“Best Food on the Penninsula”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 December 2013

Wow! I'm from New Orleans and I am usually underwhelmed by most restaurants anywhere in the world. We went to Tabano and the dishes were phenomenal. The layers of flavor in any one dish and combinations of taste, texture simply floored us. This is Mexican high cuisine that is difficult to find anywhere in Mexico much less anywhere on the Peninsula. We have tried 9 entrees at Tabano and each time left the restaurant more amazed than before. Their mole is fantastic but so are the stuffed jalapeños and everything else we tried. Tabano also has a great wine list- another aspect we appreciated. The ambiance is relaxed but so is every other place on the beach road. You can see the women cooking and how much they enjoy it. In fact, all of the employees appear genuinely happy to be there. Can't wait to go back!

“heavenly sweet stuffed-pepper with creamy cheese and shrimps”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2013

The food is made with love of a mother ( you can see them work and laugh, a happy kitchen for sure ) delicious creative food with great tunes in the background ( soundcloud I'm sure ).
We went back to have the sopa de tortia 3 times, 2 times for the chocolate cheesecake. But the best meal I had was the sweet stuffed-pepper with creamy cheese and shrimps... not from this world.

“Best ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 November 2013

El Tabano gave us a very special experience for my son's Rehearsal Dinner. Every dish was great! The cheesecake was the best I ever had. Israel, the bartender, wowed us all with his creations. Some of the guests wanted to kidnap him and bring him home to market his drinks in the USA. We couldn't be more grateful to the management for a wonderful meal.

“Nothing at all special”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 November 2013

If you find yourself on the road between Tulum and Boca Paila, and can't wait a few more kilometers to eat something, maybe, just maybe you should stop at El Tabano. Their ceviche is OK.

But this is definitely not a destination spot. Their entrees lacked flavor and were executed poorly. We ordered a prawn dish and the costillas. The prawns were under-salted and overcooked, and the ribs were both hard to chew and soggy.

And if you did read all the raving reviews and simply must check it out, at least bring bug repellent and wear pants. The mosquitoes here are ferocious!
