We found the idea of a rustic cabana on the beach very charming, but reality came crashing down. When we arrived, there were no cabanas with private shower left, but the shared toilets and showers were decent. Our cabana was also not directly on the beachside, but two doors down, so at least you could still hear the waves. The cabin was very basic, which in itself would not have been a problem. The bed had a net and was hanging from the ceiling. This unfortunately made my husband feel nautious, but we managed to wedge it with a chair so that it didn't move during the night. However, the bed linen smelled and looked like it hadn't been changed since the 70s. Worst of all though was that there was absolutely no air in the room. The night was actually extremely windy outside, but because there were no windows, we were suffocating inside. We actually slept part of the night on beach chairs, then had to go in when it started raining. We ended leaving the door wide open to at least get some air circulation, although this did not seem to help much. Although definitely one of the cheaper options in Tulum, I would not recommend this experience at all.
