“DREAM WEDDING IN TULUM 11-2013”
Reviewed 16 March 2014

Now that we have been back home in Seattle for several months, we keep thinking back to our wonderful stay and beach wedding at El Pez. We started researching locations ten months before our November target date. We wanted a place on the beach that was quiet and relaxing. A location that was out of the hustle and bustle of the large cities and towns of the Caribbean side of Mexico. After reading many reviews and much research on destination weddings, we landed on El Pez. Once we made our reservations and let the staff know we were planning our wedding, the staff was very helpful in getting the ball rolling with the plans for the upcoming event. Planning a wedding totally by email was a little unnerving for us, but the wedding planner Lina was very helpful, knowledgeable and patient with us and all of our questions and worriers. . We spent ten months communicating with Lina via email planning the wedding. She was very organized, responsive and made sure everything came together as planned. There was only one mishap envolving the recorded music. Mateo worked quickly to help resolve the problem.
Once we arrived, our apprehensions of having a wedding so far from home faded away. Walking into the front entrance of the large common area and looking out to the water made us both think “this will work!” What really makes this place great is the staff. They are so friendly and helpful. From the minute you arrive to the last goodbyes, you feel you have stayed with family. Gabby and Mateo were so wonderful. Helping with all of the large and little requests, plus keeping us in the loop with Lina. The onsite restaurant served wonderful fresh, local foods. The rooms were clean and comfortable. This magical seitting on Turtle cove was more that we hoped. The whole wedding party is still talking about it and we cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: If you want privacy, book an upper level room. If you do not mind stairs.

If you're looking for a tranquil Mexican holiday Tulum is the place to go. Warm, azure waters, soft, silky sand, delicious food and friendly people, Tulum has it all. And if you're going to Tulum, El Pez is the place to stay. Overlooking the beautiful Turtle Cove in the middle of the main beach area, El Pez did not disappoint. We booked a top-floor suite in one of the three luxury cabanas. Spacious, comfortable and well maintained, the suite featured a large balcony with a stunning view of the Caribbean. From there we would watch the fishermen arriving early in the morning, the pelicans that made the cove their home, the family picnics, wedding photo shoots and the beautiful sunrises. It was always entertaining. We would leave the balcony doors open at night and fall asleep to the sound of the surf while being caressed by the warm breeze.

Tulum features an eclectic array of great restaurants along the beach road. We enjoyed many delicious meals but none were as delicious as our meals at Altamar, the restaurant at El Pez. The menu featured fresh local ingredients with an Asian twist and, in our opinion, the best flan in Mexico! With exquisitely prepared food and attentive service, Altamar was indeed a very fine dining experience.

As mentioned in many of the previous reviews, Turtle Cove is beautiful but it does not have the best beach for swimming. However, El Pez's sister properties – La Zebra and Mezzanine – both have stunning beaches and guests of El Pez are welcome to use the lounge chairs and facilities during their stay. We enjoyed our daily outings but always looked forward to returning to our tranquil home at El Pez. The warmth and friendliness of the staff made us feel like one of the family, and after ten days we were sad to say goodbye. But at El Pez, it's never "adios", just "hasta pronto amigos"!

Room Tip: Cabana #8 is spacious and well maintained. It offers a stunning view of Turtle Cove and the Caribbea...

What a fabulous vacation we had at El Pez. The service was amazing, especially Gabi. She went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay. The breakfast included was simple, but delicious, and the coffee delivery to the room in the morning was an especially nice touch. The dinners we had at El Pez were very delicious and creative. Our sea front room was fabulous as well. I cannot say enough nice things about our stay. For swimming we walked 5 minutes down the beach to what must be one of the most perfect beach settings I've been too. Wide beach, gentle waves, sandy bottom, and no crowds. Was perfect. Am actually planning a return trip for later this year.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at El Pez. Not only was it beautiful there, but the restaurant was fabulous. The chef was from Chile and his menu was fantastic. If you're in Tulum definitely don't miss out on this place! It was wonderful.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms face the ocean, which was an incredible view. Be sure to ask about these rooms whe...

I love the warmth and hospitality of El Pez. It's a wonderful place to relax and unwind, even if I was working. The moment my husband and I arrived we felt welcomed and cared for through our entire stay.

Hotel Room:
We stayed in both the King ocean front room and the upper level cabana. The rooms are tasteful decorated with amazing ocean views. I preferred the king room, since the upper cabana was a bit buggy for me.

Pros:
The hotel staff was flawless and manager Mateo was wonderful.
Comfortable beds
Good food
Great drinks
Wonderful views
Very Clean
Safe

Cons:
Cabana room: The thatched room let bugs in and the mosquito need had a whole in it.

Can't wait to go back!
