“Great Boutique Hotel!!”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

We had a wonderful 4 nights at El Pez last week. The staff was extremely accomadating and friendly. They went out of their way to make sure that we had a comfortable stay.
On our first night, due to some unexpected maintenance in the kitchen, we were upgraded to another room because our room shared a wall with the kitchen. Even though this was a bit annoying, the staff at night made sure to make up for it by placing us in the private beach house.

Lina was so friendly and even helped us find a photographer for our engagement photo shoot. She also went out of her way to call different people for tours we were interested in. You definitely feel as if you are staying amongst friends at this hotel.

The rooms do not have AC, but the strong ocean breeze is enough to keep you cool at night. All the rooms have screens on the doors & windows and since the breeze is so strong, there are barely any mosquitoes.

The daily breakfast includes a big portion of yogurt with local fruit, toast and fresh juice. We had to pay extra for egg dishes, but the coffee and ocean view is great!

Stay at El Pez if you want are looking for homey, quiet, relaxing vacation!!!

Stayed at El Pez for. 5 nights then extended for another 3 nights. We couldn't get enough of the place. The staff were amazing, the accommodation was impeccable and the view to die for. We couldn't fault the place at all. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting tulum. Wish we could have stayed longer. It is right on the beach where turtles nest. You can swim out front although it is a bit rocky. Alternatively go down the street to their sister hotel La Zebra and swim there for clear crystal clear water with sandy bottom. Arthur and Lina (and all the staff) were fantastic as was the owner Nick. Thanks for a great stay and see you all very soon . Big hug Tony

My wife, ten year old daughter and I spent two wonderful nights at El Pez last week. The staff (Edouardo, Lina, and Orfe in particular) were gracious, friendly and helpful in every way. The room itself (Luxury Cabana, $232/night on special) is simple and spare but clean and well designed - the in room safe is a nice touch. Despite the August heat we were completely comfortable sleeping with the ceiling fans in one of the bottom units which actually get less of a night breeze than the upper units. Mosquitos were no issue as the room comes with a screen door allowing for the breeze without the bugs which to me is far preferable to the mosquito netting used by many of the area hotels. The cove on which El Pez is situated has a cloistered, cozy feel and the hotel is built in perfect scale to its setting. Do not believe any reviews that tell you it is unswimmable - while water shoes would help, without them you simply have to take a few moments picking your way among the rocks out to where the water is deep enough to swim. This took no more than three minutes and was easily managed by all, including our ten year old. The continental breakfast was perfect - fresh fruit, yogurt, wonderful breads and the morning coffee delivered directly and discreetly to your room at 6:30am is a sweet touch. Frankly, the only negative is that we’re back in the states left only to write about it. Sigh...

We traveled to Tulum for wedding. Mexico is not our preffered destination; we are spoiled with opportunities to travel to Bali, Fiji, Maldives, and others. Expectations were low. And what a pleasant and unexpected surprise! Place is great. Staff is fantastic! Marianna, Lina, Eduardo were accommodating, helpful, and genuinely nice! Marco and other restaurant staff was fantastic! We wanted nice lazy relaxing holiday and this is exactly what we got! Place is quite, small. Beach is not busy at all; always plenty of seats. Sea at Trutle Cove is not sandy, rather rocky. However short 3 minutes walk to the next resort and fantastic sandy beach is to your disposal. Restaurant is great; shrimp boil and ceviche is a must! Do not miss brunch at the restaurant on Sunday. Resort is getting air conditions this months; and in our opinion that was the only missing part. All resort road is very cute with great restaurants such as Mateo's and La Zebra (sister hotel of El Pez). If you are, looking quite retreat away fm crazy Cancun and Playa Del Carmen tourist crowds, look no further. We will recommend to all our friends.

Room Tip: If you want more sea breeze, ask for the top level room. Cabins 11 and 12 are last one and are next...

I completely loved this gem of a place, and agree with all the other positive reviews 100%. I decided to start my trip off by indulging myself for a few days here, and was not disappointed at all. The staff were fantastic: From the moment I walked in; everyone I came in contact with was great;

Orfe, Jose, Eduardo, Lina, Marco Antonio...and everyone. They all were all extremely warm, kind, patient and helpful. And they all certainly helped to make my stay much better, including a lot of personal help as far as planning the rest of my trip beyond Tulum and just great service in general. I definitely felt myself being taken care of in a very easygoing way, and was able to relax very quickly and start my trip.

The bartenders were also excellent and knew their drinks very well. I enjoyed a perfect Margarita from upon arrival, and was introduced by the night bartender to some truly fantastic artisanal Mezcal. Thanks guys!

Unfortunately I never tried the food other than the continental breakfast, which was perfect:

Yogurt, with Granola, and fresh fruit, juice, coffee/tea, home baked breads...served by a friendly staff with a view that is sublime in the warmly decorated large main building, under a majestic Palapa style roof.

However despite not having had lunch or dinner there, I must say everything looked delicious...so definitely next time.

As for the room itself, I could not have been happier. I went in the "low" season, so it was affordable for me.

I really do enjoy remembering all the details, which is always the mark of an excellent establishment to me, and what one hopes for on a vacation. I don't usually write reviews, but I walked away from there with such a good feeling that I'm glad to do so in this case.

If I get the chance I would be glad to stay there again.

We arrived at el pez and the moment we arrived we felt right at home. Our luggage was taken to our cabana as we were offered a drink. During our stay, we felt so welcome and the service was excellent, the rooms were clean, large bed and beautiful view over Turtle Cove. Although there were a lot of rocks in the water the staff were helpful in pointing out beautiful swimming beaches across tulum and also another sandy beach within a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Each morning we enjoyed the tea and coffee which was delivered to our room, and then the continental breakfast which we ate in the restaurant looking out over the beach served by the very attentive Marco antonio. Oh, and not to mention the freshly squeezed orange juice!
Days that we had a bit too much sun, José would kindly pluck us some fresh aloe vera and present it to us on a plate of ice! Liena on the front desk was so helpful and attentive with beaches to see, scooter hire, tours and stunning cenotes to visit. Along with orfe, Edwardo and José front of house made us so welcome! And not to forget Wilbert and the bar staff who presented us delicious 2 for 1 mojitos each evening! Although we ate out most nights we did have dinner on our last night in the restaurant and they did not disappoint!! The food was incredibly tasty and so fresh... You must try the cerviche here!!!
Another thing which was so nice was each day coming back from the beach and house keeping have come through and you have a freshly made bed, new towels, new beach towels and 2 large bottles of complimentary water! Plus 2 water bottles in bathroom by the sink for brushing your teeth. Very efficient and thorough house keeping.
We have come away from our first trip to tulum so happy and relaxed after our stay in el pez. The resort is so clean, staff go above and beyond expectations of service, excellent free WiFi, and if you've done as much shopping in america as we did before arriving you will be glad to have somebody carry your 25kg bags to your room and upon checkout to your mode of transport outside reception! Thank you again el pez, tulum! We loved our stay and wish we could have another week!!!

What a special place! The staff is fantastic! Everyone.....is helpful, friendly and attentive. The location is wonderful. Every meal was fresh and delicious. Our cabana was perfect for our family of three. Each morning a basket with fresh coffee and juice is delivered to your door... Sitting on your porch watching the sunrise is heavenly, did I mention how close the surf is to your door....could not be any closer. The whole experience was great. If you enjoy hospitality, natural beauty, small intimate hotels and serene simplicity this is the place to visit. I highly recommend El Pez. We can not wait to return to this Mexican gem in Tulum.
