and Roberto(hoping I got his name correct) went above and beyond with their service and great memories continued when we were set up with Tiberio, another driver who is good friends with Roberto, who took us to Coba and eventually up to Puerto Juarez, sharing so much of his life with us and joining us for conchanita YUM!!!!) at a roadside stand coming back from Coba (at his recommendation).

The grounds of Nueva Vida are absolute heaven as you walk up the paths to your cabana, watching the little sand crabs scurry to safety as you make your way through the lush grounds. We did not see into any of the other cabanas but it would be hard to choose a bad one on the beach. The rooms were amply sized and the shower, though salty-to be expected in this eco friendly zone, was always hot for as long as you needed. As far as the no a/c...I am not sure how hot it ends up getting but the breeze was amazing...keep the doors open at your own risk...We had zero problems with insects at all and never felt in danger, especially with the ever present security on site.

The restaurant across the street was great for breakfast and the dinner we had was one of our best. La Zebra is right next door for beachfront dining, definitely try the hamburger and the short ribs were amazing!!

I would absolutely recommend NVR for those looking for striking beaches, genuine staff, and an overall beautiful vacation. We could definitely see this as a place to visit every year as there was so much more we wanted to do but didn't in the time we had. We even received small wooden turtles as we checked out which will always bring a smile to our faces and a present reminder of this experience.

(As a side note, I know some people inquire as to the "gay friendliness" of Tulum. I can say that as a gay couple we NEVER felt anything but comfortable at NVR, or anywhere for that matter, the entire stay. We were never looked down upon or treated with anything but respect by the Tulum community. I would recommend this to anyone with reservations. Do not expect bass thumping night life if that is your thing...head to Cancun for that.)

second stay, last week.
Stayed in #11 right on the water. Liked it a lot. The only problen we had was there is no way to contain the shower water,so it runs onto the bathroom floor, which requires you to do some mopping up with your towels. Bed not that great, but .location makes it worthwhile.
The swinging beds are a nice addition since our last stay. Would love to see more of them .

Dear Islandtime111:

It was great to have you back and yes, everyone loves the hanging beds. We are looking into the problem of the shower, we will be making some remodeling during low season and already wrote your observation down to fix it, this is why it is so important to get feedback from our guests.
We hope to have you back in the near future, as I always say, feel free to contact us for recommendations on any other rooms you might want to try and new offers.
Warm regards

When we decided to visit Tulum I started my planning/research. I plan for months and compare options to the point of a spreadsheet comparing price and amenities. It's a little OCD but we are always happy with our vacations and Nueva Vida was no exception.

The beach is breathtaking...like white sugar between ur toes. The color of the ocean is beautiful and you can walk out pretty far with the water just above your waist. We walked up and down the entire stretch of beach and NVR has one of the best stretches of property.

NVR sets out the beach beds, chairs, umbrellas each morning. One day we visited the Tulum ruins (by bike that we rented from the hotel for 150 pesos each) when we returned there were no beds. I asked the front desk and they set up another one for us right away.

Everything at this hotel was too notch service from the welcome
Drink the moment we arrived to helping us to our car when we left. Muriella even came up to the car and tapped on the window to give us hugs goodbye before we left. Muriella, Eric, and Jorge went above and beyond at every opportunity. NVR even arranged massages for us on our patio one morning.

We felt safe with NVR lifeguard and security. There are not many hotels with security and I didn't see any other lifeguards.

The beach service for us was great. Efrin from Casa Banana came to check on everyone at the beach around 11am each day. He was fast and friendly. Even trying to teach my husband a little Spanish and Mayan. I would suggest tipping him we'll to insure beach service throughout your stay.

We stayed in Ola (#14) three nights and Passion (#28) one night. We got a taste of both the authentic beach bungalow and the more modern apartment style room. Really both were great it's just aster of personal preference.

We loved everything about our stay and can't wait to return thank you Nueva Vida!!! ❤️

We had a wonderful stay in the Extant Corazon cabana. Views of the sea from your bed and deck. The cabana is very large and comfortable. You are steps to the beach that has sufficient beds and umbrellas. The continental breakfast at Casa Banana is good and can be sent to your room. There are many types of cabanas from beachfront to in the jungle. I found there to be a great deal of privacy in the cabana. There are many bars and restaurants along the beach and jungle road. You can walk to many or take bike or car. Beautiful beach and friendly, helpful service. I would recommend this location and would stay again. A great place to unwind and enjoy the sea. Kiteboarding is nearby if that is your interest. Long stretches of beach to walk in the area.

Room Tip: We loved the Extant or any of the Corazon rooms. They are at the beach and very large. They have a...

Everything about this place screamed 5 stars. The location, the reviews, the eco-consciousness and the fact that all the cabanas/rooms were individually designed (hence you can't find it on expedia or hotels.com), however, I still left the place not fully satisfied, nor dissapointed. A friend strongly recommended this hotel to us, and we went for it.

Starting off with the good stuff, location, right next to the beach. The setting, sandy roads carved out between dense palms in order to minimize impact to the environment. The people, friendly, helpful and warm.

