Owner description: Tulum (Spanish pronunciation: [tu'lum], Yucatec: Tulu'um) is the site of a Pre-Columbian Maya walled city serving as a major port for Coba.[1] The ruins are situated on 12-meter (39 ft) tall cliffs, along the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.[1] Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya; it was at its height between the 13th and 15th centuries and managed to survive about 70 years after the Spanish began occupying Mexico. Old World diseases brought by the Spanish settlers appear to have resulted in very high fatalities, disrupting the society and eventually causing the city to be abandoned.[citation needed] One of the best-preserved coastal Maya sites, Tulum is today a popular site for tourists.[1]

My wife and I visited Tulum with a group of friends and family. We arrived in the mid-afternoon and took our time walking around the ruins. The landscape and temples are amazing. Everything is very scenic and worth the hot, humid weather. Make sure you bring plenty of cold water and make use of the shade to avoid feeling sick.

The benefit of going later in the day is you will miss the large groups of people that go first thing in the morning. You could visit first thing in the morning to try and beat the heat, or visit later in the day to avoid the crowds. It just depends on what you would like to avoid.

Thank Alex M

Great place to visit when u go with family, the price of $70 pesos is very affordable. Lots of great places to take good pictures and the only ruins steps away from the beach.

Tulum's Mayan ruins are definitely worth a visit. Situated right on the beach, they are the perfect place to learn some Mayan culture and history, and then head straight to the beach after. We recommend Playa Pescadores!

I went on a guided tour. The place is fantastic and the history interesting.
The view of the ruins and the sea are great and if you have the opportinity to go dont think twice to visit.
Bring sunscreen and water as there is not much shadow and it can be very sunny and hot.
I really enjoyed this visit.
