We had a magical week in Casa Dunia! Beautiful house, wonderful hosts, perfect beach, great meals and gorgeous grounds. The property is in the most spectacular spot in Tulum far away from the crowds but close enough to walk to dinner at local restaurants or shops if you want. The house itself is tastefully decorated and peaceful and was spacious enough for our large family gathering (7 adults and two 11-year olds). Each room has its own ensuite bathroom making it feel like each couple has their own space to relax but the huge couches and table are perfect for when everyone wants to be together. We had delicious breakfasts waiting for us each morning and we opted for chef-prepared dinners on all but two nights because the meals were delicious. The care takers cleaned our rooms and switched out linens while we relaxed on the beach or went into town. The beach is just steps away from the house and was outstanding. Our kids spent most of all day in the waves boogie boarding or body surfing. The waves were just big enough to be fun, but never dangerous. The water was a stunning shade of turquoise. The pool was nice too, but we spent most of the time in the ocean. The gentle breezes through screened windows allowed us to hear the waves at all times without needing air conditioning. Stefan and Hui were so helpful when making the reservations, shopping for food to have on our arrival and answering any questions we had once we arrived. It was one of the best vacations we have ever had and no one wanted to leave! We hope to visit again!
I visit Tulum every other year and Only stay at Rancho San Eric.
I've stayed at various villas there and every one of them is unique and right on the beach.
The stretch of beach on which their villas perch is quiet, pristine and free of crowds and drama.
Their deck chairs on the beach are covered (cabana) and I've spent hours just reading and relaxing on the beach.
During turtle birthing season, you can hang out right on the deck chairs while you witness turtles giving birth (which my neighbors did one night). I've personally witnessed this ritual once when I was there in the middle of the Season.
Each spacious villa comes with a modern kitchen, modern bathroom, ceiling fan, hammocks and even boogie boards.
Although the property does not have a restaurant, the villas are located an easy 5-8 min walk along the beach to restaurants at Be Tulum (or 15 min away to La Zebra and Real Coconut).
It's also a 8-10 min walk to Yaan Wellness Center where we took meditation and yoga classes.
The most recent renovations Rancho San Eric made included a shared pool, perfect for an evening dip.
Service is always spot on, from making reservations with Hui, to making sure their guests are happy and relaxed during their stay. The housekeeping/ cleaning and security crew is friendly, trustworthy and efficient.
I stayed there prior to this trip and it's since been renovated and even more modern. It's on the upper floor of the villa and has a great breeze and awesome view of the ocean.
Perfect for 1-2 people, the surprisingly spacious studio is modern, airy and 30 second walk from the beach. I enjoyed it tremendously when I visited alone.
The piece de resistance of Rancho San Eric features 5 bedrooms and sleeps 10-12.
We most recently stayed there on my last trip and it was truly unforgettable.
The humongous villa features a full working kitchen, nepresso coffee maker, indoor dining table for 10-12, outdoor dining area for 12+ right on the beach, overlooking the ocean, under a canopy of string lights. We had breakfast outdoors every single morning and it could not have been more perfect.
The stunning sitting area fronting the ocean is enclosed by sliding glass doors that lead right out to the outdoor dining area and we spent hours lounging around, chit chatting the night away.
The gorgeous main door on the jungle side leads right to the shared pool and even has dining for 4 people.
I also spent many hours relaxing in the hanging rattan chairs right in the living room.
This villa comes with AC, but honestly, we didn't have to use it at all our entire stay. Our rooms were breezy and the ceiling fans worked their magic.
I highly recommend staying at any of the villas at Rancho San Eric- they're reasonably priced, very private and quiet, and service was top notch. I look forward to my next visit to Tulum!