We stayed in two different rooms (18 and 5B) We did our research before heading out to Tulum and was expecting a bit more considering the price they charged. Rooms were simple, no complaints, however quite run down. Water pressure was low, not a major issue, but the second room we stayed at (5B) had a very strong chlorine smell, we suspect that it was the cleaning detergent being used (not very eco-friendly I assume?) and the shower water was extremly salty, which left me wondering whether if these guys took the eco concept a bit too far. Sheets were torn and showed signs of ageing, we can manage, however some had stains on. Which is just plain sloppiness.

There are plenty more hotels set on the Tulum beach, offering the same location and to some extent, better setting, while digging a shallower hole in your wallet. To sum up, I wasn't dissapointed with the stay, however I would be quite certain that you would be paying less and get more at a different place.

I don't often say this, but I would not recommend this hotel. I have traveled to 35 countries (at the point of writing) and been to a wide range of ecoluxury and "ecoluxury" hotels.

Dear DHXStockholm:

We are truly sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your stay. We always encourage our guests to tell us if there is anything they feel uncomfortable with, it is a shame you did not come to us during your stay since we could have make your stay a more pleasant one. The salinity of the water depends very much on the weather, you mention the water was salty on your second room, all the water of the hotel is the same, but two days during your stay, the ocean was extremely rough, making the mixture of the water a bit more salty. We did look into the sheets, the stains, as written in the explanatory paper in the rooms, is not dirt, is a stain caused by the chit, one of the type of palm trees that you see in our property, the stain looks like little spots of rust. We thank you for your review, we always learn and become better by them, and we are sorry that you wouldn't consider us for a second visit. Warm regards.

Two thumbs up! Friends of ours recommended Nueva Vida, but we couldn't get in at first.... We loved Tulum so much we extended our trip and were able to spend three wonderful nights there (rooms Viento del Mar and Parajo Azul)!

Compared to other places on Tulum's beaches we stayed in or checked out (which were significantly more expensive), Nueva Vida was head and shoulders above the rest. The beach is beyond gorgeous--wide, white sand that seems to stretch endlessly, with turquoise crystalline waters. Nueva Vida sets up beach mattresses, chairs and umbrellas each day and there is beach service for drinks or lunch from the restaurant.

Service was very good, including at the beach, security, reception, restaurant, even the amazing massage. The restaurant is a foodie's delight. The bungalows/rooms are each unique and seem to be of higher quality than most we saw. The strong fan coupled with ocean breeze was perfect for us, even at the end of the season in mid Apr. May be worth checking whether it stays cool enough in the summertime to survive with AC, but I suspect for most of the year it's perfect. The beds in the two rooms were both good (Viento del Mar's mattress was a little more plush perhaps) and it seems all the accommodations are spacious.

The property is toward the far end of the Tulum beach -- I would recommend a car to explore the ruins (Coba and Tulum were both great) and go into the town. Taxis abound, which is another good option.

We can't wait to return!

Dear citymusiclover:

So grateful for your review and that you finally had a chance to stay with us. As you well mention every bungalow has it's own style, and believe or not, a lot of guests choose to stay in more than bungalow at a time to have different experiences, and well, as you could see, it does pay off.
Most of the rooms are very fresh all year long, the truth is that the fans are so strong that even if it is a hot summer day, you will be able to have a good night sleep throughout the year. The only rooms that may be a little hot we are putting an AC unit by the end of July, then the heat really starts, only to be used at night. We will be announcing it when they are installed. You say you can't wait to come back, we say we can't wait to have you. Thank you again for your review.

If you want to change your perspective and relax for bit in a more rustic environment, Nueva Vida is great. There is no A/C, no TV, limited wifi, but there is a beautiful beach steps away and great staff. The hotel bungalows are medium sized, not huge, but much bigger than a traditional hotel room. Nothing super fancy about the inside, but the porch with a hammock and chairs and the great access to the beach is fantastic. They do have wifi, it just isn't strong so you won't be able to download or stream movies.

The beach is steps away from every bungalow and has several "stations" where guests can relax. Each station, as I call it, has an outdoor mattress to lay down, wooden chairs, and a hammock. There is a staff that can bring beers, but they are not frequently stopping by.

At night, very quiet, except one night the hotel down the way had a salsa band for a holiday event that was very loud. Not this hotels problem, but wasn't a huge deal.

No restaurant at hotel, but its location is close to several great restaurants on the jungle road including one right across the street.

I loved the hotel and will stay there again.

Room Tip: Bungalows sometimes have two floors to accommodate two separate guests, but they also have isolated...

Thank you very much for your review, we are glad that you had a good time. About that party, yes, our neighbor hotel Zebra, has a Salsa night every Sunday throughout the year, the party goes no longer than 11:00 p.m. Next time you come, you can stay at the farther end of the hotel, called Zona Corazon, which is the most isolated part, kids are not allowed and you can barely hear the music on Sundays or the occasional wedding they might have. Thank you for choosing us, by now you should have received you member code for your discount n your next stay with us. Hugs
